    #1 tip for new SLs: if you're on your way to build a FOB with a logi, boat or heli, and you get caught and surrounded by enemies, don't place the radio in panic, you're essentially giving away 9 tickets (1 for each squad member) + 5 tickets (logi vehicle, unless it's a boat) + 20 tickets (the radio you placed without even being able to build a HAB), almost 40 tickets in seconds in the worst case. Think before doing.

      #2 Tip: Dont go a bridge too far and cap objectives in order.
      One guy back-capping (i hate that term!) isn't nearly enough, most of the time its faster to have 2 squads cap the first objective.

      Plus: You can just place Rally Point on your position (if you're pinned on open field) or you have a chance to go and drop more away (like 50-100m) from your pinned squadmates. This is best think you can do in this situation.

  • @OfflineSquadClips

    Three pieces of advice from a thousand hours SL. New SLs should exercise their judgement to kick toxic players from their squad. Controversial, I know, but nothing is worse than a “backseat SL” who tells you everything you’re doing is wrong or doesn’t make an effort to turn their experience into constructive advice. There’s a right way and a wrong way to give advice while in game, and a vocal minority of the experienced player base doesn’t know the difference.
    Second, once you make a plan, go do it. Even if it’s wrong or ends up losing the match, your role in the game is to act in a direction, decisively, in coordination with other squads. Sometimes a match is decided not by who planned the best but who acted first.
    Finally, you don’t need to micromanage your squad. A great piece of advice I heard growing up was that a leader should delineate (pass down) smaller responsibilities to a trusted subordinate-in your case a Team Leader-and give them a definitive task with the freedom to accomplish it however they want with whoever they want. It puts less stress on you as a leader and allows you to think about broader things like strategy. Remember: the best team is the one with many experts, but only a few leaders.
    Have fun!

    • @pws354_8
      @pws354_8 Год назад +3

      To add to what you pointed out with not needing to micromanage your squad, and saying "a leader should delineate smaller responsibilities to a subordinate," is called practicing an official concept practiced in a professional US military force called *mission command*. What I also would like to add to this concept is to really make sure to overwatch (I must emphasize this is overwatching, not micromanaging) fireteam leaders as SL to see if they are effectively doing the task from time to time to be sure the task is doing good progress, because I already learned the hard way that it isn't enough to just assign the task to your subordinates, as lollygagging or unfocused efforts are things that can hinder progress to achieving an objective.

    Number one tip for any sl or cmd and really anyone who have command of a number of people. ALWAYS specify exactly how needs to do something. If a commander says “someone needs to back cap” it’s not very likely to happen. But by saying “Squad 3, go and back cap the first 2 points” it will usually be done. For sl’s this could be who you want to build something or who you want to hold a certain angle. Always specify.

    • @Drnken229
      @Drnken229 6 месяцев назад +1

      Agreed. Whenever you say "someone" they all automatically think "I dont have to, somebody else will do it", leading up to nobody doing it.
      As for the Commanding, make sure you grab the right Squad as well, not just any Squad. Some SL have more experience, some have less. Some Squads have more offensive weaponry, some have more AT, some like to grab more Snipers.

    While I agree back cap is a great way for newer leaders to get their legs out from them, I'm not sure about defense. It's a rather active and intense role, especially if the other team knows what they're doing. Maintaining logistics, placing proper defenses, managing people so the enemy can't sneak up, organizing counter attack so the enemy can't overwhealm you with 3-4 habs. Defense is easier than attack for hab placement but after that I think the roles switch and defense get's much more difficult. Great video though, more people need to see this

    Squad leading only works if you have a squad that's wanting to be leaded. On the contrary, a squad that wants to be lead is harder to managed than a squad that doesn't.
    I'm identifying the type of people in your squad is half the work because you have to identify their strengths and weakness instantly.
    AND 90% OF squad leaders job is placing Radios & Habs

    • @LoyalAce14

      Yeah when I want to lead squads I usually go into “focused” servers just because people tend to take it more seriously, despite the fact that it can be less fun for guys to get yelled at for not following orders or get into arguments for being too serious. I'm going to learn this because it will vastly improve the experience. The gameplay loop often goes: Try to join a squad, get kicked from squad, join a 'reject' squad, squad leader rage quits, I inherit squad and ask if anyone else wants it, 'NO', squad complains they don't have a spawn point while I do my best to give them direction and get supplies in. Usually it's heading towards defeat at this point anyway but a little more practice and I will be ready to squad lead. I've been trying to learn all the kits and game modes first so I have a better understanding and reading of the battle.

    About placing FOBs on point or not, for me, it depends on whether we're attaking or defending. When attacking, ofc you can't put the FOB on point, so generally we'll spread out the radios. However, we it comes to defending, I'd prefer getting one FOB on active cap, and several other back-up FOBs around it. Some squad leaders would say, "don't put the radio on the cap, you want people to spread out more instead of staying in there getting proxied and killed one by one.". But the problem with spreading out radios, is that when the enemies find out your FOBs, which they usually do, it'll be too busy for the team to save every single FOBs sapcing so far away from each other, especially spread-out FOBs are usually built in the middle of nowhere, we'll lose them one by one and nobody could even get a chance to get on the cap. Sometimes, it's not a bad thing to superFOB and get most of our boys on cap while defending the main FOB at the same time, while some offensive squads could spread out using the back-up FOBs around.

    Bit of advice for command chat. It doesn’t work like squad chat you need to be clear and concise. Before you hit the button pause and think what you are going to say. For example: instead of saying “tank on my squad” say “squad 5 (or whatever) be advised tank mark on Gas Station accurate. Requesting assistance”. This will save you from short tempered commanders and SL’s who don’t like people tripping over their words

    • @creo_one

    @MorrowPlays Месяц назад

    Tip #1 If you are a NEW Squad Leader, don't join an experienced player/community type server and go squad leader. Get some experience in the newer player friendly servers that cater to learning.
    Tip #2 You can now also use the Q/E Keys to rotate any blueprint/radio item.
    Tip #3 Hand out Fireteam leaders to people that are using their mics and seem competent. This will increase Intelligence map flow not only amongst your squad, but amongst your entire TEAM. This gives other elements the info to react to the threat and plan their portion of the attack.
    Tip #4. Defense. Instead of a bunch of sandbags, if you have only a little bit of build, spread out several ammo crates in tactically advantageous positions. This is touched upon slightly in the video, but the reason is that a machine gun generally is going to not be as much of a force multiplier as Well supplied Infantry Squad is. Dont care what anyone says Well supplied Infantry Squad > HMG Emplacement thats static and cannot Maneuver on the enemy threat!
    Tip #5 USE RALLIES! Remember, place your rally while attacking to give yourself an advantageous approach. Avoid open fields, areas that the rally can easily be spotted or camped. Dont place a rally anywhere near your hab either when attacking or defending. On factions that have buddy rallies you can open your map while dead and right click a friendly rally to deploy your own. This is a huge advantage that can create an interesting dynamic for attacking or defending and take advantage of another squads work to maneuver into an advantageous position. The point is, the more spawn areas you have, the more maneuverable you are.
    Tip #6 Assign LAT/HAT teams with a rifleman. A HAT/LAT TEAM or FIRETEAM is far more effective due to the ability for the rifleman to resupply the HAT/LAT as well as cover him.
    Tip #7 MAP MARKERS. Familiarize yourself with the different vehicles on jensens range and utilize the map marker legend. Placing the wrong map marker when trying to mark enemy armor is critical, if a Stryker rolls up on an enemy TANK because you placed a BTR mark, they may die because of your bad intel. If you are unsure, check the legend on the in game screen top right. If you are still unsure ask your squad what it is.
    Side Note: When placing Enemy armor markers, if you know the direction of travel of that enemy element at the time of marking, place a red arrow from it showing your team its direction of travel so that they can engage it more effectively.
