Love this bike. I'm a big human (6'6", 240lb w/gear) and the XL is perfect for me. I rode my buddies XXL stumpjumper and wasn't blown away by the extra top tube length or it's climbing ability. The enduro is basically a cross country bike with tons of travel and a slack head tube angle. It climbs very well (just as well as the stumpy IMHO) and really flies on the descents. I have a short enve stem, 810mm wide bars and that upgrade improved hard/fast cornering dramatically. I also have 29 x 2.6 tires (schwalbe nobby nics) and will never go back to the stock 2.3s or even to the 2.5 maxxis that I ran for a while. Traction + float = happy biker. At every price point (comp, s-works, etc) the enduro is a good buy. I have the S-works and got a bike with carbon wheels, cranks, frame and handlebar for
just bought the comp 29er today. it's really great doesn't feel like a big bike and you can climb! made me push harder not work harder, had a lot of fun first ride today
strongly considering this for my next bike! either this or S-works Enduro 29er frame only and doing a custom build, also considering getting this bike and swapping parts out, Shimano drivetrain and brakes... hope or I9 wheels, fox or ohlins suspension. all comes down to if I want carbon or alloy frame... and what makes more sense money wise
Trevor Iverson one of the best bike out here, if you can afford it go for it , got the old one and I test a sworks 2017 and ..... It's super cool expect it's less versatile but it's stronger when it's fast steep..
2017 added a full carbon rear triangle, SWAT tool box and threaded BB for the enduro. When I saw that I placed my order. Only upgrade you "need" is a shorter stem on the s-works. Or just get the frame; put Fox 36 or Ohlins 36 fork on with enve hoops/stem/bar and 1x drivetrain you will be a happy, happy boy.
Trevor Iverson Don't get Ohlins suspension (my opinion). Fox factory 36. Also carbon is stiffer. Alloy flexes more. Personal preference really. Weight is not really a point.
been riding 29ers for 10+ years and my lowest weight during that time was probably 200. fully geared up, I'm around 225. not as tall as you, but the weight is there. no issues ever tacoing a wheel. taco'd a few 26er wheels before I rode 29ers though...
well to be honest it is good that they test this bike in entry level model for a change...because all bike magazines and bike videos usually testing top model which cost like 8000 usd/eu and for the majority of people those bikes are unavailable because of price tag. If you want some results about this bike in carbon spec you can find on pinkbike, vital mtb and enduro mag (they compared this bike vs new Slash 29).
bitumen83 i agree. I miss read the above comment as a moan that they don't ever review cheaper bikes. think its great that the Comp is getting some attention
Johannes S Medium Travel, Short Travel, and Womens categories coming soon. Check 2017 Bible of the Bike site. probably another 20-25 bikes left to do still. They always do long travel/enduro first.
I really like the new format and everything, but most of the aggro 29 reviews sound the same which in the end doesn't really help my choice on which one to get. Maybe a comparison between bikes in the same platform Highlighter the strengths and weaknesses between the bikes. Or maybe they are so similar that it just doesn't make sense to do that, but either way it'd be nice to know your feedback in future reviews.
colt hawkins Did you demo an XL or the Large? I am 6'4" with 36" legs and am looking at this exact bike. Standover has never been an issue for me. I need a good long reach/top tube.
Matt Mitchell the 27.5 didn't climb very well in my opinion but my buddy who's the best climber in our group said the 29er climbed very well and one of my buddies who's owned both the 27.5 and 29er said the 29er is significantly better at climbing over the smaller wheeled brother
Great bike for sensible price for me it's probably the best in this test so far. Personally I am not a fan of SRAM Guide brakes so I would sell them immediately and replace them with Zee (even if they were on a $6000 bike) and maybe I would get another dropper post but otherwise nothing really to fault on this monster... get another wheel set built with Hope hubs Flow MK3 rims and it still stays under $4000. It's a lots of money but with today's insane bike prices that's a bargain...
what do you mean please, I'm just starting out after years out the fold (everything sounds Greek). looking at a used 2017 model, is that going to bea big mistake
Bailey Usher I have the enduro elite carbon 650b and it has the same problem. 2 weeks after I bought it I noticed it. I took apart the bottom bracket and noticed that there was zero grease that fixed my issue.
You just say good things about all bikes. For gods sake guys, you didnt say a word bad about cannondale trigger, the most overpriced and outdated bike on the market now,. As almost every cannondale to be honest
Great bike , rides smooth ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L I added a bigger spring loaded seat to it . Takes a bit of adjusting cables to get brakes and shifting to perfect . I've owned quite a few bikes in the past that were absolutely uncomfortable to ride and they always ended up as garage wall decor . I'm not seeing that with this one. It's pretty light I've only ridden it a few miles but I like it . As for the pedals falling off in the other reviews , the pedal arms are aluminum along with the pedal studs look to be also . I would not overtighten them. I can see it would be very easy to overtighten them and strip the threads right off . All in all I think it's pretty good quality besides the aluminum pedal thing
I like that you tested a bike with an attainable price tag. It makes the information so much more useful.

What about the rather "high " Bottom Bracket, is it an issue on decents thru the gnar?
6'5" tall , 220 lbs. 29er sounds like taco Tuesday every day for me. Am I wrong?
Ryan Clark I'm a bit concerned about this myself
..maybe not with an upgraded wheelset

Why do you test the cheapest version of the enduro and not the s-works or the pro model? ...you guys test the topmodels of other brands like trek etc!
they already did on Aug 14, 2016 check there vids
VemundDH is the comp not the entry level?
adammoonface comp is entry level yes

what is the weight of the small 29er version? also, how will the climb performance be compared let say to a giant trance 2 27.5?
Will you test trail bikes as well or is it just enduro?

You guys need a tripod. Who's your camera man, Michael J Fox?
adammoonface terrible
im 128lb, 5.9 on a 2016 endure elite medium frame with 29'' wheels. feels big cruising but downhill is quite maneuverable and goes over anything.
Kyl3 D im 5ft 9 and planning to get this 29 fattie they are reviewing. Is it big? Is it worth getting a small
+Bike Magazine can you please include some canyon bikes in next years test (spectral or strive)
I'm pretty sure Canyon are not available for purchase in the US.
Ted Ferenczy they will be available in the us starting this summer/fall
... yet
They should be by now, arent they??

imagine though, if you couldn't look down at the bikes when riding, i bet they do feel a lot alike. more similar than different.
the stand over on this bike is very very tall for the L/XL, like a great Dane.. deal killer for me personally and I've demo'd it
really? surprising. how tall are you Colt?
colt hawkins Did you demo an XL or the Large? I am 6'4" with 36" legs and am looking at this exact bike. Standover has never been an issue for me. I need a good long reach/top tube.
Matt Mitchell it was the XL. at 6'4" I say XL, the Large reach felt short to me
colt hawkins Thanks a lot man. That is what I was thinking (XL). Does it climb as well as all the reviews say it does for how huge it is?
Matt Mitchell the 27.5 didn't climb very well in my opinion but my buddy who's the best climber in our group said the 29er climbed very well and one of my buddies who's owned both the 27.5 and 29er said the 29er is significantly better at climbing over the smaller wheeled brother

I have this bike and my cranks make horrible noises can someone please help🙏🏻
