If everyone could draw in photo realism, I still doubt most people would. Stylization is kind of the point, and AI lacks a unique style because it's trained on other people's art. It's probably because:
1. The term caught on, and it is descriptive to what it is well enough.
2. Art is not some defined term, you cannot define a descriptor by what that descriptor does not extend to. Art as a word is used to describe pretty much any kind of image at this point, in other words, art vs 'Art'.
3. It's much less effort than saying "image generated by a generative ai."

It really depends on your career.
Even as a musician you can try to capitalize and work on your capabilities to earn money in various ways.
I believe people working in corporate advertising will have their creative opportunities crippled by ai. I have a friend that's studying art in media, and they're hired in a corp which uses generative AI extensively, for the purpose of increasing output capacity. I think that will negatively impact the broad environment as it's rather interconnected.
People used to say the same thing about photography or digital art. Takes like yours are going to be quietly discarded as time goes on
I might be wrong but, after this photographer confessed it wasn't AI, the judges disqualified him but had no grudge toward him, and instead understood and appreciated the message he brought. Kinda wholesome.

I think I was kinda dumb not to say it before but- I’m not in the AI image community, I am a med student, my comment was just my view as an outsider about how the AI people seem more grounded and chill while the other party is very harsh, specifically when it comes to debates and sharing opinions.
I’m just someone who is interested in how tech is evolving, as it’s clearly shaping a new era, however I do not have much knowledge on specific topics

@VitaeLibra probably because these aren't people in big tech or whatever, these competitions are held by actual artists interested in art as a tool for artists. In art academia there is a group of artists who view ai in a similar vein to photography vs realistic art, as a new way to express an idea with it's own ups and downs. Regardless of whether or not you agree with them, they do exist.
I'm fairly certain the joke was that those are words overused by AI... Not that they actually said that.

Not really, it's an art form like any other. Public perception of AI art is just "type few words and get cool image" but if you want to have an actually good looking result that makes sense visually, you'll have to spend a lot of time on it. Not to mention Controlnet and other tools that increase your control over the output

AI art competitions is like bringing an artist with you, tell him/her what to draw, and then collect his/her artwork, then present it as yours and win some prize or awards for it.

I hate the fact that an AI art competition is even a thing- like how is there supposed to be a competition based on how well and how skillful a person can make a piece of art, but no one is actually making the art and it’s the most fake looking photograph or picture that takes credit away from the people who actually drew the art that got put into the AI system

If a real photo is disqualified from an ai competition, ai photos should be disqualified from a real photo competition
As an artist, ai art is not an attack on artists, the art community will find other jobs that work well, and fine art will remain largely unaltered. Just how there are still farmers in a world with tractors and combine harvesters. Perhaps we will find better ways of identifying ai art, which could place a much higher value on art made by humans. That's the beauty of human ingenuity, we think the things we create are our undoing, when really they're the path towards development and change. This mistrust in man's own creation is what I find so beautiful.

I think it says that the creators of the REAL art competitions might have not set rules that you can't use AI art. Where as in AI art competitions the rule is already in the name. If it was not allowed to use AI art, those entries would get dq'd all the same.

Not really. This image has even more heart after you realize it’s real. Someone went out into the world and found a flamingo like that. AI can’t replicate that. The reveal honestly made it better imo

So who gets the awards in these competitions? Whatever AI was used to make the art? I love how we're rewarding people for asking a machine to do their work for them.

They should disqualify AI ART!!!!
I don't understand how people can be impressed with AI art/photography in this way (other than the strength of the technology, but this only lasts a second for me). Once I know an image is AI generated I'm immediately unimpressed and it completely loses all meaning
