'She's not allowed on our bed' - you're so funny Soph... it's only a matter of time till you realise the bed and the house belongs to the dog. The sooner you come to terms with it, the better.

Dogs sleeping on their back is usually an indication that they feel safe, because they are at their most vulnerable when their belly is exposed. So take it as a compliment, Pinky must feel very safe with you!

Really, my questions would have been:
    1) why is Pinky so adorable?
    2) does Pinky know she is a good girl?
    3) does Pinky know we love her as much as you?
    4) what are her plans for world domination?

when we first got our family dog, Max, my dad said the following: he will not be allowed on the sofa, sofa chair, our beds or even upstairs. 11 years later, Max has his own sofa chair, sleeps upstairs with my parents and has jumped up many a times on our beds

    • @katemellifont4078
      @katemellifont4078 3 года назад +1

My last family dog was an “outside” dog - we had a laundry that was connected to the house but that had its own door to the yard, so that was his “house”. (I live in a hot part of Australia, so we don’t get any really cold weather). My dad was firm that he wasn’t meant to be inside...and then he got arthritis so he was allowed inside for winter evenings... then summer evenings... 😂😝

    • @katemellifont4078
      @katemellifont4078 3 года назад +1

Also my dog is a rescue and she wasn’t allowed on our bed. Then we saw on the pet camera that she got a scare when we were out and went and hid on our bed under our PJs 😫 it was so cute, we immediately gave in lol. She’s an inside dog, so she’s pretty clean luckily!

When we got our family dog, my mum (who we took a while to convince) said not allowed on sofa or upstairs. Yeah next day she was on the sofa having a cuddle then once she was crate trained she was allowed upstairs. 9 years later she goes between everyone’s bedroom and chooses where she wants to sleep!

For people who are hoping to adopt but maybe don’t have as much time as home or are not experienced dog owners, look for older dogs! There are dogs who have come from loving homes and are a bit trained already and just need a new family. We got our dog at about 4 years old - she was already toilet trained, knew how to walk on a lead. She had puppies in her past life, so she’s now a very chill and lazy retiree. We’ve continued her training and she’s settled in perfectly. We call her a baked potato cause she’s that lightly toasted colour and just likes to curl up for cuddles

So right Kate. Both Golden Retrievers I’ve had were rescued Seniors - 10 yrs old. Of course I didn’t have them as long as if I had them since puppies but Murphy lived until 18 and Sam until 16. At the beginning of the year I was working with the Golden Retriever Rescue of Michigan to adopt or foster another GR, then unfortunately due to the pandemic they stopped the process for adoptions/fostering. So now I’m even looking out of state. Fingers crossed. 🤞🏻

Defo take toys away from her if she destroys the otherwise she'll start chewing everything and you'll lose shoes and everything! teaches her that ripping stuff apart isn't the aim of the game, chewing and playing yes, but destroying no, always replace wit with something she can shew straight away, just conditions her to know what okay and what's not, from someone who has grown up with cheeky puppies everywhere x

I'm also from Romania and unfortunately we have a problem with stray dogs and cats. People here are not educated to neuter their pets (especially in the rural area) and when they have puppies people just abandon them 😔 It's very sad unfortunately 😣

My mum and dad after our westie passed away in 2015 rescued a greyhound called douglas and he was 3, he was an ex racer and never had long periods of being in a home environment, he is so loved and spoilt and fills our heart with such joy and is a gentle giant who is literally scared of his own shadow😂 he is so perfect and couldn’t wish for a dog better🥺 the best feeling is knowing that you’ve given a rescue dog the best life ever for the rest of it’s life❤️

  • @lostxnikky_1489

You did the right thing to take the toys away if they start falling apart by her chewing them. Dogs tummies aren't the greatest when it comes to digesting things like that. We had a dog at our work chew a towel and ended up pooping towel chunks which caused their tummy to become upset. You are doing an amazing job with her. And she is the cutest thing ever 🧡

We’ve got a 4 month old cocker spaniel puppy that will eventually be a working dog, we always take her toys away as soon as they start to come apart, 1 to stop her from eating the pieces and 2 to stop her from forming a habit of destroying them! 😊

You're so happy!! BTW when we got our dog as a puppy, he was crate trained, and when he was 2 we took the crate away and he proffered it. He obviously felt safer in there, but when we moved house (he was age 3) we didn't introduce the crate in the new house. I thought this was worth telling you so when you decide to remove the crate, dont be worried if its bad reaction for her. Love you and your little family 🤍

The double lead is to teach them not to pull. So you attach a lead to the back of the harness and the second lead to the front of their collar so then when they pull you forward, you gently pull on the lead that’s attach to the collar and it will turn the dog. So eventually the dog will learn that when they pull they’ll be stopped and moved into a direction they didn’t want to go, and so will stop pulling. We used a similar method with out dogs, when they pulled we would turn around and go the opposite direction and they learnt that pulling did them no favours and they would go the opposite way to what they wanted. Now they just walk beside us 😊

Barks alot but that's what dogs do!! She chewed a bit of kitchen table had to get a new one but mustard REALLY HELPED!! We didn't use a crate but I do recommend one alot!! She is a pretty big dog she sheds all year round she sheds so much her breed is a collie cross with black lab!!

Let her on the sofa for cuddles, I didn't let my dog on the sofa because he used to shed alot, he had sudden kidney failure this June & passed away, he was 13years 6 months, I planned to let him on the sofa for cuddles in his older years but that didn't happen so I really regret that 😢, but he did have his own sofa & 3 dog beds. He was my baby & miss him terribly 🐾🐾🐾🐾

    Pinky is a sweetheart,
With the potty training the best tip I got with my dog was just take them out every 2-3 hours during the day and trying not to let the pup nap before bed time, kinda keep them playing and this is meant to help them sleep through the night so they don’t wake up and have an accident in the middle of the night.
Or you could set an alarm for the middle of the night to take the pup out for a wee break sometime that can encourage the habit of not sleeping through the night

    i highly recommend many tears!
my parents rescued our 3 legged cockerpoo from many tears, they’re an incredible rescue place. they take in a lot of puppy farm dogs from ireland. our cockerpoo had to have her leg amputated after being hit by what we think was a train, the owner refused to pay for it so many tears took her in and paid for her surgery and check ups! they only asked for a donation fee which is usually just to cover a pet passport if they’re coming from ireland. also if you can’t adopt from many tears, their facebook page has an amazon wish list link on there and during the winter months they struggle for blankets, food, toys etc as it is all charity work and rely heavily on donations.

I hope this is of some help to you. They are more expensive then general toys but I think they are worth the money as they are more safe for the dog as my dog has got so many different ones from Kong even a tug of war style one which he loves to bits! Tbh I used to get annoyed when my pets chewed things, and I mean it’s still annoying but after they’re gone it’s like a cute reminder of them so now I’m not as fussed, and as long as it’s not really expensive to replace I’m not too worried, like my bunny likes eating cables no matter how much I protect them and put them out of the way and wrap them up, which is annoying but in the end she’s worth all the annoyance of randomly losing cables

Thats such a shame😔Here in the Uk,they vet you to make sure the poor animal isnt going to be put through more stress or abuse.Unfortunately thats not always the case but on the whole rescue dogs usually go to their forever homes because the homes and owners have to go through checks to make sure they are appropriate. My parents got a little staffie cross and I think they paid £150 from a rescue centre.I think that new owners should still have to pay a fair amount so that people have to think twice before getting one and it not being abandoned again and also to help the shelters out.

I think this sounds more like a pound. We have those too, most council areas will have one but usually if the dogs can't be placed straight away they are passed to the rescue centres. My puppy came from the pound and they did no checks at all.

That sounds like council pounds in the uk, my grandparents got their dog from one of them and the entire adoption process took about fifteen minutes

@@annarose8253 yeah I was really disappointed at how easy it was to adopt my Rosie. I thought they'd at least ask some questions like the rescue my sister got her dog from but they literally asked nothing!

@@pninny yeah like my grandparents only decided they were getting a dog that day, and while that was fine for them (they’ve had dogs for the entire 50+ years they’ve been together so they know how to look after them and had dog stuff already) I worry that people could just impulsively take dogs home and not be prepared to look after them properly

My parents recently got a cockerpoo puppy, she's absolutely gorgeous and such a joy after losing our last dog in February. From April they knew they wanted another dog and we debated the name for a solid 6 months during the Mum's pregnancy and the first few weeks before we got her home. Thought as a family we named her Honey....Mum and Dad come home and they changed her name last minute to Mitsy. Which was not on the exhaustive list! Somehow she just suits it though.
Chewing tip! Use old plastic bottles on the legs of chairs and tables to stop her destroying them!

I also have a rommie rescue and the reality is they'll all be more than two breeds more than likely and they have all sorts of different breeds round Eastern Europe so it's probably completely different than pedigree breeds. Also they do change as time goes on especially as pups - mine was an angel first few weeks and then the naughty pup behaviour sets in including the incessant barking 😂

Ugh I love her so so much! 😍 every time I see her it makes me want to rush home to cuddle my Gracie 🥰
Gracie is small, only around 8 pounds, but she’s a big chewer too! We get her the Kong Floppy Knot toys & they are nicknamed her “baby” lol. They are mostly rope with fabric over them to look like an animal & have squeakers in the head & belly. It’s Gracie’s favorite & we get her a new one every Christmas 💗

And I think you did the right thing with throwing the toys she destroyed away - especially with a small pup like Pinky it’s such a choking hazard, we don’t even keep the toys my dog has ripped to bits and she’s a Labrador! The point of a dog toy is not to destroy it 🤣

I understand why they are strict with the criteria for rescue dogs however Many Tears make it’s extremely difficult for you to adopt a dog. I don’t understand it. We live local to the shelter and they are completely over run with dogs. We have showed interest many times and it’s just so difficult to fit in to such ridiculously right criteria. The not working full time part baffles me. These shelters will always be over run because majority of people work for a living x

Hey Soph, if you want to know the breed of Pinkie you can always do a doggy DNA test - I have done some research and seems the Wisdom Panel DNA kit is the best. This will tell you the mix of breeds in her and also any underlying health conditions that associates with her highest % breed(s)
Also if you do decide to look into this, I'd love to see you make a video around it :) xx
