  • Here's an intro flight given to an airplane pilot in a Schweizer 300CB helicopter by one of Canyon State Aero's CFIs, Trevor, back in January 2020. (Regular viewers of this channel might remember Trevor as the CFI I practiced autorotations with in another one of my videos.)
In this video, they lift off from Mesa's Falcon Field Airport (FFZ) and head out to the practice area east of there. Trevor does a standard intro flight -- the kind they'd do for potential new students -- before returning to the airport. This video includes cockpit chatter as well as all radio communications between takeoff and landing.
Since recording this video, Canyon State Aero was sold; I'm not sure whether its new owners are still operating a flight school. This was shot prior to Covid lockdowns.
To get this video content, I had to split the cost of the demo flight with the student, who was an employee of Canyon State. Many, many thanks to channel members and Patreon patrons. It's your membership dollars that made this flight and video possible. I hope they enjoy their ad-free, 2K version of this video.

    About the Video
    - The video was recorded with a pair of GoPro Hero 7 cameras (amzn.to/2Lxyzwl). One camera is connected to the helicopter's intercom system with an NFlightCam audio cable (amzn.to/31syLTm). All cameras record audio, but I dialed down the helicopter sound by 10 decibels from normal volume so it wouldn't be annoying.
    - Cameras were mounted inside the helicopter using MyPilotPro Spider Swivel GoPro Windshield Mounts (www.mypilotpro.com/product/my....
    - The video was edited on a iMac using Davinci Resolve 16 software. Learn more about it here: www.blackmagicdesign.com/prod...
    - The intro music is by Bob Levitus, famed "Dr. Mac." You can find him here: www.boblevitus.com/
I TRY (really!) to drop cockpit POV videos on Sunday every two or three weeks and "extras" or "shorts" midweek. (Some channel members get early access to these videos.) I also host occasional livestreams with Q&A chats. SUBSCRIBE and turn on the notification bell so you don't miss anything new! And tell your friends. I'm trying hard to deliver good videos and grow my subscriber base.
Some links on my channel are affiliate links, including all links to Amazon (amzn.to/32PLHTD) and MyPilotPro (mypilotpro.com/shop/?wpam_id=13). If you click one of them and buy something, I get a small referral reward. It doesn't cost you anything so I hope you'll shop with one of those links. Thanks.

    Falcon field!
Live 15 minutes away from there.
Mesa is a beautiful city, where the people are friendly and take care of their own!

Maria. That was fun. My first 8 lessons were in a Hughes 300 at JetCopter in Van Nuys back in 87’. I had a high school buddy that was an instructor there. I three control hovered on that first flight. What a rush! Back then, I think it was around $150.00 / hr wet. Thanks for the memory

I love the 269/300C and would like to find one of my own to instruct in. I have years of flight time in heavy helicopters, but the itty bitty ones are so much fun!

What are you using to capture the audio in the head sets? I like that you can also hear the engine noise at the same time. Cool video! Go-Pro?

Does this model have a governor/correlator or do you have to manage RPM? How much are you adjusting? Like a Bell 47 or not that bad?

As they're taking off the instructor says 41 knots is best performance, then says 55 knots is best climb. What's the difference between best performance and best climb?

    • @haz3004
      @haz3004 2 года назад

Best performance is the forward airspeed at which the aircraft has the best angle of climb (aircraft gains the most amount of altitude over the shortest distance over the ground) and best climb is the forward airspeed at which the aircraft has the best rate of climb (aircraft gains the most altitude in the least amount of time)
