The cut was to reduce the diameter so the protein skimmer could spin freely. The spin isn't essential and is purely aesthetic. Protein builds up on the surface of the water and manifests itself as a toxic foam deadly to fish. The skimmer literally skims the protein of the top and into the filter system. The submersible pump can't do that job hence the skimmers. I presume the vegetation is a way of neutralising the actual structure of any toxicity. Personally am don't subscribe to that. I plant my ponds then let them sit for a full month running full filtration then introduce a few small fish into the pond to ensure all is well. I certainly would not introduce £K's of Koi en-masse as that is simply inviting trouble.
This time they have a none toxic liner, protein skimmers, adequate shade and aeration and almost enough depth (two more rows of bricks would have done it). The brush filter needs far more brushes though. A far cry from the last effort I saw on this channel though the electrical supply could be better. Single brick stretcher bond walls are inherently weak and piers should have been incorporated at the corners and the centre run of the wall. A pier is required every 3m but when holding back the weight of water I recommend every 1.5m. There is a bad leak at the bottom front face of the brush filter box which will get far worse with time and should have been rectified before introducing fish as stress is factors when they have to be removed to fix it. A noble effort. I presume that rather than it being a private pond this is a commercial enterprise as the aesthetics lean that way. This isn't criticism for the sake of it rather that it is pointing out flaws before YOU make the same mistakes. A lot of effort goes into constructing something like this and the health of the fish is the prime concern so it pays to get it right first time.

Well if it isn't intended to be it will certainly work out that way. The single brick stretcher construction is weak and the water pressure is already causing leaks...look at the bottom face of the brush filter box. This was caused by filling it then emptying it. The flex in the inherently weak wall has cracked the bottom mortar joint and it will happen all round as they didn't incorporate any piers. Ideally the bottom row of brick should be set INTO a concrete base not sit on top of it. I suspect it will be dismantled and was only made as a RUclips video. Purely an exercise where corners were cut badly and viewers should not copy this design.
I have the same doubts! In every video like this they cut banana trees and pout in the first wather. Can anyone tell me the reason? Is cut some effect of the cement or to avoid drain? To turn waterproof? Someone help me! Greats from Brazil!!!

The pipe is cut and glued to make it smaller so it snug fits into the original diameter. The wash was to remove all chemicals that may harm the fish..
