Rik Mayall is just great. He plays the naive, nervous, hyperactive character perfectly. There isn't a person alive who could play this type of role and it's tragic he died at the age of 56. Rik and Ade really were the best of friends a great meeting of minds that comes across in Bottom. He is missed.
The note that his flowers at Rik Mayal's grave said "Why did you leave me you bastard, what am I supposed to do now". Heartbreaking
Esther Rantzen is a British TV presenter who used to present a show called That’s Life, used to show weird and wonderful people, weird hobbies, misprints etc, hence Eddie’s comment about the misprint. She has quite big teeth and gums, hence their choosing to call the drink after her because of its effects when you drink it! You’ll hear the boys referring to Sue Carpenter sometimes, usually in a horny way 🤣, she was a news anchor in the 80s and 90s. Great video!

I was far too young to be watching The Young Ones (which I wish you would cover) but Bottom is my childhood in a nutshell.
...I was too young, myself - but I saw it anyway (Australia - it was a smash hit here...repeated often.) Corrupted my mind!

I love the prop work that went into this show, Richie's custard filled underpants was a great visual gag. I also love the bit where he shoves the umbrella into Eddie's groin.

This is definitely one of my favourite episodes of Bottom. Culture is actually the fourth episode of the second series and the second episode is called Parade which is pretty funny.
One of the best episodes of a comedy series ever.

Tiddlywinks is kids game played on a flat felt mat with sets of small discs called "winks", a pot, which is the target, and a collection of squidgers, which are also discs.
When you have finished the TV show you should watch Guest House Paradiso which is Bottom's movie. Eddie & Richie run a hotel next to a nuclear power plant ha.

I watched "The Germans" episode of Fawlty Towers on Netflix the other week and everything was intact. Same with a couple of episodes of Only Fools on Netflix and Amazon Video that have racial slurs in them, there was nothing missing.
If you've seen the Bottom episode "'s Out" yet, that was held back for a while due a murder that happened on Wimbledon Common. No one in the UK saw it until the VHS was released the following year, and it wouldn't be shown on British TV until after the third series in 1995.

The joke with the drink was that Esther Rantzen was a TV presenter back in the day who had remarkably large teeth and gums...hence “it pulls your gums back over your teeth”. As for the slur you mentioned...yes it does mean the same thing. These weren’t PC times, but I don’t think there’s ever been an outcry over it (someone correct me if I’m wrong) possibly because this shows popularity hasn’t really lasted in quite the same way as Fawlty Towers or Fools & Horses has. I’ve had these whole series for many years (on either VHS or DVD) and that line has always been intact. But it’s great to see you enjoying all of these shows for the first that we grew up with. Keep it up Josh 🙂✌️

Have you ever seen The Goodies? There was a Christmas Special called 'The Goodies and the Beanstalk'. Tiddly-Winks was an old pub game flipping counters into a cup. That racial term was an odd one to use, I'd never heard it in the UK, only on American shows.
As I have said on numerous times, you should react to The Young Ones and The Dangerous Brothers.
The Young Ones is centred around four students Mike (Christopher Ryan) Neil (Nigel Planer) Rick (Rik Mayall) Vyvyan (Adrian Edmondson) and quite often an Russian landlord, Jerzei Balowski (Alexei Sayle) and other some what interesting, bizarre charaters a long the way. The Dangerous Brothers are just the two of them Adrian Edmondson and Rik Mayall, probably the basis of their characters in Bottom.
Also, I'm sure other people have already recommended this to you but you should react to another classic British sitcom, Blackadder which the two main characters Edmund Blackadder (Rowan Atkinson, also played Mr Bean) and Baldrick (Tony Robinson) have appeared in every episode but a few times Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson make an appearance, especially Rik Mayall as Lord Flashheart in a couple of episodes and Mad Gerald from the last episode in the first series.
You must do Filthy Rich and Catflap, that is the series that preceded this one. It's similar characters as Bottom. Rick plays a Z list out of work celeb, Eddie is his bodyguard, it's way ahead of its time.
You should react to Rick Mayall's Nintendo commercials. He's basically playing the same character as in this show. Also, there won't be any issues with the video being taken down.
