As someone who is just getting into modern and realized I had 80% of the pieces for a Yawg deck in paper - your content is easily a masterclass on yawg, seeing live gameplay beats theory reading primers 10/10 times. Hyped to get in more practice with the deck
Match 5 game 1 I wanna dig a bit more into your reasoning for mulling the 7 card hand. For me this would have been a snap keep because a) You have your best possible turn 1 play, and a guaranteed turn 2 play, (potentially multiple options for turn 2 play if you do hit the green land). b) Your have your first two lands, which means you don't even have a potential issue until turn 3. On the draw that means you have 3 chances to find what you are looking for. 3) The way your hand looks, any land except basic swamp is good (even dryad arbor is probably fine since it taps for chord right away). Thats 19 good draws. Grist is a good draw if halfling lives, thats 22. Wall of roots, goose, or additional halflings are solid draws, thats 30. Young wolf is probably fine since it turns on chord, thats 33, more bowmasters is probably at least passable, thats 36, and soul cauldron is likely even acceptable if e.g. it turns your bowmasters into 2 mana dorks. Thats 39 good draws in the deck, so the only way this hand doesn't become good-to-great is if you miss on your 39 outer 3 times in a row. To me that sounds like a snap keep. Thoughts?
Very insightful! So initially, I also thought this was a snap keep. If we draw a 2nd green source the hand is just goated. Though after pondering more, we can see that we only have 2 castable spells in our hand, Halfing and Bowmasters. Despite that I still was tempted to keep, but we are on the blind. If my opponent is playing any removal (which is quite likely in this meta) then we're in a even worse position if we don't draw our 2nd green source. I think the factor that pushed me the most to mull that hand was how much worse it got if Halfling was killed. 🤔If I knew I was vs Heliod, I would've kept that hand for sure 😆. I don't think its incorrect to keep this though! As you say its pretty likely for us to draw well off the top. 🕺

I guess when I look at a hand like that I like to think in terms of "how many things have to go wrong before this hand is bad?" and IMO in this hand it's "Halfling gets killed AND I don't find a green source in 3 draws AND I don't find other playable 1-2 drops in 3 draws" and IMO it's super unlikely for all 3 of those things to go wrong.
Wall of Roots has remained 0/5 through metas with KCI, Hogaak, Eldrazi, Oko, Mox Opal, Treasure Cruise/Dig Through Time, Faithless looting/Golgari Grave Troll Dredge, Uro, Prowess, Lurrus/Yorion decks, Leyline Scion, and to this day. The card is always the most broken thing in modern and just avoids bans by being hard to kill.
I've tried Insidious Roots and it always felt unnecessary/win more in my testing. I think there's a shell for it, but I don't think its as simple as throwing it in the current build
