  • Does everyone in Southern California hate it?
    Is everyone leaving California?
And is it super expensive and hard to find an affordable home?
We'll answer those questions and more. So grab some tacos and hop on the 10, we're going to Unbox Southern California.
Southern California. The land that once was great. It’s still okay in some parts, but MAN are people here doin their best to trash it and change it and make it not desirable.
Anyways, lots of people move here every single year. They do their homework on home prices and crime and they STILL want to come. And they are lost, I tell ya. Lost. Most people don’t know where to move. Like Goldilocks, they want the perfect place.
Anyways, that’s what this is all about. I’m gonna break down every single part of Southern California and let you know exactly what to expect if you move here. It’s a pretty big place, and no matter your background, education, your wealth or entertainment needs, there’s somewhere for everyone. Just just have to know where to look. Now I’m no realtor, but I know a lot about this place, so I can give you a tour.
Ooh. Look. Traffic. We didn’t get very far. I was all enthusiastic about really discovering this place and then BAM. We’re stuck. We’re not going to be able to see Southern California easily like this. You know what - I’ll just get a map out and while we’re sitting here in traffic, I’ll point out all the places you need to know about.

Sounds very accurate. I'm surprised you know so many details about so many places. I left in 1990 mostly because of the traffic. It was terrible in every direction on every road in RIVERSIDE which is a long way from LA. And now the prices are insane. The 2 bedroom 1 bath house I bought for $25,500 in 1978 is now supposedly worth half a million dollars? That's nuts. Norco is horse town. The only way you could get a place there was to know someone who was leaving (at least back then). Pedley and Bloomington were also horse areas. Probably not so much now.
I had horses in Temecula or Rancho California as the real estate industry prefers to dub it. Crazy expensive huge houses on 5 acres halfway between San Diego and LA and nowhere close to commute to work. Back then, the people building there were retiring from Orange and LA Counties. They'd sell in those expensive places and could afford to build a McMansion on 5 acres. Lots of retired fire department people moved there back then.
Actor Jack Klugman had a place across from the training track. Super nice guy. The Mexican grooms called his place "Taco Bell" because of the big entryway you could see from the barns and track.

Majority of the homeless are from the states where you don't want to be homeless because it's either too cold in the winter or too hot during the summer. It is why the coastal states have the lion's share of the homeless population. Admit it, who wants to be homeless in Topeka, Kansas or Oklahoma City, OK? California has got work to do in addressing homelessness, but let's understand that the number is exacerbated by the influx of those who are struggling coming from mostly midwestern states. Just ask them where they're from and you'll see.

I live in Perris, but that's a separate can of worms, but I remember when we moved to this area from L.A in 1990 Hemet was really nice. In fact back then it was said that it had more wealth per capita than Beverly Hills, I'm not too sure about that but it was a huge retirement community and there weren't that many questionable people running around, just a lot of old people driving slow in their Cadillac's and Mercedes Benz. Now it's just very sad there, It's so run down and scary looking. When the economy tanked back in about 2008 a lot of places in Hemet became section 8 housing, so that was part of the downfall.

Something to mention about the Los Angeles area is that everything is so condensed that even nice areas aren't very nice and things change block to block. Yes, Beverly Hills is a wealthy area, but you can be walking down the street looking at all of the fancy boutique stores and high-end restaurants, then turn the corner and all of a sudden be somewhere that you really don't want to be. Almost every city has places like that, even nicer areas outside of LA city, like Altadena and Pasadena. You don't want to be on the wrong side of Lake Ave... I've lived here my whole life and it's still strange to me how quickly things shift from block to block.
Also, the beach cities are very expensive and a lot of wealthy people do live there, but a lot of the major beaches are trashed from crowds and homelessness. I've seen some pretty strange things from being out at night by the beach
