Hi Luana! Thanks so much for your words of encouragement. 😊 I’m so glad to hear you like it. Comics from newspapers would be a wonderful idea too. I hope you have a great week!
I find this method of wrapping fascinating. I loved the step by step demonstration. I love the meaning behind the method of wrapping in Japan. They take the time to show the value of who they are giving a gift to by taking the time to wrap there gifts. Not paying someone to do it for them or just handing a gift card. None wasteful. Can be reused if no writing on package and opened just by they one piece of tape. I am definitely trying it for the holidays.
She said specifically "how they are wrapped in Japanese department stores" ... it may not be paying someone to do it, but it's still having someone else do it. And I know no one who pays other people to wrap their gifts.
My mother in her 80’s now wrapped every gift herself at Christmas 9 great grandchildren 7 grandchildren 2 children. Plus friends and family. It was so important that each gift was special wrapped to perfection. Receiving these made it so special. If she would have seen this she would have been wrapping in this style.
The sad thing is even after living in Japan for 12 years and seen it done countless times in stores, I still could not get the knack of this on my own, and never found anyone who could show and explain it as well as you have. You've done terrific with this vid.
If you are careful, you can almost always reuse the wrapping paper. You have to be careful with the tape/unwrapping. Rewrapping requires that the next item is mostly the same size. It seems like it requires a box shape, too. The demonstrated way is really ingenious, and I have to try it out.
I.. always use one piece unless the box is larger than the paper I have. Honestly... this is much more complicated than what my mom taught me and uses an extra length of paper, which means more waste.. Sadly I don’t think it’s worth it. Except for the card slot.
@@arriannasanguine8335 I always use just one piece of paper if it's large enough as well. I think I never had to use more. So I agree to that. But I think my wrapping method is a similar waste of paper than this one. So I might try it out. I don't have much gifts left to wrap, so I don't mind the extra time I would have to spend.
@@querela92 Yep! And the trick is washi tape. Easy to remove, and does not ruin the paper like sticky tape. Of course, shinier/thicker paper will get ruined at the folds anyway... but some paper types you can totally reuse. That's why I love boxes tbh! They just keep going around in the family and I refill them every year :)
This was extremely instructional, I find it typical to be unsure of what is happening when watching origami or things of that nature, but it was very clear as to what each step was
Oh my goodness, why have I not watched this yet?! I've watched a TON of gift wrapping videos and read articles on the Japan Wrapping Technique and have never been able to make sense of it even if I somewhat succeeded in doing it! The explanations of how to make sure you have enough paper and how to lay the gift down before beginning helps SO much! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Having lived in Japan for a while, I marveled at the beautiful wrapping technique used even in the smallest of shops. It made me feel very special. I saved a couple of the packages, but this is the best tutorial I’ve ever seen to teach me the steps. Thank you so much for this instruction!
Beautiful instructions! You didn't push ahead, you made sure we understood each fold and direction of the angle before moving on (this is how to lose math students, pushing onward without them getting each step), and ending up with a lovely, wrapped with love present. Our mom was from Japan. She could do some amazing folds with paper and turn a present into A PRESENT! LOL, no one wanted to touch them for a while and were so gingerly in amazement while deconstructing each little step :) Thank you!!!
I'm so confused on why people are saying it's a waste of paper? In the video she's using the *exact* amount she needs. In the U.S., we waste even more by trying to overcompensate in fear of running short, end up folding it in or cutting off the excess and end up with a bunch of unusable, useless strips that end up trashed.
@@43Rhein10 Maybe you're more efficient with paper, but most people aren't. They don't usually use the extra pieces unless they actually have gifts small enough to use em. And if they don't, well that extra paper goes to the trash.
I just realized how good Japanese people are with maintaining things and how they try not to waste a lot. It’s so fascinating. Compared to how I wrap which always ends up with like hundreds of scraps and ripped tape. I love this technique a lot more. Thanks for this vid 👏

My first impression: This is dumb, way too complicated and takes too long. Me after practicing: This is the best way to wrap gifts and I’ll never do it differently ever again. I was proven wrong in every possible way. 🙄
Excellent demonstration and instruction. I like that you make sure to show the fold, repetition is key of teaching, after you make it so it is very easy too see what you are doing. Viewer has less need to rewind the video. The result is perfect too.
My mother used to wrap presents like this. I haven't seen anyone else do this, it's been years since I've seen this done. Thank you for the excellent instructions and the memories this triggered. I'll be attempting this today. 😊. I've now subscribed!

I kind of have to agree that this is unnecessarily complicated, but I do very much appreciate the culture behind it. I’d be very impressed and honored if I received a present that way. I’m not going to wrap presents this way, but I can appreciate that this is a legitimate way of doing it. :)
that is the kind of thing that one should learn and practice - after a few tries, it folds in one breezy moment and looks like magic and easy magic for you, the amazing magician! Thank you!

I'm very grateful for the multiple camera angles, clear and concise instructions, as well as a friendly voice over, intro, and outro (conclusion.) ^_^ I cannot WAIT to give this a try!! I struggle a lot with wrapping gifts and this method would help a lot so thank u i rlly enjoyed it.
Wonderful! I've never seen this method, so I wish she had started the video with a demonstration of wrapping at normal speed--THEN walked us through each step. Well done. Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to explain the steps & so others can understand and with the camera. I have watched other videos which show wrapping but no instructions or how to properly measure. Thank you for your time.
This was really helpful ! My presents look really nice (for the first time of my whole life haha) and the technique isn't really hard, you just have to take it slowly, step by step ! Thank you !
This is wonderful - so creative and 'arty'. Here in the U.S. we just stuff things into a bag, throw a piece of tissue paper on top, and call it a present. In Japan they take time and creativity to show how much they care for the person who is receiving the gift.
The dexterity, the fluidity, the voice like an angel instructing me how to wrap a gift with love and care -- heavy sigh-- well, that's a gift in and of itself. You have pretty hands too by the way. Thank you so much for such a great tutorial. Succinct and light... ideal. I'm looking forward to more of your videos. Thank you once again.
Wow...looks neat...and when done properly the recipient will know the giver really took special time to wrap the gift. And needs less adhesive tape too. That's so lit!
This is so intricate. Then I read a comment about what detailed wrapping means in Japan and I think that is so sweet. I was so suprised by the card slot at the end. My friends and I usually wrap each other's gifts with layers of duck tape, seran wrap, secret notes, and paper to show how much we care (haha, it's all with fun and love, I promise) about each other, so now I want to add this cute method. Even for my normal wrapping.❤ Thank you, ma'am!🎄
Awww yassss~ ! That's me chrissy sorted! Ive been looking for something similar to this for ages. I remember this one thing I had from a giftstore in Japan and it was wrapped similarly in that the folds were completely different and it was nice and I know it took a bit more paper and had just a different style of wrapping. I loved it but could never replicate it. So the measurements and the different angles were so incredibly helpful!! Thank you so much :D Something I've wanted to learn for 12yrs. Subscribed can't wait to check out the rest of ur vids!
That’s really cool! I’d love to see it at full speed just to see how it works! I thought the way that you measured to show the perfect amount of paper was super smart!
the moment when u said....'I'd love to see it at full speed' literally the same meaning as 'yes yes, i understand. no need much explanation, move on'. what a twist woman.
fathima fathma, you have some weird stalker tendencies. You said everything you needed to say in the other comment, didn’t you? I said I would’ve enjoyed seeing it full speed because I was curious how fast she could do it.

I thought this would be great, just what I wanted. It wasn’t. Then I thought it’s not what I hoped for anyway. I’ll find a different one. Then I watched the end and saw the pocket. Now I love it. I also wrap my packages with great care. A cheap wrap and plastic bows are unacceptable to me. A lovely wrap with handmade bows created to match the gift to the recipient. This instruction is perfect. And I’m looking forward to angled ribbon designed to accent that wonderful pocket. Thank you.
I’m so happy I found your tutorial! Finally someone who explains everything and does it at a speed that you can see! I love it! Excellent tutorial! I think I might be able to finally do this wrap. This is the first video I’ve found that explained how to measure the paper. I see this is an older video but I hope you make more! Excellent job and beautiful package! Thank you.
I'm allredy watched those lady on the store who wrapped the paper like this so many times, but still no any single clue how to do that, thanks for sharing I can sleep now
I love this! I always, by default, buy bags and tissue paper because of my horrible wrapping jobs. I have a few gifts ready for this Christmas and tried this out, it took a few tries but I can now do it without holding flaps down with tape and just use the one piece at the end. For those that are salty about this, you don’t have to do it. In a lot of cultures and even just family values, presentation matters just as much as the gift and the best thing about this method is that it all comes out in one piece! Reduce reuse recycle (my family’s frugal, come at me) thank you for this tutorial!! :)
This video is beautifully made and presented targeting a wide range of audience, young and old, english as a second language people, perhaps SEN kids ect so for me, this has to be one of the best video I have seen. I know how much time it takes to edit as well. Now I can’t wait to try this out as Wrapping a gift is as important to me as the gift inside- aesthetic is what I go for. 🙏🏼 Thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks for sharing, this is very neat! Goes to show you don't need but one small piece of tape. People need to learn how to embrace and respect the cultures of others. I was taught if you don't have anything good to say then just keep quiet.
Though it MAY waste a little paper, it shows how the gift-giver REALLY CARES about how he/she wraps the present (s) which they are giving. 😍 Some or maybe even most people don't even CARE about how the "wrapping" looks. This is a wonderful video which shows how the gift-giver really actually CARES about how a present looks when the recipient receieves the present. To me, it shows how the "giver" is thinking MORE about their friends/family members by wrapping the gift very nicely! Great video - keep up the great "wrapping instructions" which, as I said before, show how the "giver" really actually cares about the present, presentation, and, recipient!!! I want to wrap my gifts like this from now on. Very "informative" video to me!!! Thanks, again.
Wow that's the best way to wrap a gift! I have no patience for that right now, but I'll definitely try it the next time I'll be wrapping a gift. It just amazed me how it turned out to be so neat.

We got it hun, it’s just for those purposes, it really made me chuckle because you could FEEL how she wanted to be understood, and I’ve yet to find all the negative comments everyone’s referring to, but I’m assuming people took umbrage with the perceived “waste”?! Ugh, what a silly thing to get cross over, as if regular wrapping isn’t wasteful!
I have to try this next time I wrap a gift. Sadly I found this on christmas day. The measuring is exactly how I did it when I worked in a shop where I did gift wrapping and only had a limited time to do it. The technique was different, but it had to be tight like this. Absolutely love how clear you explained each step and repeated it. The card pocket is just perfect especially for birthdays! Definately saved this vid so I can look back at it.
the species has split. there are the stagnated anthropoid hominids that lack the capacity for Joy /Happiness and cannot discern, they can only believe what they see or are told (they don't read TL:DR), and the advancing homo sapiens sapiens.
Imagine.... its Christmas day, you spend hours learning and mastering how to fold like this. You wrapped every present perfectly. Then.... EVERYONE STARTS VIOLENTLY TEARING THE PAPET YOU SPEND SO MUCH TIME ON! Finally, after all that time you spend wrapping and choosing the perfect gift for each person, they don't even like the gift you got them.
I love the attention to detail. When shopping in Japan I would stand & watch in total awe at their skill, speed & always perfect result (to the point where I purchased random things just to have them wrapped meticulously!). Thank you for an easy to follow lesson. If a gift is special, its worth the time.
I learned something new! I've wrapped so many gifts over the years, usually figuring out methods that require no tape, but I don't think I've done that exact technique. I like how you went about it. I notice at the end that there was on final flap (slightly torn from the tape) and one pocket..... so, couldn't you have just tucked the flap into the pocket, VOILA no tape?
@@nosebleeder2279 yes, but that's what he was talking about. we there was something that looked like a pocket where the last flap could've been tucked in, and the whole wrapping wouldn't require ANY tape at all

I think japan teach us how to reuse wrapping paper once we received one..as it is not cut off..as we open the wrapping paper..it is actually one piece
Siti Sharida ... exactly. You are smart. I can't believe all the negativity in the comment room.
This was extremely instructional, I find it typical to be unsure of what is happening when watching origami or things of that nature, but it was very clear as to what each step was
Almost everything you buy in Japan gets wrapped like this, thanks for teaching us, it is beautiful!
How can I not watch this lovely bubbly young lady wrapping the gifts so beautifully?
Oh my goodness, why have I not watched this yet?! I've watched a TON of gift wrapping videos and read articles on the Japan Wrapping Technique and have never been able to make sense of it even if I somewhat succeeded in doing it! The explanations of how to make sure you have enough paper and how to lay the gift down before beginning helps SO much! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Looking for the bad comments everyone is ranting about like: 🔎👀
Lol me too
maybe its in the bottom part of the comment section
same lol
Usually hate comments are reported as offensive, then RUclips will automatically delete them.
Maybe that's why we can't see any of it
That's what I'm doing
True as hell
Vanna
darling, it's her WAY of doing it that's wasting paper. It's possible to wrap 3 or more of these boxes with this sheet of paper.
@@43Rhein10 Maybe you're more efficient with paper, but most people aren't. They don't usually use the extra pieces unless they actually have gifts small enough to use em. And if they don't, well that extra paper goes to the trash.
@@sotrue5413 because she is wasting paper
@@dieselwolf3005 HOW is she wasting paper
I just realized how good Japanese people are with maintaining things and how they try not to waste a lot. It’s so fascinating. Compared to how I wrap which always ends up with like hundreds of scraps and ripped tape. I love this technique a lot more. Thanks for this vid 👏
2018 the year where people get upset by a woman wrapping a gift.
Arjan h. because it’s a big waste of paper which could’ve been avoided
okayolivia I mean yeah, but wrapping paper period could be considered an avoidable waste and yet...☕ so i don't get why people are not liking the video?
okayolivia Wrapping itself is already a big waste of paper.
Yall act like hardcore no waste lifestyle but the truth is look at your garbage can
It's 2018... did you just assume his or her gender? ;)

I wondered too & the realised I needed to scroll down a bit more. Yikes! The threads from a month ago? Kinda brutal considering it's a demo of a mindful & reusable method of gift wrapping seen frequently in Japanese shoppes, & incorporates Origami & care.

Great demonstration! The 2 different angles of the camera is really helpful. I will be trying this method of gift wrapping soon. Thank you so much for posting your video, Jenny.
Forget the craft.....i am in awe with such a sweet tone of yours and the simplicity of English usage..how beautiful
I kind of have to agree that this is unnecessarily complicated, but I do very much appreciate the culture behind it. I’d be very impressed and honored if I received a present that way. I’m not going to wrap presents this way, but I can appreciate that this is a legitimate way of doing it. :)
Wow, someone can give their opinion and be nice about it? Hmm, this doesn't seem like the Internet I know.
Alexander F. Yeah, I’ve never been a fan of the Internet you know. People are ridiculously toxic.
If you seen her do it like nothing it would take 15 seconds
that is the kind of thing that one should learn and practice - after a few tries, it folds in one breezy moment and looks like magic and easy magic for you, the amazing magician! Thank you!
These instructions are simply FANTASTIC. I'm very grateful for the multiple camera angles, clear and concise instructions, as well as a friendly voice over, intro, and outro (conclusion.) ^_^ I cannot WAIT to give this a try!! Fun fact: I was the designated expert family gift-wrapper for most of my life (age 10 to age 33-ish) and as such, I've always been on the lookout for fun, unique ways of gift-wrapping. This video combines my two interests of origami AND gift wrapping -- and it tickles my OCD for 4-corner neatness -- so this truly, truly looks a treat to execute! Thank you again for sharing such a great easy-to-follow DIY!
This is amazing! I’ve always loved watching the Japanese way of wrapping gifts! It’s so elegant and makes the gift even more meaningful because you take the time to wrap the gift! Amazing job!!
we've got Christmas in about 2 months.....
......im wrapping all my presents like this now so I actually started wrapping in June, hopefully I can finish in time
I did it with a box that was 14" x 20", so it was difficult keeping the wrapping paper from crinkling, but it came out great. Thanks for the step by step. I love this method.
Gift wrapping is an art and master it beautifully, it never ceases to amaze me how many ways a box can be wrapped and turn it into a work of art. Thank you for you tutorial.
This is the best demonstration of this gift wrapping technique on all of RUclips.
Thank you for this! I haven't trying to represent this for years! I miss Japan! I used to love the watch the workers wrap many gifts..really fast! Domo arigato gozaimasu!
I wrap my gifts with perfection also. My whole family raves about my giftwrap skills. For me it is like therapy. I love doing it and making it exactly perfect and beautiful.
Who else come after watching Japanese packaging that 46 sec vid... Or is it only me?
No it's not you alone. I come from there too
Me too
Yep same. Lol but this one has a little bit of mess ups compared to those ones I’ve watched lol cos they’re perfectly wrapped
The wrapping IS the gift! Beautiful.
Finally a tutorial on how to wrap a present nicely.
Some of these comments are insanely hilarious! It must be find-a-flaw-with-gift-wrapping season. People casting stones because their lives are so efficient with paper.
Absolutely fantastic! Perfect narration, perfect process. Thank you and applause!!!
Hey, i just wanted to leave a comment to say i rlly enjoyed this video. I dont rlly understand ppl saying its a waste of paper or time bc if u wrap this way u can reuse the paper again and again, also like u said in the video once u get used to it u can do it a lot faster u were obviously going slow to demonstrate which i super appreciated!!
Thank you !
So wonderful to hear that! Have a great holiday season and happy new year!
Jenny W. Chan - Origami Tree You too !
i love how neat and zero waste this wrapping method is! now im gonna practice this..thankyouu
cute. and I really appreciate the other camera catching it from other angles. really helped.
Hi Belinda, I'm glad you found the multiple camera angles helpful. :):)
Thank you once again.
this method and how's taught is amazing. so clear and beautiful! thanks a mill.
Beautiful :) Japan's so specific when it comes to small things like this.
Fold the left corner of isosceles and make an alineación folding the hypotenuse 🤯.
I thought the way that you measured to show the perfect amount of paper was super smart!
the moment when u said....'I'd love to see it at full speed' literally the same meaning as 'yes yes, i understand. no need much explanation, move on'. what a twist woman.
fathima fathma id like to see it full speed too. And that’s the only thing I mean. Idc what other meanings you might think I have 🙄
fathima fathma, you have some weird stalker tendencies. You said everything you needed to say in the other comment, didn’t you? I said I would’ve enjoyed seeing it full speed because I was curious how fast she could do it.
ldelatorre94, she’s referring to a rude comment she made in another part of these comments. I told her about herself and so now she’s making it her mission to be a loud mouth.
Thank you.
Probably my most favorite gift wrapping video. Outstanding.
I'm mad because I already wrapped all of my Christmas presents almost a month before this video showed in my recommendations.😒
I know this reply is late but your picture says it all
I hope you wrapped them nicely this year!
Same
Wrapping a gift is part of rhe present... Thank you for show me how to wrap a gift.. I always drop it insude a bag. Then put some stuff on top
I'm allredy watched those lady on the store who wrapped the paper like this so many times, but still no any single clue how to do that,
thanks for sharing I can sleep now
What most likely helps you sleep is this fine Ladies gentle voice !
🙏🏼 Thank you 🙏🏼
That is the best wrapping idea I have ever seen. I was just wrapping today wishing there was a more unique way to do it. Thank you Jenny!
Thanks for sharing, this is very neat! Goes to show you don't need but one small piece of tape. People need to learn how to embrace and respect the cultures of others. I was taught if you don't have anything good to say then just keep quiet.
Hear hear 👍👍
Was interested in the difference of wrapping styles. But i could listen to you talk about almost anything. Great voice.
Finally someone who gives the measurements clearly! Thank you
Though it MAY waste a little paper, it shows how the gift-giver REALLY CARES about how he/she wraps the present (s) which they are giving.
Im half Japanese and in Japan everything counts as appreciation
I love this - and the slot for the card very cute!
that is totally cool, wish I'd seen this 54 years ago when I first started wrapping gifts! I'm trying this next time!
This is such a great explanation of gift wrapping. I love how detailed and slow to show all angles. Thanks
Wow that's the best way to wrap a gift! I have no patience for that right now, but I'll definitely try it the next time I'll be wrapping a gift. It just amazed me how it turned out to be so neat.
All you complaining, remember this is "just for demonstration purposes". The real thing would probably use a tiny fraction of that time and paper :P
Cassio Stein LMFAOOO 😂😂
Cassio Stein she said at the start of the video this doesn’t work with more or less paper, she used the exact amount needed

This was a super helpful and easy to follow tutorial, thank you very much

The wrapping paper companies love this method.
Love the fold. Especally sense you can stick a card in it. Good idea. I'm gonna give it a try.

the species has split. there are the stagnated anthropoid hominids that lack the capacity for Joy /Happiness and cannot discern, they can only believe what they see or are told (they don't read TL:DR), and the advancing homo sapiens sapiens.
Imagine.... its Christmas day, you spend hours learning and mastering how to fold like this.
What’s a papet?
I love the attention to detail. When shopping in Japan I would stand & watch in total awe at their skill, speed & always perfect result (to the point where I purchased random things just to have them wrapped meticulously!). Thank you for an easy to follow lesson. If a gift is special, its worth the time.
Japanese pride themselves in efficiency, yet so much more paper is used then what is really needed with this wrapping style.
Omg are you REALLY going to make me unwrap these presents 2 days before Christmas????? This is too awesome not to do.
I know this is a year old, but she used the tape for instructional purposes. The only tape she really needed was the last one.
@@nosebleeder2279 yes, but that's what he was talking about. we there was something that looked like a pocket where the last flap could've been tucked in, and the whole wrapping wouldn't require ANY tape at all
