When I was on Rick Steve's tour, I broke off from the group that day in the alps, bought a grocery store picnic, got on the bus across the valley, went up in the gondola to Grimwalt (sp?), walked the small town to the end, found a nice rock, ate lunch under the huge mountain peak, and then back down in the gondola, walking back to my hotel across the valley, alone was a most amazing day on my European vacation. I'll never forget it.
Wow!! really magical wonderful, striking marvelous stunning fascinating & magnificent videos of Burgundy. Thanks for sharing. I am watching from Bangalore
I'm interested to hear more about Rick's art series; i'm sure it's updated from the lectures he filmed about 10 years ago, but I have to say that for Rick not being a formally trained art historian, those art talks were already superb.
Before I watch to see the results of the poll, I'm going to vote for the Burgundy barge tour. I'm from Vancouver B.C. We have many great alpine hikes nearby, but nothing like the barge trip. OK, back to the video ...
Thank you so much for doing these videos and especially this one! My husband and I SO want to go to Switzerland and do some hikes like these. It all sounds so heavenly! This video definitely helps with getting some ideas about where and what we might want to do. Thank you again!
Really enjoyed the insights into both trips. Were you going to include a hiking itinerary for the Swiss portion in the comments? I thought I heard Rick say something about that. Thanks and keep on talking about traveling :)
Hi agiffordAK! The Monday Night Travel team shares this info about Rick's itinerary: Along the way, Rick visited the following Burgundian towns: Louhans, Cuisery, Chalon-sur-Saône, Verdun-sur-le-Doubs, Graignes, and Chagny. While trekking through the Swiss Alps, Rick ascended and explored the following peaks and passes: Chilchbalm, Schilthorn, Männlichen, Tanzbödeli, Jungfraujoch, Schynige Platte, and Kleine Scheidegg. And after long days on the trail, Rick rested in these Swiss towns and villages: Lauterbrunnen, Stechelberg, Mürren, Obersteinberg, Gimmelwald, and Wilderswil. I hope that answers your question. Happy travels!
Not sure I agree with Rick’s comments deriding bucket lists. I’m in my late 50’s and this is the first time I’ve had both the time and financial resources to travel overseas. I’ve never been to Rome. I’ve never seen the Swiss Alps. I’m finally able to make it abroad to see those places. For me, those are bucket list items - along with more than handful of others. At the end of the episode, Rick commented that it weighed on him that he might never go back to some of those places he visited. Isn’t that, at the root of it, the same psychology as a bucket list is for the rest of us?
This is a dumb question, but we're going in may. How cold does it get? I've been to Colorado many times As you get up pikes peak even in the summer it's cold
Such a beautiful evening!!!! Thank you for this.

I think you'll find he studied Art History at Uni, possibly with Gene, so that's formal training in my book.
I’d have never thought this type of trip would be what Rick Steves would choose to go on for his vacation. Very low key.
That Louis Jadot Beaujolais is marvelous! Found in LCBO Ontario Vintages section!

I won, even if by 11 points.
