Trail top tip: If your RGT EX 86181 is too loud for your off-road enjoyment, simply drive it in eight inches of water for a quieter trail driving experience! Seriously, though, this is a lovely product, and better at keeping the water out than your wellies!
The GMade BOM (kit) comes with cantilver rear suspension. It's ideal when running a rear cage/flatbed as you don't have any shock towers spoiling the look
Main reason I can see for the inboard shocks is, it makes the frame flat for flat decks body, no shock mounts sticking up. I'd keep the 4th link and remove panhard, less bum stear that way around.
I had the early version of the RS4. I have to say that RGT has really stepped up their game! This one is a serious contender for my possible next RC purchase!
for an in-depth review, tomley for sure my go to channel, for strength and durability, kevin are my go to channel, nice review, love the torque twist reduction transfer case, rgt really up their game now👍🏻
With that transfer case you may be able to set it up with over drive/ under drive. They may be planning to release the gear sets soon.. im guessing. I think the best part about the cantilever suspension is that you will be able to put a hardbody with a full-depth bed on that truck. Most of the toy grade "1/10" bodies are probably perfect for that rig. And most of them have proper full-depth beds.
Thanks for the review & IMO I think it's very capable crawler. RGT has stepped up their game 💯👍 cool run vid & water crossing was a nice touch 👌 Cheers 🍻
@@TomleyRC that’s true. I had to use a aftermarket cantilever on my 10.2 so I could do a drop bed hardbody. Cool to see a rtr trail truck with it straight away.
inboard suspension reduces unsprung weight. This means it removes weight from the axles and puts it on the chassis. This is what F1 and many other performance vehicles use. I think the 2021 and up mustangs have them too but don't quote me on it.
Yep. FTX is just the European branding with RGT being the manufacturer. You can sometimes find RGT versions cheaper e.g. EX86110 is £80 cheaper at BG than the Hi-Rock
Nice one Phil it's only the RGT and FTX TEXAN OUTBACK that have that rear suspension set up and the FTX is 300 and something pounds while the RGT is 220 pounds to buy
Hey Phil! Nice truck, I really like the body on it. The suspension is interesting but I am not sure it did a whole lot to help the truck. I also noticed the lights flickering when you put the truck under a serious load. The top flipping up so you can work on it is cool but like you, I find the magnetic mounts can be a pain at times especially when the truck rolls. I put a magnetic mount flip-up set up on my girlfriend's GEN8 (looks like an axil honcho) and when she would roll it the thing would pop open. After multiple times of rolling the truck down hills the body cut the wires to the lights. I ended up putting a kinetic winch on her truck and this stopped the body from popping up during rolls. I didnt mean to get off topic, That story was about a possible fix for the body popping up on you. I noticed that YOU are the only RUclipsr that I know of that has a trx-4 and a yk-4101 have you ever thought of doing a comparison video with those two trucks and then doing a competition video to see which truck is better in speed, pulling, climbing, price point? That would be a really cool video. Even if the trx-4 you have is a sport that would make it better. Just a thought. Keep up the great work man, I love your videos. I have even recommended you to another RUclipsr so he can see what you do in your videos and see how you do your unboxings. Have a great day.
Hi mate, yeah... the mag body is a pain, I’ll make a small elastic tie to hold it down better. I think the lights maybe to do with the Batt being a Nimh and not being able to keep up with the power demand. As for the TRX vs YiKong.... I have the new one coming soon, and plan to run it stock next to the TRX 😎👌
Cool as ,looks great,I told you it was a good move watching your videos, with different brands and finely a review on a crawler me and my son can afford,, purchase mode..thanks tomley
Very nice truck I like it a lot. About cantilever suspension out of the box, the WLtoys 12428 has got it but on the front :-) Cheers and nice video well done. That's a nice peaceful place to go RC'ing with no annoying people around.
its sure got the torque to handle some wheel weight no problem, the initial weight distribution looks REALLY good with motor forward and battery across right behind front wheels... is where I put the battery tray on the Doomsday Barrage (now VW body on it). tires it comes with look good but maybe high silicone content? very hard to tell in a video, also unknown is "did Phil scrub away any mold release from the tires with WD-40 + toothbrush + clean rags?" brand new tires with mold release on them are always lack grip. tires with high silicone content get much more slippery when wet than good rubber ones, good rubber ones with mold release on them CAN look like they're more silicone than rubber..
Man, that looks like an absolute beast! Any truck you can play submarine with has got to be a hoot! Do you think, or have you heard if RGT will be offering a different body styles with that cantilever suspension? Loved the video and info! Cheers bro!
i have had the outback texan for a while now and those wings on the front are weak and crack after a while . plus i took the motor out and upgraded to one much quiter and more powerful one , all in all they are a great rig out of the box , but i do like to upgrade myself , fantastic articulation on them and a great point of balance .
It took 40 years for that to catch on. lol The first cantilever suspension vehicle I ever saw was a BRUISER in the early 80's. Then everyone wanted them for oval and drag racing.... just to make the bodies fit.
I am building a Redcat Volcano brushed based crawler. I know this is not the ideal platform for a crawler, but it is what I can afford, for cross platform compatibility and parts interchangeability, as I am on disability and have very limited income. I intend to compensate for the Volcanoes shortcomings in this application by optimizing the tire selection, implementing 4 wheel steering, and using very soft springs for maximum wheel travel. The Volcano has fully interchangeable front and rear suspension components, so all I need to modify to implement 4 wheel steering is to mount the 2nd servo behind the rear diff. I need to source the cheapest available used parts to complete this build. As the Volcano is a very popular platform I am hoping to find a folks that have used parts or leftover parts from upgrades they will source to me at little cost. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
I was waiting and hoping to see if you were going to do a review on this truck. It seems like it performs decent out of the box. I prefer the green though if I were to buy 1. Oh and no I won't tell traxxas about this trucks cantilever suspension, lol.
Seems to be with IOC in center gears? (Inversion of Control, like the Reely Freemen kit (not the RtR)). Thats cool, minimizes wobbeling. However, it is so loud. Was very interested in the RGT Crusher, but after your video not so much anymore ;) (not your fault, good video as always!). Noise, and does not look as good as on the pics. The reason for the cantilevers is to be able to have a nice flat bed. It's the only reason they are there.
No shock mounts on the arm to get hung up on or to break off.A 9125 front shock mount lower broke off hit a rock
