The Korean thing about being anti-black is very true. My sister lived in Korea for three years and she experienced people treating her differently not just because she was a tourist but also because she was black. I think a lot of it has to do with Asians having a very community-tight mindset where they build bonds with the people that look like them-also because for a while a lot of Asian countries banned immigration so they’re typically only used to seeing themselves around. She survived tho so I encourage y’all to go to Korea. 8:54

@@getachew. I would definitely say it’s racism with a hint of xenophobia, either way it’s not nice behavior. I think coming from an American perspective, we most likely always assume that a person who’s getting discriminated is on the basis of race but it differs from country to country so I see what you’re saying. My sister also traveled to Shanghai where people would come up and ask to touch her hair so…idk people are just interesting 😭

@@victoriagrace101 Yea Im from the states as well but i’ve been in aussie for awhile n my BF is Chinese and he says it’s mostly because of ppl liking to stick withthin their ethnic group. My situation it was either date a Ethiopian as the first priority or if you aren’t then white only bc it’s the most common n they r just used to white folks. both of our parents were confused but they didn’t care. The reason they probably wanted to touch her hair is most likely out of curiosity of not seeing many foreigners let alone someone from African descent. N True ppl are definitely interesting😭 I try to see things from other countries pov n not from a western lense since our history is vastly different from any country W/ race

I'm in an interracial relationship, my family white and hers black, and both of our families were over the moon when we all met. We love them, they love us, we do holidays together. Never once has either one of us experienced even an inkling of racism from either side of the family. Both of our families also already have had interracial couples going back a couple hundred years that we know of in our family trees (even during times where it was illegal in the U.S.). Skin color, ethnicity, culture...none of that has ever been a problem.

Jamaican girl with a Chinese boyfriend, arrived in shenyang after a 16 hour flight, went to his parents house and he went in to greet them and i started hearing some commotion and I went in to see what was going on and he was arguing with his mother in Chinese and then she saw m coming in and his mother threw a flash light at me hit me right in the fucking dome😭. And she pushed me out of the house and was not going to allow me come in at all! We went to a hotel and stayed there the entire trip but my boyfriend was pretty upset because he used to be his mothers best friend but they no longer talk because of me. We’re expecting our first child now and we invited both his parents to L.A for our son’s birth and naming ceremony because both my parents were coming from Jamaica thought it was only fair for his to come thinking all that was in the past, but his mother cursed at us and told us to go to hell. I think part of the reason these guys don’t have a similar experience when thinking about how their parents would react with them bringing a different race home is because they are all mixed themselves so their parents would easily already be more open to it. Most of time it’s out of hate, jealousy, or (believe it or not) love. Also this does have something to do with their lives. I support interracial couples as a Mexican/black, but I don’t like double standards, so to elaborate your argument is like saying not to vote on the president due to your vote being minuscule compared to millions of other people and thus seeming useless or a waste of time, but it has a big impact. Like Ryan said 2050 comes and most people will be interracial this will then affect their lives, they are just attacking the root not the branches but it still hurts the tree, if you get what I’m saying

10:53 I'm in an interracial relationship, my family is white and I've dated black and Hispanic people. Not sure if having racist parents is common, but it's not rare. My mom is totally fine w my interracial relationship, but my dad legit freaked out abt it n thinks it's "wrong" 😮‍💨 Makes it tough bc I can't even introduce my partner without him having a meltdown. Other than him, there are 2 other people in my family who have problems with my racial preferences, they're both very old. Everyone else in my family, especially the younger generations, fully support my choices n honestly don't give af about race. In my experience, its usually older generations that are racist. When the 2 other family members I'm talking about were young, interracial marriage wasn't even legal. And back in my dad's day it was extremely uncommon. I'm not giving them an excuse to be racist, there's no excuse for having such a terrible mindset and I hate that they're like that. I'm pointing out that's most likely the reason they feel that way, bc things were very different back then n it obviously had a negative effect on them, some of the older people at least.

Personally from what I've seen, parents from South/East Asian families are fine with interracial relationships as long as it's with a white person but never really with a black person. I have extended family members who are even married to white people, but I have yet to hear of anyone being in a relationship with someone who is black. And yeah, definitely a LOT of racism in these households.

In a interracial relationship here. I’m dating a mixed woman but more on the black side. I come from a Hispanic family. My parents aren’t disrespectful or rude towards her but they’ll at times believe certain stereotypes of black people that are pretty much racist. I’m not sure if it was easier to introduce her to the family because she’s mixed, but they’ve always said that I can date whoever I want. On my mother’s side though, they’re purely Mexican. Everyone was surprised to hear that I was dating a black woman. Either way, there wasn’t any major conflicts in the beginning stages. Anyways, good topic to make a video on. Keep up the good work guys 👍

Not a love relationship but I had a best friend in junior high who's parents were from Laos, they didn't even want us to be friends because I'm white. I went to her house in secret and ran away before her mom would come home, we were in the sports club together so we had the chance to spend time together at school. One day she came to school and told me her parents finally accepted our friendship and that from now on I was allowed to go to her house. Folks, don't give up, don't be discouraged and do your best to make it work. Take care 🙏

It's pretty much the same thing if your African. I'm Nigerian so my parents really want all their children to marry Nigerians. And because of tribes it even goes further where it should be Igbo as I'm Igbo. My parents though have warmed up to the idea that their children may marry out of the race. I believe with a lot of countries that are more traditional It's more so values. Some cultures have different ways in which they act and values they hold that at times It's seen as getting with another person outside this system may hurt the relationship. As they may not be able to understand or accommodate these values as well. It really depends some parents get more free as time progresses. It took my parents a while but they warmed up because we've been here for 15 years. I'm not speaking for all Africans but a vast majority of them do want their children to marry within the ethnicity if not the tribe.

i mean something you gotta remember is that america really is special in terms of being exposed to different races and cultures. countries like korea used to exclusively have koreans not that long ago so it’s not something most koreans are used to. as a korean american though i can say that even my parents have different opinions on the topic. my older dad isn’t as open about dating other races but my younger mom is completely fine with it. i find it hard to believe everytime i see it but there’s plenty of koreans who have never met or even spoken to a non-korean person. also korea’s relations aren’t too good with places like japan so maybe that also makes koreans want dating to be exclusive to koreans? not sure about that but in the end i do still believe korean parents have biases towards koreans when it comes to dating.

We from different culture often prefer to date or even marry the person within our culture because they will be more understanding and some kind of respectful toward our culture. Like there could be something that can come across as weird to the other culture but then we don’t have to explain if dating a person within that culture

From most of the Asians I dated, the parents and older family members be the ones that are straight up openly racist. They are ok with interracial dating if you’re complexion is lighter than theirs, otherwise you’re probably not seeing anyone from the fam/ gonna last long

Pretty much all Asian countries (not all the people though) are anti-black. If you compare the American Star Wars Force Awakens poster to the Chinese one, you can see that John Boyega (a black man who plays Finn) is shrunk and somewhat hidden behind other characters, while in the American one he is one of the biggest things on the poster. There are also a lot of articles that talk about this.

Ryan is definitely an OC guy. It's a lot more laid back, nothing too wild, lots of diversity, decent food
