Thanks for this! 2018 was the first year I attended the 500 (I was in the Turn 2 grandstand about 2/3 of the way up). I really enjoyed my experience. Hope to get back someday!
Typing this as I watch....So I might miss something....Thank God, people still remember what this day is for. Not one single, over paid athlete there kneeling!! OMG!!!!! TAPS baby....Goosebumps galore.....The B2 was awesome!! Had a squadron of B1s go over the house one time in the first Gulf War. You could not hear them but because they were over the US they had to have their running lights on......It was a sight. Still weird not having Jim Neighbors sing Back Home Again. But this guy did a great job. Big shoes to fill but he did great! ………..Excellent footage. You guys had killer seats. Right where the wrecks normally happen at. Guy I use to work with gets to go every year as a photographer. He actually got to come up inside the pit wall before. They have access that runs under the track. Has some killer photos. One day I pray I can see one in person before my time here is done.....Excellent video. Thank you for the time effort, and for taking us a long
We know how to do it here in Indy! We respect our flag, country and especially our military. Even thought there are over 300,000 people every year at the race, when Taps is played you could hear a pin drop its so quiet. The B2 was awesome and very quiet which surprised me. He did a great job with back home again. Yeah there weren't any wrecks in turn 1 this year. They usually always happen on restarts that's why I filmed all the restarts but of course nothing happened. It would be awesome to be a photographer at the race because of the access you have at that the track. Hopefully one day you can make it up here to see it. Video cameras aren't allowed in the speedway but my wife kinda snuck it in for me. I was the only person recording the race on a real camera. Of course everybody had their phones out but my Cannon video camera takes a lot better HD videos. I almost didn't take it in because if they would have said I couldn't bring it in then I really didn't want to walk all the way back to the car so I gambled and got lucky. Thank you and you are welcome. I hope it gave you a good glimpse of what its like in the stands. I have been a lot of Indy 500's but this was by far the hottest one I have been too.
BTW the Corvette pace car was awesome! Also the Orange Camaro’s the speedway employees drove all month was awesome as well. You could see them lined up in the video when we first walked up. You may not know this but every year the speedway gives all the employees brand new Camaro’s to drive all month to promote the race. Then they go to dealers to sell after the race. I would love to have one of this years cars. You can look it up online to see what it looks like.
ouzo lou you are welcome. The entire month of May the track has something going on. There are so many traditions at the track that most people that don’t live near Indianapolis have no idea even happen.
I wondered how the view was from down there. We were in the A penthouse and it sure was hot in the sun until 1:00pm. Great view from premium seats, if you ever get the chance buy them.
RD I have sat in the penthouse they are great seats. I have pretty much viewed this race from every stand at the track. It’s so much fun to watch this race.
I had wanted to go to the Indy 500 my entire life. This year, my 44th year, I finally made it! We were sitting along the front stretch about 3 rows up straight across from Will Power's pit stall by the scoring tower. The entire day I was just sitting/standing there in a daze...like 'I can't believe I'm actually HERE!" I shot one quick video I posted on here of one of the early laps to show my friends, but mostly I just wanted to soak everything in without thinking about recording it. For those who ask if it's worth it; if you're a fan of motorsport and it's even slightly crossed your mind about going, definitely do it! It's the most legendary race in the world and definitely worth the journey for this amazing experience. Best of all, I made my buddy in St Louis (who I stayed with & took to the race) an Indy 500 fan. So we're going again in 2019 & however many more times we can while we can. Great video & thanks for bringing back memories of not only the highlight of my 2018, but one of the 3 or 4 best days of my life!
ElwoodBruise39 Glad you got to see it first hand! The pre race ceremonies are what make this such a special event. I live about 30 minutes from the track well at least on non race days! Haha About 3 hours on RaceDay. I have been fortunate enough to attend several Indy 500’s and have taken my kids also so they can experience it also. Thanks for watching
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing That's one thing we learned; we got tired of going nowhere in the car, so we took the first parking spot we could find (I figure it was about 2 miles away) and walked there faster than everyone else was driving. Which was a good idea, but was a little rougher considering the 90+ degrees it was (haha)
ElwoodBruise39 Yesbit was one of the hottest ones I can remember! Luckily turn 1 where we sat was in the shade for almost the entire race. We could see turn 4 and they were getting baked the whole race.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing the funny thing is that on our pre-trip shopping spree the night before, we forgot sunscreen. We thought "no problem, we'll just get some on the way." We stopped at every gas station & travel stop Illinois & Indiana had to offer & none of them had sunscreen! Luckily, we bought a small tube for a large price from one of the locals while on that 2 mile trek to the track (lol)
Congratulations on making it. I live close to the Speedway and go every year. Working on my 34th. I love it every year as much as I did the first time. Greatest race course and race in the world.
I’ve been to Daytona, Talledega, and Indy... plus some F1 & Top Fuel & MotoGP races... the only one I keep coming back to is Indy. It’s just... different. The entire environment. The pre-race. The speeds. The sounds. The traditions. The... Spectacle. ❤️
