I have stepped down from a 750 to a Forza 300 due to my age (60+) and struggled to move the 750 around. I absolutely love the Forza, very nippy and easy gets up to around the 85-90 mph. I use motorways to get to work and it will happily sit at motorway speeds all day with a bit extra to spare. Fuel consumption is around the 90mpg mark. Have put on 20,000 miles in two years with no issues, belt and rollers changed at 15,000. Happy riding
I'm on big bikes for years now... And thinking of downsizing... In June this year had a car pull in front of me, luckily no injuries... This PCX looks relaxing...
Yeah very easy to ride. If your used to bigger bikes I’d say go for the Forza 300 or new 350. Much more capable on faster roads. But still has all the benefits of the PCX. Stay safe.
Nice video. I've been a car driver for 11 years and finally I did my CBT yesterday, I'll be going to a Honda dealer to check out a PCX after seeing your videos. Keep them up and keep safe!
Cheers mate. Very similar to me. You'll love the PCX - fantastic scooter for the money and it's only out it's comfort zone in the high speed stuff - anything else it's super flickable and fantastically practical.
@@jrewillis You mentioned doing the Peak District, that looks about equidistant between us. A nice little PCX ride out would be in order. I think you should do the DAS, you don't have to buy a bigger bike but it would be nice to have the flexibility.
Videos are perfect. So much I'm gonna buy myself one myself one as an extra. Can't get there fast enough for my self. Was going to get a triumph scrambler 900cc but now I'm getting a honda instead. Might have to pick up a used one because I can't wait for a new one...
Nice video. I’ve had the similar dilemma as you with my PCX. I did my test on a YBR 125 back in the day when an A2 licence automatically upgrades to a full licence after 2 years. Simpler times! Technically I can ride anything now and have been tempted with bigger bikes , but I’ve stuck with my PCX as its perfect for the urban commuting I use it for . Head has ruled the heart!
Blimey. Auto upgrade after 2 years. That must have put some young hands on very fast handlebars 🤣🙈 yeah it's a tough decision. I'll take my test anyway I think. That way I'm not restricted to any bike in particular if I ever want to change it
Hi m8 I had the cbr 500 last year it was a lovely bike and the gearbox was very nice and I used to keep up with my friends cbr1000 and when I gave him my bike to try he was very impressed take care tim
Fantastic news. I'll go check them out I think. My mate has a CB500F too. I'll have to do some digging. I'll drop you a message and arrange a ride with you and Kamran 👍🏼
Surely the best of all worlds has to be an upgrade to a Forza 300, because you will have the full motorway cruise ability, whilst still retaining all the benefits of a scooter? No matter how nice the CB500X is, you still need a back pack, Screen, top box, or panniers. PS, Great to see English reviews on the PCX though, keep up the good work.
Yeah I'm thinking this too. I love how practical the scooter is. I'll test ride both. A 300 would be a big upgrade over the 125 anyway. Thanks for watching!
@@jrewillis Just as a thought, I started on a 250 BSA (15 HP), to a A 65 Lightning, (650), even had an FJ 1200, and a CBX 6 at one point, but through them all I had the old CG125, and to be honest, I enjoyed pootling about them country lanes in north Wales on the little Honda as much as anything. If I was returning to biking right now, I'd probably go for a Forza 125, because in reality, it'll hold it's own in most traffic situations. I learned many moons ago that the appeal of biking wasn't the outright speed, but more the freedom of getting out in the sticks and just enjoying the countryside.
When your in bridgnorth. If you follow the sign for kidderminster. Along the bridgnorth road theres a bikers cafe. Bridgnorth cafe. It's a great place. Especially on a sunday. Thousands of bikes including scooters. Bewdley is a nice place for a ride too. Especially the back way to bridgnorth or the bewdley switch backs that lead to stourport. Some nice tight bends
I’ve had a full bike licence for 32 years and had a wide range of powerful motorcycles. However having said that i have also during that time owned a Honda Forza 300 and was well impressed with it. I put 3000 miles on the forza in 3 months that was commuting and i also done a tour on it. I found it to be plenty fast enough for the bigger roads. So if you like the practicality of a scooter i would definitely recommend the Forza 300. In fact I’ve got a Suzuki 650 at the moment and am thinking of chopping it in for a scooter.
Hello Mark, thank you for your thoughts on riding a Forza 300 and going back to a scooter. Bigger bike may not always better. My dream is a tour through England and Scotland. Currently I am riding a 125 cc Scooter. Thinking of upgrading to a 300 cc Scooter. Almost same weight & price. Just the benefit of having some 25 ponies and be able to travel more easily and safer on highways and now and then on the Autobahn. The downside is a pricey driver's license upgrade which does set one back approx. €2.500. Best from Germany,
@@philippjulien8549 Hello Philipp Yes the Honda Forza is a great scooter. And I do believe they are bringing out a new model for 2021. It is a 350cc so will have a bit more power/torque. I would also recommend Scotland for a tour as it is a lovely country with great roads for bikes/scooters. Regards Mark
your first video got me to buy one of these, but like you im moving up. but im doing a car, after 2 winters iv decided its not ideal, but im still keeping my pcx for nicer days.
Nice! Thanks for commenting. I’m glad you found my videos useful. I’ve got my MOD2 test in a fortnight. 🤞🏻 I’ll have a full license in 14 days! I still use my car when it’s bad weather - not worth the risk IMO. But don’t give up on your PCX - it’ll be fun this summer!
Hopeful. I just haven’t been on big bikes since December so quick refresher lesson next week then into test the following. Still sharp on skills so should be fine. Just need to get used to power again lol
Hi John, I've gone through all of these thought processes too. Did my theory and had a few lessons on a cb600f which was so lovely and silky smooth. I failed the MOD 1 as it was in November and 0 degrees so couldn't commit to the high speed swerve so knocked the cone. I would so love a bigger bike say a z400 or cb500 but have seen so may RUclips videos of people being taken off and coming off them it's put the fear of God in me. I'm a sensible rider on the 125 but you cant legislate for people being on their phone or oil on the road etc. Anyway, keep us all posted. Cheers.
Don't know if you know the 2 big bridges on the A5 road near a place called Chirk in North Wales. I was going across them and a few times I got blown into the middle of the road.
I do know it! Yeah side winds can affect even bigger bikes. My 650 got blown about earlier this year in the storms. Secret is loose arms and just lean to react!
Hi John i rode bikes from 16 to 36, had a 50cc many many 125s scooters and geared also had a fair few mid range bikes, 600s etc and some 1200cc touring bikes. i ve taken 12 years out my last was a 2 week tour of Brittany on a Bmw 1200 LT to get bikes out of my system! But as im approaching 50 next year im thinking of buying a bike again. The question is..... what do you want from a bike? MPG? Keep the PCX 120mpg ride it any time, hop to the shop or have a 50 mile ride at the weekend for no money in fuel! Or do you wanna tear up the roads ride like you stole it, get a Sports bike. Or Tour the Continent, buy a touring bike. Every bike has its Limits and Compromise either weight, or Mpg. Im looking at 3 bikes, A Vstrom 650 A CB500x or Maybe a Xmax 300, or even a PCX and ditch the car if i loose my job due to Covid! Some of my Favorite bikes have been Gilera Runner 172 (180) 2 Stroke Race tuned level 7! A SV650 Naked A BMW 650 GS Dakar CBR 600 To name a few. But its all about what you want from a bike. Id say do your Test Definatley and have fun test riding some until you find something that works for you.
Thanks Mike. Didn't realise you'd currently not got a bike! I assumed you had. The cb500x is high up on my preferred list too currently. I'm gonna speak to the guys at Black Country Motorcycle Training I think see if we can work a deal out 🤣🙈👍🏼
@@jrewillis no no bike for 12 years, not buying till next year. im also edging towards the CB500x unless i was carrying a pillion regular then id say Vstrom. Anyway Enjoy choosing, why did you leave it so late? i was young foolish and ragged the Fxxx out of every bike i had, now though im going to be sensible middle age! :)
@@jrewillis lol yes theres only so fast you can go its called the throttle stop! (the bit where it cant go any further!) Best wishes bud, ill keep watching your vids. Many thanks Mike
And as I message I have my friends honda cbr 1000 here as the bike had an oil starvation by buying cheap oil filters off ebay and it spon the shims in the crank so I'm sorting it out for him as he only trusts me to do the job so take care tim
Well John after seeing your review etc and lots of others specially from owners, as for me a quick wazz up and down some lanes for half a day tells you zip what a bikes really like. I'm picking a up little PCX on Monday, first bike I've had after a 40 year lay off. I have to confess the real reason I stopped riding was the skid lid law, I still don't like the bloody things and have bought the lightest helmet I could find that was still legal ,. Wind in your hair is unfortunately a thing of the past Although that said I did hire a Morgan three wheeler last year with the S&S 2 litre X wedge Harley engine and that was definitely wind, rain and everything else in your hair great fun even the missus loved it. I am lucky as I'm retired so time means nothing and pottering at 55 mph or so suits me , lots of time to look around and take in the scenery. I may even whack my hiking gear rucksack on the back and retrace the west country touring route i did in the early seventies on an old matchless chair outfit with my brother. Thanks for your opinion its helped a lot. Up grade? by all means its your money and more squirt is always nice. But all i'll say is for commuting under 20 miles in traffic bigger bikes are a pain in the backside. I did it for 15 years Essex too London summer and winter ideally id say keep the PCX for work and buy a weekend fun bike, we did that with cars an MX5 for fun in the lanes and a Hyundai as a work horse Mind you kids ain't happy its some of their inheritance she blew on the MX
John Willis HI john as a follow up I Just did the theory also yesterday as I’m planning to get rid of the L Plates . DAS is rather expensive for me as a pensioner but I may talk to the school and see if I can either spread the cost . Or just do a bit at a time as I don’t need to do it in 4 days. If I bothered with a bigger bike being old school I’d be looking at a Royal Enfield 650 nothing bigger . Love burnished alloy. My local school is £640 for DAS plus the £90 test fees
Hello John -best pcx videos on you tube. Get your licence done and out of the way- should be a walk in the park after watching all your videos - passed mine in 93 and looking at the Forza 300 just because it’s physically bigger-electric screen and keyless - and more of a distance cruiser - once your test is behind you it will give you the option to test various bikes and put the on your channel with your opinions on all of them (sure Honda dealers would be willing if they saw your videos ) Your insurance should also go down so eventually covering the cost of lessons and test - just wish they made the PCX slightly bigger and larger engine as it has great styling for a scooter.
Thanks so much Paul. Very kind of you to say based on my riding. I really enjoy being out on 2 wheels. Gears or not doesn't really matter. Ideally I'd loved a Honda 750 DCT but I definitely can't afford that 🤣🙈 - thanks for the kind comments. Really appreciate them. 👍🏼
John Willis cheers John. To be honest it would be great if you got a Forza 300 - just to see a really good honest review as you have done with the PCX 👍👍
Hi John - quick thought please - 59 yr old beginner - what's the PCX like two up ?Just considering one to take away with camper van and just do a little local sightseeing here and there with the wife. Looks like the perfect machine for that - any comment ? Cheers from your newest subscriber - Well done on ur test BTW. - do you miss the PCX ?
I do miss the simplicity of the PCX. So effortless to ride. No gears etc. And the brakes etc feel fantastic in comparison to the YS125. I’ve never ridden 2 up on the PCX. For town based roads I’m sure it would be fine. I wouldn’t take it on roads above 40. I think it’d struggle. But for 20-40mph stuff should be fine. Thanks for the sub. Really appreciate it 👍🏻
Great channel John. I've just been made redundant and am looking for a scooter/bike to cut down on travel costs. I've booked my CBT and am also thinking about whether a 125 is sufficient. I'm looking at the PCX, SH125i, Super Cub and others. You videos on the PCX have been very useful. I've found the process on looking for the right bike very confusing. Good luck with your theory. I've subscribed. Oh, love Shropshire, my favourite English county so far.
Couple of things to consider is that if you do want a bigger bike it's likely cheaper to just get a small car as the insurance for new riders is expensive and the DAS tests / training will likely be £600 ISH. So carefully consider what sort of things you need to bike for and the type of roads you ride on. Any questions then just ask!
@@jrewillis Well done John. With regards cost of training, I was very surprised how much it is. I'm also looking at HGV, there is not as large a cost difference between Bike training and HGV training as I expected.
Yeah I think it's extortionate when you consider driving lessons include use of a car and insurances etc plus 1-2-1 instructors. I have no idea why it is so expensive really. Maybe a ramble about that on my next vlog 🤣🙈👍🏼 Sorry to hear about your job loss mate. Keep your head up. I'm sure you'll find work soon.
great video mate, enjoyable to watch..as regards wheather to buy a bigger stronger bike, my advice is dont bother. Increased power increases risk..you start driving faster, why? cause you can. Id trade in that pcx mate for a 2021 version, and just keep it chilled, big bikes aint worth the money
Cheers mate. I’ve got my new 125 and a bigger bike now. They only go as fast as you make them - I’ve got good self restraint 😂. I really do prefer how a bigger bike “feels” and being able to cruise at national speed limits when touring will be so much more relaxing than giving it everything to keep up with traffic. I’m considering keeping my 125 to commute on (can you ever have too many bikes 😂🤷♂️)
Great video buddy. How do you record your audio? I have a GoPro camera but can’t record audio with an external mic. Thanks again - nice bike BTW, I currently have a Suzuki Burgman 650 and as nice as it is, she is very very heavy to manoeuvre.
Hi I took my test on a nmax 125 that's all. Wanted to ride now have a forza 125 does all I want to do No motorways here on Norfolk just B roads. The way I look if I got bigger engine faster I would want to go and to be honest 125 fast enough for me even 2 up. But only use it on dry days use car for everything else
Yeah I get that. I’m in the process of getting my full license and will be changing bike. But not sure what to yet. Needs to be sensible still. But I’d like to be able to travel further in comfort.
I’m with you. If and when I get my full license I’d be happy with just a bigger engine scooter as I still have a car and can’t really justify a big bike. Do like some of the touring bikes tho.
Also the belts will last for 10k miles and the CVT is very reliable m8 as my burgman did 7 thousand miles and my rollers was fine and when I changed the variator to a costa ths belt did not want changing and if put 10 mph on top speed but I did not need it but my revs dropt down 1 thousand so 70 mph is know showing 8 thousand not 9 thousand and me know next time I change from the burgman 200 I'll get a forza 300 and put on a j costs variator as I think the forza 300 is the best choice tim
How ya doing John.Got the same thoughts as you man.I just bought my PCX,done 600 miles on it in a week time and going for a service now. When u drive on high speed roads like u saying it dose wobble a little bit and u have to be ready cause i got couple situations when i felt something will drop in my pants in the sec.Am thinking about getting Lexmoto LXR 125c.Dont get me wrong, love the scooter but i think i have to go for the bike to be ready for my full A licence. In the other hand i love PCX cause its great ride and no hassle with thinking about clutch or gear changing. All the best man enjoy your six weeks :).
@@jrewillis Thats why i wanna get LXR 125,bigger tyres and bike looks way bigger than any 125.Like u man am thinking hard and cant make my mind he he :D.Especially that i got my PCX and the question that goes thrue my mind is there any point getting anything else.
The issue with a 125 with fat tyres and bulky appearance means it'll be slow. Even slower than any PCX. I am leaning more towards a 500 adventure bike I think....
Have a mt07 as well as my PCX125. Only had the scooter 1 month just had the 600 mile service and done about 500 on the yam over the month too. One part of me thinks the scooter is great and should I trade up to a Tmax but then I jump on the yam and realise I prefer the ride and position. I can ride the pcx and keep up with most cars on A and B roads although overtakes are a planning process whereas on the yam you think about it and boom you’ve overtaken with no drama. I passed my test 9 years ago and went Direct so you then get the choice of what you ride 👍🏻
When you are as young as you sound to take the full test, get it out the way and get a bigger machine,i say this because i am 73 next month and have had a Suzuki van van , and now i am wanting this scooter , for some longer trips out, but i have only a cbt which i need to take again, but at my age and the cost of doing a full test its just not worth, But having said that i am full of regret for not doing it all those years ago when i had my 25c Benelli,so go for it asap, cheers mate very enjoyable video, my concern was,can you go out for a very long roundtrip and not be worrying about the bike having any probs, Because in my head i thought they were just designed for the round town, etc,.thanks again,
I'm torn between the PCX and NMax. My last one was an XMax which I sold 2 years ago but I'm looking for something less expensive this time around, seeing these reviews leaves me a little bit indecisive.
They are both very similar. Roughly the same speed and build quality. Ultimately pick the one you can afford, or get the best deal on. You’ll be happy on either. The lack of rear disc on the PCX isn’t an issue. The brakes are more than good enough. Plus drum brakes requires less maintenance. Stay safe out there 👌🏼🤜
Nmax will give a bit more spark in driving, whilst PCX will guarantee a 100% liability and champion in fuel-efficiency - the Honda dealer told me rightly that you can keep a PCX for 10 years and 100.000km.
I had a 19 plate PCX on a cbt and was in exactly the same position as you, it’s good enough for most things but not quite everything. Took theory and both tests in April last year and part exchanged the PCX for a 19 plate NC750X. Never looked back, all the scooter advantages and a lot more power. Commute is better and more stable (no wind issues), improved ride quality, easy overtaking and I now go on a lot more longer fun rides where the PCX would have struggled. Oh, and bikers now acknowledge me, rather than dismiss me as either a kid or deliveroo rider. Is it worth the money...well, biking is expensive but you only live once so I say go for it! I still have a vision 50 for around town, you can never have too many bikes 😁
Thanks for the feedback. I'm going my lessons now and will be taking MOD1 soon I think. I really think I'll likely upgrade. Maybe around spring next year - by then I'll hopefully of had time to test ride a few bikes once I've passed. They are launching a Forza 750 soon so that may well be the one I look at 👍🏼
@@jrewillis the very best of luck to you but sure you’ll be fine. Yes, the Forza 750 is looking interesting indeed...with a full licence the choice for you will be endless!
Quick question mate. Did you got for the DCT version of the NC? If so. What's it like on a commute? Is it smooth like a scooter? Nimble? Good on fuel? Thanks mate
@@jrewillis yes I did get the DCT, however I’ve fitted the foot gear shift and use it mainly in manual mode...I know that sounds crazy and why buy a DCT and then change gears, but the DCT gearbox and foot shift gives you the best quick shifter you’ll ever experience, it’s just so much fun....no clutch but up an down the box as you like. Anyway, yes the auto mode is fab, drive is lazy but sport 2 is most like how you would shift yourself, it really gives you so many options to ride either super frugal and conservative or like a lunatic on the twisties. It is Jekyll and Hyde, ride is slow and it’s the ultimate commuter but wind open the throttle and you’ll see 0 to 60mph in 5 seconds. I get about 80 mpg and find it better for filtering than the Pcx, sounds unbelievable but because it sits high the bars and mirrors are usually well above cars so weaving through traffic is actually easier despite it being wider. There are faster bikes and comfier scooters but like people say this doesn’t do one think splendidly but does everything well... a jack of all trades. Just my two penny worth, but when you can test ride things and see what works for you!
I like the pcx 125, I like the Forza 125 & 300, and I like the cbx! I haven't got one yet, but I'd like to start with a 125 scooter and keep it, and have a Forza 300 or cbx500 or both! But it's money and space. The CVT belts are a cheap and basic consumable, relatively easy fix, so I wouldn't worry about that, they last a good 8000miles I believe. When they wear down you notice a drop it top speed. But I don't think CVT belts would cause you an issue for longevity.
I have pcx as well as gts300. Plus big bikes. But I prefer my scoots because of the transmission and storage. 300 x max is brill. Very easy at 70. And no messy chain. On my big bikes I still avoid mway,so boring on a bike! But as you get into it more I bet you will get a bike as they are fun. Then eventually back to scoot, save license 😀
@@jrewillis I've got a Forza 300cc and I've had starting problems since new. I suspect it's the sensor on the kick start is faulty and its booked into dealer for a check up. Otherwise it's an okay scooter.
When your spoilt for choice its hard lol. Are you hoping to go the manual or stay the automatic route? It just takes more time and money to get used to geared bikes im assuming compared to a twist n go. Im in the same situation as you. But having the forza 300 that extra power I would say you could go on so many unrestrictive speedy roads and keep up with traffic, overtake safely and your commute would be cut in half and that your not redlining the 125 doing 60mph. But the finance price is a concern. Thats the only con I can see.
Yeah I’ve been finding learning fine tbh. Passed my MOD1 and MOD2 has been rearranged twice now. But hopeful I’ll get passed before summer. I’ve got a new bike. Video coming soon 👍🏻
hi john ,have owned lots of bikes over 50 years. largest probably honda pan european,to smallest honda vision 110. have owned latest honda 300 forza,at the moment just bought new honda sh 350. i am now 72 and wish in some ways i have your willpower to keep a bike. i am a serial bike changer. i do not regret anything and have enjoyed a great motorcycling life. i have just had a yamaha tmax 530 for 6 months but found it too heavy to move around. ps i have a pcx 70 reg in same colour as you. its now done 350 miles and its a great little bike. dont think i am bragging because i genuinely prefer bikes. some people might buy an expensive range rover or something but not for me. i used to deliver petrol for my job around your area before i retired. best wishes enjoy whatever you decide on. i have all my bikes now from sutton motorcycles and highly recommend them.
Hiya John. Thanks for commenting. Glad to hear you are enjoying riding still! I think I may well end up back at a PCX in years to come they really are brilliant.
How ta doing John.Fast question man.Whats the max speed u can go on ur pcx ? i can do max 56 mph,am 90 kg.I Just read that u need about 2k miles on the clock to unlock full speed of the scooter :].I dont know if am getting that right.
All good dude. Yeah it'll free up at bit when you get a couple of thousand on it. I can do 65-70 depending on wind. Has to be flat though - any hill will reduce the top speed. Hope you got your bike fixed up. Ride safe 👍🏼
I've had a Honda PCX (2015 model) and now planning on getting a new one probably next February or March. What do you think of the Lexmoto Aura? At the moment it's £1000 cheaper than a PCX I don't like the Yamaha NMax.
All my experience of Chinese cheap bikes and all my friends experience is that they are cheap for a reason. Lots of garages won’t work on them due to poor quality control and lots of poor build issues. It’s worth paying the extra for the Honda. Plus fuel efficiency of the Honda will be better with the new ESP engine too.
As with all the bikes I have as you know john I'm more riding the scooter as they are very practical with the space under the seat so the forza 300 is 90mph the Suzuki burgman 400 8mph more but I do like the kymaco 400 as they are a very good scooter as Kawasaki uses kymaco on there j300 take care tim
Hi i was just wondering have you looked at a Yamaha tricity 300 if you have a full car licence no test needed, i have only ever had 125cc bikes on a cbt the last bike being 10 years ago i am now planning to do a new cbt & pick up a pcx to get some NCB then move on to the Tricity 300
Good luck finding anyone who can insure one without a bike license. I found it either difficult or incredibly expensive. They might quote but speaking to most who quote then then require a full bike license. By law they don’t but they just won’t insure you without one.
Tried them. They still didn’t seem very keen when I told them I just had a car license. I could easily get the 125 one insured with CBT no bother. But it’s crap by comparison. I’ve got myself a Kawasaki Ninja 650 now. Just can’t ride it as my test has been cancelled due to tiers then lockdown 😭🙈
The other problem is that the MP3 have been reclassified as an A class bike rather than a trike. It’s a loop hole that they closed a few years back. If you’ve got a “normal” post 1992 license then you likely can’t ride the MP3 without a full bike license. It’s all to do with the track width on the front wheels. It’s too wide.
got my pcx in June 2018. fantastic scooter only done 1500 miles . just got my full bike licence so went see the 300 forrza. my local honda dealer only offered me £1650 and their is a 40 litre top box. so am going to sell it on eBay. so will go to Manchester to get the j300 instead. which is better 300 forza or j300. any help would be appreciated
Hi. I'm in the process of moving to a full license. Im likely going to go to a "proper" motorcycle. So it'll be interesting hopefully for the channel to see how I transition. The Forza has an excellent reputation. They are just about to release the 750 version of it. So might be worth you hanging on.
I love to ride the burgman 200 as you can go all day at 70mph with no problems and as I've had over 70 bikes in my life and I've got my thruxton 1200 and the Kawasaki vn 900 I ride the suzuki every time so I've had in my past Ducati 916 and the Ducati ss and gsxr 750 also kawasaki zzr1400 last year and harley Davidson's and cbr1000 and fire blades motoguzzi grisso I'm not boasting or bragging about my bikes so anyone who reads this please understand my thoughts the problems with fast bikes is you have to play safe but at my age I love the practical scooters
Hello just found you on RUclips.i have been riding motorcycles for over 40 years up to 750cc .now I am 65. started scooters about a year ago and on my third scooter 🛵 the latest being a vespa gt 200 2006.which the top speed is only a little bit more than yours. I am seriously thinking about a pcx as they are really popular in Europe look on facebook.the pcx has features that I like petrol fill up, point.underseat storage.abs and mpg.i have seen other people touring Europe and the world on 125cc so sit back and enjoy the view..my vespa is 200 cc and gives half 65mpg. Good luck
Hi, got big mcycle and had a few scooters. Need both. The maxi scooters are fast but not great on fuel. If you want economy etc cant touch 125. Will keep value for years too.maxi scooters give addictive acceleration and mpg suffers😂
You mentioned what is simpler - a geared bike or automatic scooter. Got to be the scooter every time. A geared bike utilises a clutch, gearbox, sprockets and chain... a simple system other than the gearbox, but you do need to lube the chain regularly, and probably after every wet ride. No fun on a cold winter's evening. There's YT videos on how a scooter CVT works, but it's even simpler than a bike, and fully enclosed so no chain lubing, tensioning etc to speak of. It's essentially 2 'cones' and a belt. The only reason CVT isn't used on scooters with higher capacity engines is because the torque from those motors makes the belt slip and the system won't work properly, but for smaller capacity bikes like the PCX or Forza, it's an engineering triumph of simplicity and low maintenance. I've owned a number of bikes ranging from 250cc to 750cc, plus the PCX125 I had. Without exception I've always enjoyed the smaller capacity bikes more and have kept them longer. They're just more what motorcycling should be like for me... simple, low tech, low cost. My 750cc was supremely capable, but boring, and I sold it within 4 weeks of buying it new. My two favourites were my Honda CRF250M and my PCX. Small capacity beats big for buying costs, servicing costs, fuel comsumption, and simplicity. In short, they are designed for commuting and transport, whereas too many bigger bikes are for 'lifestyle' and 'image' :( My CRF was fun, economical, glided over potholes, but rubbish at tight filtering with its wider bars, and was a thief magnet. It also had zero storage which meant I needed a backpack and had to lug a heavy chain around everywhere. The PCX's narrow bars was a filtering dream and I was straight to the front of the queue every time. The storage was also great. The CRF was more of a fun toy and the PCX was designed for practical (& fun) transport. When I buy my next bike in a few months time, I think it'll be the new Forza 350. Similar in price to the new CRF300, it offers so much more for the money... better performance (inc. top-speed), lower maintenance, bodywork to protect me more from the elements, cubbyholes with charging plugs and plenty under-seat storage, no going up & down the gearbox like a yo-yo in commuting traffic, not as much of a thief-magnet, keyless ignition etc. I'll travel south to buy it, for the much better service and keener prices (last 4 bikes have been from Dobles and Padgetts), do the maintenance myself, and just ride it. Had a variety of bikes in the past, but they've all led me to what I think will be perfect for me, which is the Forza 350. Good luck with your test & whatever bike you decide on. Will be watching with interest.
Here is what I did. By the way, I am the 116.8 MPG guy from reddit. I am in 40’s, returned to Suffolk after spending adulthood in London, never bothered with cars, so thought for speed would get a bike via CBT and see how things go.(December 2018) Did think about a PCX but got the Forza 125, mainly the extra top speed (near to Felixstowe so loads of lorries, easier to overtake on A14) and 4,000 mile service. First year of the CBT I did a few mini camping tours Norfolk and Peaks, with no problems and put 7000 miles on the clock. So, still none the wiser of what to do, and having a year on the CBT left, I decided to take my theory test (2nd Jan 2020) and passed. Well, having failed my car theory test 2 times then giving up at that point, I had more than a few drinks to celebrate. At some point on the evening, I thought bugger it, why not just book a MOD 1 and see what happens?? (A1 automatic, on my bike). Booked for 7th Jan 2020, just read a lot and watched a few RUclips videos) and what do you know?, passed it. So that evening, even more whiskey and woke up with a MOD 2 test for the 9th Jan 2020. Even more amazing, passed that too. I guess I had sobered up by then. All the tests cost me £113.50, a CBT renew would have cost me £120. Anyway, 3 of the things that I didn’t like about riding on a CBT had gone. First L plates, second motorways and third Europe. I found motorways to be no problems. (cruise along between 65 and 70 GPS speed fully loaded for a mini camping tour, underseat stuffed, top box and ruck sack). Not visited Europe yet (COV-19!) I guess now, or when the world gets back to normal, will I be happy with an A1 automatic licence? I guess time will tell, but not feeling the need for a bigger bike or car at the moment. Just a few comments from things mentioned in you video or good to know, belt gets changed on Forza 125 at 16,000 miles and just had 12,000 mile service and the original city grip tyres are 1-2mm off legal depth. Sorry if had have gone on a bit!!!!
Well firstly massive congratulations on passing all your tests, I am in the process now - I’ll do an update video in a couple of weeks if I get time. But I’ve enjoyed being on a bigger bike but I’m not sure commuting on it would be much fun - the PCX is very nimble by comparison. Don’t worry about the long comment - really helpful insight - appreciate it. Thanks for commenting - be sure to stick around on the channel - I really enjoy the back and forth with regular viewers.
Good vid John ty I'm same position as you regarding go for full license shall I or shall I not love this scooter but like you would like a bit more power pay a grand or renew cbt 😉👍keep the vids coming John 👍
I have tended to move down in power rather than up, mainly because after the initial "thrill" with a bigger, much more expensive bike you are left with the practical realities: you need expensive luggage systems to equal the convenience of scooter storage. Secondly, European roads offer only rare opportunities to safely go more than 60 mph except for boring motorways, so frankly an expensive 100hp, or even 70 hp bike is not much faster between A and B. It's up to you but please don't get sucked into the 1000 cc biking world. It's expensive, and crazy fast. Why risk killing yourself? Even a 400 cc bike will out accelerate 95% of cars on the road. You'll never need more than 500 cc. Don't let anyone persuade you otherwise. If you are touring, why would you ever want a motorway or fast A road? The whole point of touring is to GET AWAY from motorways and experience beautiful landscapes, different cultures and enjoy the scenery. I never understand why UK bikers tear around Europe at silly speeds as they miss all the sights. I went on a 3000 mile trip around Portugal, Spain and France, on a Suzuki Burgman 200cc and never once felt I was "slower" than 90% of traffic. I didn't even need a top box as there was huge storage under the seat and I just strapped an extra bag on the pillion seat. Best tour I ever did, mainly on B, C and even D roads. Rarely saw much traffic apart from tractors, farm vehicles and cyclists. It was bliss.
Avoiding motorways is a good thing! Ur just a sitting duck on a bike with all these lane swapping idiots. The honda forza 125 is ample power. 70 mph all day with eaze! And more comfort than any motorbike! I sold all my bigger bikes and i would never part with my forza.
That's good to know Terry. I'll have to test ride a Forza I think. Would make for easier commuting than a manual bike. 👍🏼
Just got a pcx & love it! At night it is amazing commuter! 👍😀
The lights are so bright aren't they? It's an excellent commuter. I'm likely to upgrade my bike next summer. Not sure yet....
I agree. Where are you based mate? Manchester way?
@@jrewillis Preston. To anyone outside the UK it's Manchester. Handy for the Lakes too.
I've just dropped a reply to your insta message mate 👍🏼
Videos are perfect. So much I'm gonna buy myself one myself one as an extra. Can't get there fast enough for my self. Was going to get a triumph scrambler 900cc but now I'm getting a honda instead. Might have to pick up a used one because I can't wait for a new one...
They are fab. I wish I'd kept mine despite my new 650 I ride I still miss my little PCX for commuting. It was brilliant!
I'll have to test ride both. 👍🏼
Yeah know it well. Had some nice rides around there. The rabbit run from himley to Telford is quite a nice ride too. Lots of fast sweeping bends.
Cheers for the input Mark. Useful to know 👍🏼
Hello Mark, thank you for your thoughts on riding a Forza 300 and going back to a scooter. €2.500. Best from Germany,
@@philippjulien8549 Hello Philipp
Yes the Honda Forza is a great scooter. And I do believe they are bringing out a new model for 2021.
It is a 350cc so will have a bit more power/torque.
I would also recommend Scotland for a tour as it is a lovely country with great roads for bikes/scooters.
Regards Mark
There is a Forza 750 coming out imminently.
your first video got me to buy one of these, but like you im moving up. but im doing a car, after 2 winters iv decided its not ideal, but im still keeping my pcx for nicer days.
@@jrewillis oooooh good luck dude. im sure you will be fine.
Hopeful. I just haven’t been on big bikes since December so quick refresher lesson next week then into test the following. Still sharp on skills so should be fine. Just need to get used to power again lol
Great blog John but needed more of your riding buddy!
Deal! 👍🏼
Cheers.
Good feedback mate. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for your experience 👍🏼
Haha. Speed is nice but honestly there is only so fast you can go legally. And tbh I'm old enough to know better 🙈
Wind in your hair is unfortunately a thing of the past
Although that said I did hire a Morgan three wheeler last year with the S&S 2 litre X wedge Harley engine and that was definitely wind, rain and everything else in your hair great fun even the missus loved it.
I am lucky as I'm retired so time means nothing and pottering at 55 mph or so suits me ,
lots of time to look around and take in the scenery.
I did it for 15 years Essex too London summer and winter ideally id say keep the PCX for work and buy a weekend fun bike, we did that with cars an MX5 for fun in the lanes and a Hyundai as a work horse
Mind you kids ain't happy its some of their inheritance she blew on the MX
Ace thoughts. Thanks mate. Two bikes. Not sure the missus would be happy 🙈. I'll have to see what I can manage 🤣
Get your licence done and out of the way- should be a walk in the park after watching all your videos - passed mine in 93 and looking at the Forza 300 just because it’s physically bigger-electric screen and keyless - and more of a distance cruiser - once your test is behind you it will give you the option to test various bikes and put the on your channel with your opinions on all of them (sure Honda dealers would be willing if they saw your videos )
Your insurance should also go down so eventually covering the cost of lessons and test - just wish they made the PCX slightly bigger and larger engine as it has great styling for a scooter.
If I get my full license then I'll deffo try and get one for a test ride 👍🏼
John Willis 👍👍
Cheers mate. Just walked in from theory test. Passed! Hurrah! Should hope so really given I've been driving for over 15 years lol
Maybe a ramble about that on my next vlog 🤣🙈👍🏼
Sorry to hear about your job loss mate.
I use a zoom audio recorder and sync it in the edit after 👍🏼
Thanks for commenting and ride safe!
Great thanks John
Hi I took my test on a nmax 125 that's all. Wanted to ride now have a forza 125 does all I want to do
No motorways here on Norfolk just B roads. The way I look if I got bigger engine faster I would want to go and to be honest 125 fast enough for me even 2 up. But
only use it on dry days use car for everything else
Yeah I get that. I’m in the process of getting my full license and will be changing bike. But not sure what to yet. Needs to be sensible still. But I’d like to be able to travel further in comfort.
I’m with you. If and when I get my full license I’d be happy with just a bigger engine scooter as I still have a car and can’t really justify a big bike. Do like some of the touring bikes tho.
Cheers Roy!
Cheers mate
I can't imagine any 125 will feel hugely better. I think it needs more weight and bigger tyres. Stay safe.
Great to hear mate. Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it. Maybe I should keep 2 🤣🙈
When you are as young as you sound to take the full test, get it out the way and get a bigger machine,i say this because i am 73 next month and have had a Suzuki van van , and now i am wanting this scooter , for some longer trips out, but i have only a cbt which i need to take again, but at my age and the cost of doing a full test its just not worth, But having said that i am full of regret for not doing it all those years ago when i had my 25c Benelli,so go for it asap, cheers mate very enjoyable video, my concern was,can you go out for a very long roundtrip and not be worrying about the bike having any probs, Because in my head i thought they were just designed for the round town, etc,.thanks again,
Yeah I’m 36, so makes sense. Got my final test booked for 20th May 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
@@jrewillis Well done and good luck with that ,stay safer.
Amazing thanks Stuart. Really helpful mate. 👍🏼
Good to know. I'm pretty handy with a spanner so I reckon I can do most stuff myself. I'd have all 3 if I could...
All good mate. I've got plenty of tools and a torque wrench is always useful.
I'll be sure to video it if I change it myself.
Bridgnorth☺ I dont live to far from there. I live in kidderminster
When all this is over happy to meet up for a ride out. Can meet in Bridgnorth and ride out to Ludlow or similar.
How many miles did you ride on this trip?
Did about 120 miles that trip I think. 👍🏻
Thanks. Good perspective to have. I have considered a Forza 300 or XMAX or TMAX 300 or similar. Will give it some thought. Thanks for the comment.
@@jrewillis I've got a Forza 300cc and I've had starting problems since new. I suspect it's the sensor on the kick start is faulty and its booked into dealer for a check up. Otherwise it's an okay scooter.
Good to know 👍🏼 thanks for commenting
@@jrewillis thanks for the reply john, enjoy the pleasure of picking up a new bike, and also the rest of your motorcycling life.
The liciencing of motorcycles in UK is so unnecessarily complex.
I'll have to check them all out. Either way I'll likely be taking my direct access now I think. I'm certainly heading that way. 🙈👍🏼
@@jrewillis an MP3 owner says to try www.lexhaminsurance.co.uk/products/trike-insurance/
Good luck
Sounds awesome Peter. Glad to have you here. Enjoy the ride 👍🏻
Awesome comments. I’ll keep you posted. Enjoy the new bike when you get it! 👍🏻
Here is what I did. By the way, I am the 116.8 MPG guy from reddit.
I am in 40’s, returned to Suffolk after spending adulthood in London, never bothered with cars, so thought for speed would get a bike via CBT and see how things go.(December 2018)
Did think about a PCX but got the Forza 125, mainly the extra top speed (near to Felixstowe so loads of lorries, easier to overtake on A14) and 4,000 mile service.
Not visited Europe yet (COV-19!)
I guess now, or when the world gets back to normal, will I be happy with an A1 automatic licence?
Cheers mate
I do enjoy my new bike. But I do miss the lightness of my PCX on my commute. Maybe time for two bikes!
Avoiding motorways is a good thing! Ur just a sitting duck on a bike with all these lane swapping idiots. The honda forza 125 is ample power. 70 mph all day with eaze! And more comfort than any motorbike! I sold all my bigger bikes and i would never part with my forza.
Glad to hear it mate. Tbh I’m not about riding on motorways either, it’s a boring place to ride anyway!
