Thanks for the video of my car, and nice meeting you guys @1320video that weekend. For some of the comments, the run against The white mustang was a "roll race", hence the 15sec pass. That was also Aric's car from Injected Engineering. It runs 9's if you were wondering. Look them ip, the build killer cars. My car is a stock 5.3 with a zr1 cam (which added 50hp to the wheels after I installed it), that runs on pump gas and makes 450 to the wheels on 8#. Yes, it could make more, some fine tuning should work that out. Yes, i need more practice at the drag strip. Yes, this is a fun, very clean, street car that draws a croud everywhere it goes. Thanks for looking liking (and hating too) lol..
What's it weigh? I have an 04 silverado rclb with a turbo 6.0 in it which is a riot on the street but i'd imagine you're a fair bit lighter! I think I'm probably right around 4400 as it normally rolls around.

With me, and a full tank it scaled at 3400. Its a fun ride. It has more in it. That was the first time at the strip for the car, and my first time at the strip in years...haha.

yess i love volvos to, they are a special kind of car. and not for everyone, you love them or hate them. nothing in between :)
It's great seeing builds like these! I really dig the look of the older model Volvo's! It would be nice to see one w/ an upgraded Volvo motor tho, instead of an LS Swap.

tat2titan get your ass to scandinavia then! Here we love to tune the shit out of the b230fk/ft engine, aswell as the t5. Fk you can easily run 500bhp, and the t5 is good for 1000bhp+++

As a teen in the 70's, we lived beside the freeway. I could always tell when a 70's Volvo was going by. You'd hear a whistling sound, from the terrible aerodynamics, turn your head... and sure enough..a Volvo/box was driving by... and not fast - 60-70 mph.
That Volvo sits just right on it's wheels. Great looking car, and great colour for a 240
Almost my dream car. I'd prefer the V8 out of the XC90. Glue on two turbos, like they did in the Noble M600 and you'd be ready to roll. To me, Yamaha is one of the greatest constructors of performance engines!

I dunno. It would work, but a 72mm turbo isn't ideal for the redblock. I have a buddy running a 60mm on his 940, and even that takes its sweet time to spool.

I did see one redblock 8V that make 1300hp. And a the 16v do make 1-400mor hp ;)

Ls haters don't understand that they're cheap, relatively reliable, easy to work on, compact, aftermarket parts everywhere, and they make power just to name a few.
its just people use it all the time and even though I like and respect it, itd be cooler to either push the limits of the stock engine, or swap something unique. Just for something different
anthony lach. Modding is above all an expression of creativity and technical ability. It's just not interesting past a certain point to do what everyone else has done. Nothing wrong with it, but it's a "first build" thing to do.
Loved the video and I love this Volvo! I have a 1989 Volvo 244 that is cherry but has no engine. I plan to do a V8 install also.
So, I've been studying this video and I'm curious about this final race - the one against the dark pewter colored Mustang. You folks must live in a different part of the country because our local dragstrips don't have a particular 12 second class and we're all running 1/8th mile tracks. If I am understanding this correctly, you've run a 12.61 ET at 126.78mph vs the Mustang's 12.77 ET at 117mph. You are quicker and faster than he is. But the Mustang took the win light. He must have cut a great light and beaten you off the line. Is this correct?

Damn this is an old post, but those things aint too heavy they are around 2,800 pounds stock so its probably 3,200 after the swap

$200 car with a $10k engine lol. Still, it's a nice build with the potential to run decent times with some MTs on the back. Might want to change his diff ratio too.

Is it just me or should that car be faster? Obviously he's losing time because he's shifting but guys are running mid 14's in 240s with mildly modified B230FTs barely scratching 300hp.
Car doesnt have the traction for it, that thing could start a burnout at 80mph without going wide open throttle. He just built it as a fun street car, not a competitive dragster
get a rearend in that thing and launch it like you hate it
if you say so, the axles twist and snap off pretty damn easily(bring spares if you have any kind of power and tires to put it down), the center will last a little while welded up, but it's still basically gambling. it's an overkill rearend for a 200hp volvo from the factory, it's on borrowed time behind anything 2-3 times that power level that can hook(and a manual doesn't help)

I'd rather see a turbo redblock. I'm all for v8s but I'd rather see someone push the limits of the original motor instead of swapping it. clean car though.
People have squeezed four-digit numbers out of redblocks, so I don't see why not.. No, they're not as cheap to build, nor as efficient as the LS, but heck they can take a darn good beating if you build it right!

if you can hear a v8, in a car that you know doesnt have a v8, how does it still count as a sleeper? isnt the point of a sleeper something that looks like a plain car, sounds like a plain car, and even tastes like a plain car but then it takes off and you see the tail lights?
if you hear it at idle it probably just sounds like a shitbox with a hole in the muffler
