She’s the best. I’ve been following her for some years. I’m not sure if you still make videos or what happened, but you literally answered. Every question I needed to be answered. Thank you so much.
I 100% recommend cutting a square in the front and then covering it with a clear sheet of plastic (apoplexy glass works great for this or you can use glass from a picture frame) Then add a thermostat that shows temperature and humidity. It is extremely important to make sure the temperature/humidity doesn't go too high or too low.
hey Steff J I know you have had this video up for a while now but I got the chance to build one and incubate 23 Eastern River Cooter eggs. yesterday 3 hatched and i still have at least 8 more that are developing well. they are the size of a quarter.
Don't forget to tell people not to rotate the eggs and place them the exact way they were when pulling them out. A felt tip marker should be used to mark the top.
thank you this was so helpful!!! i have everything to make the incubator! My female will be ready in about a month or so!!! Thank you i pray to have babiesss!!!
I made mine similarly but with a short piece of heat tape instead of the tank heater hooked to a dinner switch. That way you don't need water and can just adjust the moisture in each individual container for whatever species you're incubating(I use it for colubrids, geckos, and turtles). This one will be great for aquatics, though.
eggs laid in the water are generally not viable. But if you do have a male and there's a chance of fertilization, get them out immediately as the egg will drown. It's never a bad idea to go ahead and try to save them and incubate em.
3 months ago a red ear slider laid eggs in my yard . Dug a hole in hard clay soil . The drought has made the soil hard as a rock . Yesterday I delicately dug to the eggs and some were hatching . I moved the clutch in a bucket and buried them in potting soil .Placed the bucket on a heating pad set to medium . Four have hatched . I moved them to a plastic tub with an inch of water and an island . Am I messing up ? The closest water source is a creek about 75 yds away and across a busy street . I plan on releasing them , maybe keep a couple as pets . I dont think they would have been able to dig themselves out of the baked clay soil and make it to the creek .
Thanks for the idea I didn't have a real incubator and my snakes had eggs ( I wasn't sure if the new one was a male) but that confirmed it lol. I made this within 4 hours ( I had complications with the materials) and changed it a little by putting a thermohydro meter in the container with the eggs in peat moss and in exactly 2 months of letting humidity out twice a day and wiping off mold I can proudly say I have 20 new baby corn snakes :D only 2 didn't fully develop but that's not bad so I'm glad you put this Idea up because I don't think that wouldn't been possible otherwise thank you again and as an update the 20 hatchlings (some) ate their first meal tonight after a few weeks of giving them the chance too I'm so happy!
Looks like the tank is progress for a salt water tank? Always a good idea to cycle the rock to avoid any ammonia coming off it. Salt water is amazing but a lot of work.
I’m trying to cross breed my eastern painted with my Mississippi map but, did you have to keep adding water to the soil while they were in there or did it stay moist? How long does it usually take and do you know if these two kinds can cross
I love your turtle videos😍😍😍. In the future can you make a video about what you feed your turtles. I personally have 1 red eared slider and some other pets but only one turtle. Thank you for reading!
Hello, I am trying to incubate tortoise egg in home made incubator. Humidity is about 75%. But I have to almost open the lid. Do you think that it is ok when the humidity is not changing and temperature is 29°c with almost opened lid. Or i should try make more holes and let it closed? I don't know what to do.
Hey I made one these incubators at home just wanted to know did your incubator form a bit of mould on the container that the eggs are in because mine has just started to know can you please let me know if I'm doing anything wrong please
My pair of reeves turtle are mating. How would i know if it's successful? My females reeves is in a refrigerator tub outdoor enclosure with a male wbt and yst. They have a basking platform with lots of soil (mostly moist) and she loves digging to rest. How would I know if she will be laying eggs?
@Stedd J Hello Steff, I have a question, How long was your turtles incubation period? Btw, thanks for sharing this information with us, my turtle laid an egg and is on his/her way to be born at the end of July this year!
I tried thermocol incumbator as per your video, but water coming r egularly from thermocol and filing gap daily, is it right way? Pl advise immediately
Can someone who knows please answer a turtle question I have? I have painted turtle eggs that I’ve had since the first or second week of June and I candle them every couple days. When I put the light on the bottom of the egg the top half is black and there is a lot of movement inside. I have no idea what it’s supposed to look like when they’re about to hatch or how to know if they’re really close to hatching? The whole egg isn’t dark just about half of the egg is and it looks like they’re moving there limbs or something when I candle them
Thanks, you save me. I just happen to see her laying 5 eggs. Then I rush watch your video, buy heater, plastic container, stereo foam box and soil. I hope they are Hatch and strong
I don't know why, but peoples say reptile eggs can shrinking if the nest is too hot and not enough water to keep the egg hydrate. It also work on lizard and other reptile with soft Shell eggs, RES eggs is also soft Shell
Hi I'am Alex Animals and Gardens . As I understood it needs a sertain temperature to become male . And a sertain temperature for female . Do you do that ?
Hey I really need help so there was a turtle crossing the rode so me and my dad stopped and picked her up and brought her home it was late so we were going to drop her off at a pond the next day I wake up and she has laid a single egg in the water I don’t know what to do with it

Hello ive been watching ur vlogs for a lil bit now. i just took over care of a baby RES Its been about 2 1/2 weeks since i got him / her. it just wont eat anything its like its afraid of food ive tried almost everything putting her in a smaller container to see if that would be easier I tried a piece of hotdog ..still nothing the baby is still thriving but not eating i dont know what to do. PLEASE HELP
HELLO PLEASE HELP ME: i have the same turtles and one of them is pregnant with eggs . how do i know when shes gona drop them? i have stones on the bottom and im afrayd that theyre gona breake 😫😥
Get a nesting area with sand. Also, if there is no male, the eggs won't be fertile anyway so don't stress too much, even if they are good eggs and have been fertilized and they don't make it you will always get more chances.
Ur method works great. I tried since 2 weeks and babies r xoming one by one. But there is a trick with the heater. It doesnot maintain the said temperature. Something needs to be regulated within the heater.
She’s the best.
I’ve been following her for some years. I’m not sure if you still make videos or what happened, but you literally answered. Every question I needed to be answered. Thank you so much.
I have an outdoor pond and my biggest female layed 12 eggs and all of the babies survived.
depending on temps outside and if the turtles are native to your location they can do their own incubating like in the wild.
xhellboundx yeah I was surprised they survived lol they are also red ear sliders.
oh Adrien they are pretty hardy
oh Adrien I
ADRYAN my snapping turtle laid eggs and 8 survived I kept one
Thanks Steph, your DIY incubator saved my turtles life
my hybrid Mississippi map turtle and RES Turtle might hatch now! it has never hatched before
OMG MR DANKK
At first I thought the thumbnail said "quick and tasty" and I was scared

My uncle joked when I was showing our turtles “oh they’re big enough? Now we can cook them!” Of course .. I was mortified

I wish I had as many animals as you I'm getting a cat soon yay
Yay I hav asthma so I can't have furry cutebois but I ow a tortoise so yay

Good for you!,
what if they lay the eggs in the water like mine does? can you catch them and do the same?
The hatchlings instinct isn't swim so they can drown
eggs laid in the water are generally not viable. But if you do have a male and there's a chance of fertilization, get them out immediately as the egg will drown. It's never a bad idea to go ahead and try to save them and incubate em.
Alan Palmer what about if they were half way water? Say shallow water not completely covered but halfway?
Thank you for the video, you are super loving mom for turtle, great work you've done, very easy to follow with easy tools.. thank you
Imagine your sibling accidentally kicked the incubator and the eggs fell and then you can't do anything but cry yourself to sleep
That's when you know it's time to drop them off at the orphanage
@@bigsam8597 🤣🤣🤣 yep!
That's a really good idea and saving more money , thanks for sharing .
Hi Steff, can i replace the soil with mix vermiculate+perlite? and how long it takes to hatch? thank you ^_^
