    The Japanese have a special way of gift wrapping. They use a big piece of paper that they fold in a special way, so as to use only one piece of tape to hold everything together. Not only is it practical, it is also very beautiful! More about Japanese culture on www.thejapans.wordpress.com

    On one of my many trips to Japan I remember shopping for something, it was raining outside, the sales lady put my things in a lovely large paper bag that had handles. In the west that would be the end of this story but she then proceeded to install over the top of the bag a plastic cover that was made for rainy days. It even had cut-outs to go over the handles! I love Japan.

    Nice to see there are different ways to do things and still get the end results. My aunt was Japanese and she wrapped boxes pretty much the same. I like wrapping the ‘old-mommy-taught-me’ way. Looks just as great when done and I think just as fast and neat. My hand made ribbons makes the receiver want to admire the gift wrapping and take a picture before opening. Lots better than a stick and glue ribbon. Besides, the gift is going to get torn apart and discarded, sometimes, most times, without a single comment on how nice the wrapping was.

  • @chelseahopeengland

    I dunno... I prefer my way of wrapping gifts where I usually start wrapping it all up at 2am on Christmas morning because I was too stupid and lazy to wrap gifts the day before, I cut off a piece of wrapping paper that's too small so I have to use another piece of wrapping paper that doesn't match like some sort of barbarian, then I spend what feels like an eternity trying to find the end to the tape, and when I do find the end I get tape stuck everywhere because that shit sucks and sticks to everything but the thing you're trying to wrap up, then I sit back and look at the awful monstrosity I have created with wrapping paper and tape everywhere and after a few minutes I remember I didn't take the price tag off of what I bought, so I have to unwrap everything, take the price tags off so people don't see what a cheapskate I am, then start wrapping it all up again. Dammit.

  • @vivianpowell1732
    @vivianpowell1732 4 года назад +7

    Interesting how the gentleman lets the box do some of the work by rolling it into the paper instead of pulling the paper up over the box. You get a much better fit that way, because the box and paper become one harmonious unit working together. There's also a continuous flow going on instead of stop-and-start movements, assuring a snug fit.
    I've noticed this same technique being used in other Japanese gift wrapping videos.
