I think that,if it was birth time for the sheep,fox would be much more agressive with little lambs,and very dangerous for them.But keeping one or two big guard dogs,as farmers doing in the continent,is not a big trouble,to avoid casualties from foxes and badgers.
The sheep have no interest in a fox in the field, as they see the fox as no threat. However if a domestic dog goes into the field, they are not so relaxed. Foxes are mainly after frogs, worms, rabbits, birds, eggs and young chicks. I don't think they would even attempt to pick a fight with a sheep.
United States has two types of fox the gray fox which is an American Fox the red fox which was brought over by the English to hunt and Chase that's why America has the red fox they also brought over the bird the starling and the house sparrow all immigrants
