Superb job Sir. Makes me wish they had Drum Cams on Karen once in awhile so we could watch her playing. I know she smiles down on you for honoring her unmatched Legacy! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏
Awesome. And on this album Karen herself played drums for all the tracks but one, Jambalaya", on the whole album. They were pushed for time to record another quick album between touring so Karen played every song in the studio for this album, given Hal was scheduled for other artists and recordings. Karen was an excellent drummer.
Thanks for the feedback and watching! Karen was an amazing drummer. I didn’t know she play this entire album. Interesting … thanks for the information! 🥁🙏🏻
@Earl Bennett - earldrum yes, all but the one song, "Jambalaya". She played drums on one or more songs for most every album they recorded, especially in the early years. On their first album, "Offering/Ticket To Ride" she is the drummer for the entire album. She played some songs on the "Horizon" album as well, including two of their biggest hits "Only Yesterday" & "Please, Mr. Postman". Most assume every album was always all Hal, but with the Carpenters, no. If they had enough studio time in between touring, Karen generally played one or more songs, too. I love her playing on "Another Song" on the Close To You album. It's so eclectic and changes tempo and sound three times throughout the song. Fabulous drumming. Anyhoo. Enjoy the Carpenters! Karen is still, and will always be, my idol. In 1970, it was extremely rare to see/hear a female drummer! Ha. And you are doing a wonderful job on these covers! Thank you so much for sharing your videos with us. It helps budding drummers like me to watch and learn.
@@SayItAintSo4real thanks for the encouragement! I’ll try to do more, even though I’ve done all of my favorites songs from the albums I owned! I’m glad their music is still inspiring musicians today! 👍🏻🤘🏻
@Earl Bennett - earldrum one of my favs she played, and sang, is "This Masquerade" which is also on the NOW AND THEN album. It's full on jazz, which was Karen's first love. She studied wth Jazz Drummer Bill Douglass in the mid-1960s in Hollywood. Jazz was both her and Richard's true love, but they branched out into the pop sound, which ultimately put them on the map with "Close To You". Joe Morello was her fav drummer when first starting to learn how to play, and later Buddy Rich was added to the mix. You may like her style on "This Masquerade". I love what she's doing near the end of the song on into the fade out. Take care! I've subscribed to your channel now. Love your videos! 😉🥁
You really went above n beyond this is amazing Earl. Camera issues or not playing was TOP! I loved your cover of this . 👍💜🎼🥁🔥🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟✌stay safe my friend
I love this song. It always reminds me of my younger years. Beautiful playing Earl and your cymbals sound awesome!! I could listen to you drum all day every day! 😂
Jessica Greene ... thank you for watching! I agree there is a lot going on ... Hal Blaine played a lot of interesting things that are not easy to duplicate exactly. I tried to get the essence of his playing! 👍🏻🤟🏻✌🏻👊
Thorwald Jørgensen ... I know Karen played on almost every record they made. They typically gave were the non-single songs and she was very inspired by Hal Blaine and his drum kit. It is listed on all music.com that Hal Blaine was on that record as well and it’s been well documented that he played on the majority of their hit songs. So, you may be correct on this song, but I didn’t have the album cover to look at the credits! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for watching. I make all of my drumless tracks using a program called Xtrax Stems 4 when I need it. I don’t keep the stems after I finish a track so I don’t have the “backing track” anymore.
A beautiful performance of a beautiful song. Great work Earl even with the technical hitches. I had a few technical problems too as I went back to the drums today for the first time in over a month. It was not an overly hard song and I thought one take would do but the first three takes came out totally silent and it took me until the fourth take to see what I'd done wrong. Very frustrating.
Andrew Nelson drum covers ... thank you for watching Andrew! Yes, I just played it a bunch of extra times! That’s the youtube creator life! Stay healthy and safe!

Thanks for watching Joe. The details of the kit are in the description. But the drums are mostly Pearl Vintage Fiberglass concert toms. 🙏👍🥁😁

The Paiste cymbals sound so much better than the Zildjians do, and they're great in their own right, but Paiste just sounds better in the the studio
Randy … I love my Paiste cymbals! I agree they record so well!
