Thank you Rick and Korbin for this video. I am from Odisha and I feel proud that you got introduced to our culture. Lord Jagannath is considered as a living God in the hindu culture. Rath Yatra is a chariot festival where Lord Jagannath along with his elder brother Lord Balabhadra and sister Devi Subhadra visit their aunt's house. This happens after they recover from a fever that they had got while bathing. You might have noticed in the video that the Lord bathes in 108 pitches of water. So after having bath in such a huge amount of water, any person would have fever. Hence, Lord Jagannath like any other normal person got fever and after his recovery, he went to his aunt's house on a chariot (rath). The chariots are made fresh every year and rath yatra is held every year. After rath yatra, the chariot is dismantled and the wood is used in the Royal kitchen for preparing food for the devotees. Nabakalebar or the making of new bodies of the devotees occur after every 19 years. Like a normal person, Lord Jagannath is believed to leave his old body and reincarnate his soul in a new body. This reincarnation happens every 19 yrs. I hope I could clear some of your doubts. Jai Jagannath
When the idols are changed every 12 years, the heart of lord Krishna will be placed in a unique way from the old idols to the new idols and nobody's allowed to see the heart as it's dangerous to human perception!!
This year it happened with all social distancing maintained no general public was allowed. Only the servitors who tested negative for Covid 19 were allowed to pull the chariot. One among them who tested positive prior to the Rath Yatra wasnt allowed near the festivities and was admitted in a hospital. Puri was shut completely for 72 hours. There was police protection everywhere. Even near the Rath's or Chariots.

Hey guys I am from Odisha. Thank you for your reaction on Lord Jagannath and Ratha yatra. This year due to covid 19 there was uncertainty about the festival but atlast it happened yesterday on 23rd June. Every year around 5-10 million people gather in Puri to observe this festival. This is the most important festival for all of the people of odisha.
This video is all about religious things...but a great fact is "Puri" is a only place in the world where Science fails only Lord Jagganath works.. Please react to amazing facts about : "Jagganath Puri"
Good comment. I would like to add that science works due to Jagannath. In Bhagavad Gita He says, "There is no truth superior to Me. Everything rests upon Me, as pearls are strung on a thread." B.G. 7.7 In a necklace, we can see pearls. But we don't usually see the string which holds it together. Similarly, God or Jagannath is unseen within the mysterious tapestry of nature itself. He holds all of it together while pervading everything and all existence. One of His names is Visnu. Meaning all pervading. (Sort of like the Force for Star Wars nerds out there. Except the Force is simultaneously a person as well). Being the Absolute or Final Truth God is simultaneously personal and impersonal. Somewhat like a government which is largely impersonal with departments and systems but headed ultimately by a person. President, prime minister, king, etc. So, whom we are looking at is the Supreme Person. Scientific laws work underneath Him, and work or fail as to His sweet desire.

The word juggernaut comes from the Hindi 'Jagannath' meaning 'lord of the world'. The word is further derived from the Sanskrit 'jagati' meaning 'he goes' and 'natha' meaning 'master'. The word juggernaut first appeared in Western writing around 1321 but didn't become a common English word until the early 19th century.
The olden idols of the 4 deities are buried underground in srimandir and that land is planted with trees... Thanks for watching our old and great tradition of Odisha. Jai Jagannath
Its known as "NABA KALEBARA" Not exactly 19 years. It can vary from 8 to 19 years. It's the year when the full moon occurs twice during the month of "Ashadha". Last time changed was in the year 2015.

To answer Korbin's question it takes around 2 months by the carpenters to create the Chariots. Because Akshaya Tritiya mostly falls in April and they being traditional carpenters know the art of Chariot creation very well. And can create the chariots with ease because that is how they serve the Lord.
19 years are not important. The thing is when there's two amabasyas in a month it's called a mall mas . If the month of Aashara happens to be mall mas, then this ritual of nabakalebara is performed.

Fun fact: This is where the word "Juggernaut" is derived!!! Because the "rath" or cart when being drawn, is very difficult to stop. So a lot of people will die due to this. Hence , the Britishers called it "Juggernaut"
Juggernaut means a powerful and overwhelming force actually the Britishers didn't understand what was the main reason that people flocked to Puri and they got to know about Lord Jagannath thus they created a word "Juggernaut" meaning powerful and overwhelming force.

No foreigners or muslims are allowed in to enter the temple. As there is a prophecy that in future one great devotee will come from foreign land and Lord Jagganath will go with him. But Lord Jaggnath(meaning in English Lord of Universe) is very merciful. He comes out of his home and give opportunity to all people to see him. Its believed if any human get to see this Rath Yatra once in his lifetime and render some service to Lord. His soul will get liberation, not born in material world. And will get free path to spiritual world to God's home. I am happy 😊, I got such opportunity. Due to effort of ISCKON, now Rath Yatra festivals are celebrated all over the world.
Rath Yatra is being done this year, despite the social distancing rules. The Lord can never be stopped. It happened only once when the Mughals were ruling.

Thank you so much. I was making big plans last year to visit Puri and Orissa. God willing I will make it one day.
When the idols are changed every 12 years, the heart of lord Krishna will be placed in a unique way from the old idols to the new idols and nobody's allowed to see the heart as it's dangerous to human perception!!
It think Korbin was expecting Roman Chariots from the movie Gladiator... 😂😂
Hahahahah
This year it happened with all social distancing maintained no general public was allowed. Only the servitors who tested negative for Covid 19 were allowed to pull the chariot. One among them who tested positive prior to the Rath Yatra wasnt allowed near the festivities and was admitted in a hospital.
Puri was shut completely for 72 hours. There was police protection everywhere. Even near the Rath's or Chariots.
"social distancing maintained"?? Are you fuckn kiddn me man? Have you seen the pictures? Religious idiocy should have taken a back seat because pandemic doesn't care about your religion.
@@extremiztic I think you have seen pictures of last year ,check the latest pictures bro, only 500 ppl that too were tested for corona before going for yatra, social distancing was properly maintained.
@@extremiztic I ain't kidding , dont try to teach me I have seen the entire live from start to finish. The servitors who were pulling the chariots literally bowed down from head to toe in front of the chariots when Jagannath's chariot reached the Gundicha temple last. All the servitors had tested negative for Corona and then they were allowed to perform the rituals. You must have seen last years video that you are claiming shit. Since I have seen this festival being celebrated I have never seen Puri so empty during Rath Yatra neither had anyone older than me. So next time mind your language when you reply. And talk using facts. And always remember you are no one to question any religious practice if you yourself don't believe in it. The Supreme Court allowed the festival to happen just the evening before the Rath Yatra day. You know more than law?? Had social distancing not been maintained the police on duty would have complained about not following the rules.
@lipu swain yes come with facts.
Lol.....
@lipu swain ale...bro.....kya bol raha he....
Please react to amazing facts about :
"Jagganath Puri"
Good comment. I would like to add that science works due to Jagannath.
In Bhagavad Gita He says, "There is no truth superior to Me. Everything rests upon Me, as pearls are strung on a thread."
B.G. 7.7
In a necklace, we can see pearls.
@@soubhagyanayak3098 wow thats so good to know more thank you!!😊
Jagannath is Lord Krsna, the Lord of the universe.
Jagat means universe, Nath means Lord.
Yes please
Lol
The English word "juggernaut" actually originated from its association with Lord Jagannath and this overwhelming chariot festival of Rath Yatra.
It gives me immense pleasure to tell you I am from Odisha. Thank you so much for covering Rath Yatra. This has a deep connect with all Odia souls. Stranded far away in Bangalore, watching Rath Yatra on tv made me break down into tears. Rick, I am sure you can get lots of details from Indrani. All Bengalis have a deep connect with Puri, the location of the Rath Yatra.

Not thousands, atleast a million each year flock to Puri barring this year due to Supreme Court restrictions.
If you can observe the festival, there is a way lot in the Hindu culture about the relationship of husband and wife.,
Even the God is not entered inside the temple if he went out without acknowledging his wife Lakshmi ❣️

Hey, Love from Odisha here.. Wish you a Happiest Birthday Korbin❤ And to Rick's question, they never get dismantled. They get buried inside the temple premises before dawn. It happened after 19 years this time. Jai Jagannath 🙏
Nabakalebara or creation of new idols of the deities last happened in 2015 not this year. while Rath Yatra happens every year, it is an old video ma'am.
@@sushreepadhi I know Mam. I was talking about the last time it happened. The year gap was 19years. I nowhere mentioned that it happened this year.

Thank you.
Not *Hindi its *Odia
Yes, it's odia my friend
@@MrSuryakanta344 Jagannath is originally Sanskrit neither Hindi nor Odia go check it.
Hindi is 200 years old, Odia & festival is way older than that🤷♂️

The festival is celebrated every year. The idols are changed after every 19 years. This year the idols are going to be changed.
already done in 2015
Deities are already replaced last year. Where were you???
@@maverickhot In 2015 actually not last year
Its known as "NABA KALEBARA"
Not exactly 19 years. It can vary from 8 to 19 years. It's the year when the full moon occurs twice during the month of "Ashadha".
Last time changed was in the year 2015.
Humble request..
Hii sir....
I am an Indian....
And i am a big fan of both of you....
Plzz sir react on shreya ghosal's "mere dolna sun" song..... It's just a mind blowing song ......plzz sir...just listen this song...
I’m very lucky n happy for being a part of this festival.. Jay Jagannath 🙏🏻
It was celebrated this year with restrictions. We saw it on TV.
To answer Korbin's question it takes around 2 months by the carpenters to create the Chariots. Because Akshaya Tritiya mostly falls in April and they being traditional carpenters know the art of Chariot creation very well. And can create the chariots with ease because that is how they serve the Lord.
Nabakalebara is when Lord's physical body dies and he occupies a new wooden body. It occurs once in 19 years
19 years are not important. The thing is when there's two amabasyas in a month it's called a mall mas . If the month of Aashara happens to be mall mas, then this ritual of nabakalebara is performed.
An interesting fact is that the devotees can abuse the Gods playfully on behalf of Maa Laxmi's anger too.
It has been banned in Puri long ago..
But its still been followed some in parts of the Odisha..
Thats our beautiful and holy festival.. Every Odia's heart beats for lord Jagannath.. We lovingly call him as Jagga, Bada thakura, Kalia.💗 Jay Jagannath Swami, Nayan patha gami bhabah tume.
This happened yesterday with some restrictions and India's supreme court had to consider this as an exception.
Hello, I am from Odisha... Thank you guys for making this video. Really appreciate the effort... If you ever come to Odisha please let us know.. we will be delighted to have you here...
It is Rath Yatra...
Rath means Chariot and yatra means festival. It is the biggest festival in Odisha. Yes it was celebrated yesterday here in Puri. But it was celebrated with keeping the social distancing in mind. No persons were allowed to attain the festival. It was only done by the priest and the Police force . The Chariots were pulled by the priests instead of common people.
Yes.. odisha celebrated Rath Yatra this year without devotees... only deities and police personnel are present at the event... i am a Armed Soldier of Odisha Police Department and its was really a golden opportunity for me that I was present their and performed my duty their...🙏
You are blessed sir to get this experience.
Really blessed 🙏
You're lucky and blessed by the Lord.
Sir I love this festival and iam great devotees of jagannath temple my life was totally change when I see lord jagannath murti iam so lucky
Jaggan Nath Ka juggernaut Kar dia?😯
@@swatisaini6447 Yeah that's how the Britishers pronounced it.

Lord Juggernaut
Lord Jugger Nut
A massive insane piece of wood.
Devotees thowing themselves under chariot's wheel.
They started calling him blood thirsty NUT.
Its a tricky word coined by them to offend our religious sentiment.
And I'm not going to argue over it.
No one can change my mind on this.
My grandmother used to say that if you love your siblings with the purest heart you receive the precious glance from lord Jagganatha.........ie instead of just you looking at him he also looks at you 👰
The chariots are made each year.
The last note on the making after 19 years is for the Deities.

Orissa changed to Odisha a long time back.Your fan from Odisha
The deities are changed(wood) every 19years but the Rath Yatra happens every year.
They also plant trees every year ..as they cut trees(govt permission are taken so planting tree is good) -for some one who is worried about the trees
No... The gods bodies are changed every 19 years... The idols are made of wood... So due to wear and tear, they change their idols...
The Brahma while remaining the same just replaces bodies ( The wood idols) just like us human beings.
