As a senior in high school the dude in the yellow shirt was speaking nothing but the truth, the teachers don’t give homework. Or anything to challenge the students and the work they do give us is so easy and the lessons are so short we spend the rest of our class on our phones. The students are always fighting each other and the teachers it’s actually insane.

its been 3 years since i did math, my Algebra 2 teacher gave up after like 2 months when 2-3 kids would show up and i was the only oen paying attention. we started watching movies instead :) . he never gave us a test either.
I wish they didn’t. I sometimes spend like 2-3 hours a day on homework. Idk what classes your taking. It got hella stressful last semester and I’m only a junior..

I’m 17 and a junior in high school and I can say with confidence that this generation has if easier than then other generations. You’re not punished the same, you can access what you need to learn way easier, bullying is less severe, you really have everything you need to succeed. My school literally took away a required class because too many people were failing. It’s tailored to include everyone.

i think adulthood comes down to wisdom. cause in the end, you can be mature/responsible and a kid, or immature/irresposible as an adult. i don't really think that that's what defines our aging transition. it's more on life experience
as a highschooler, yellow shirt is absolutely on the mark, a lot of this kids are absolutely less disciplined then they probably were back then, especially the freshman who missed the last year of middle school cuz of covid they are absolutely horrible, i don’t even wanna see what it’s like with them as juniors or seniors, also damn near everybody does drugs and practically everyone i see is vaping, but i don’t do that shi so i can’t speak to it. overall, educationally it’s probably a lot easier, socially and behaviorally it’s pretty god damn bad.

It's a mess, administration just wants to push kids past their grade. They can't fail kids, barely any work is given, its a muck bro. I know a ton of people who just sit there and coast not doing any work and passing at the end of the year, getting into colleges but don't know anything. It might be the location but it's definitely very easy. We don't even get homework either because kids don't do it lmao. People are doing drugs in the bathrooms, security does nothing. Kids can run around and do whatever they want with no consequence.
How is school easyer because kids are failing? You're basically saying school is easy, but you're still gonna fail anyway. schools not pushing their students to succeed does not make it easy, if anything. The administration is failing its students by being lazy and allowing the students to do the same, and that would only school harder because your goal at the end of the day is to graduate you can not say that school is easyer because it easyer to fail

It depends on what those teenagers are doing. Some people are in fact making adult decisons while in highschool. Taking care of their families, sacrificing their time to earn money ect.. so while they are “kids” by age some of them are adults by habit.
I do think it’s harmful to overall view highschoolers as adults though because obviously there are weirdos that will take advantage. Those are still kids.

I am a teacher myself, and this is fascinating. I wanted to teach in the US at one point, but eventually turned it down before the pandemic, and I couldn't be happier. School here and globally vs. the US is world's apart.
Edited to say obviously not everything is perfect where I am (Ireland) but my students don't fear for the lives. That is one thing.

Going to school in the UK, after hearing what yellow shirt had to say I was shocked. In the UK school gets harder and harder as the years go on. Hearing about how homework ain’t even given to the students is crazy to me. In the UK you get about 1-2 hours a day per subject depending on the school and would have a few days to do it. School in America just seems way softer than here in the. UK
What school did you go to g, even when I was in year 11, granted we did 11 GCSE’s which is standard, they weren’t giving us 1-2 hours a day per subject. That’s literally impossible
But yes, they do seem softer. The guy said that they don’t do anything for your homework if you dont do it but that doesn’t necessarily make school easier. I would argue that it’s harder if you dont do your homework as you miss content and revision practice.

Y'all were definitely on point about kids needing social interaction because as a senior now, these freshman at my school skipped almost all of middle school, some did and opted to stay online for their 8th grade. You can tell they still act like elementary school kids but with the extended freedom of highschoolers
Also the thing about school being easy is definitely true the middle school lowered their requirements to pass when the freshman were in middle school. But I can't only blame them because I doubt that they learned much over lockdown. Like 85% of them probably just closed the door to their room and said they did something because I doubt their holding an elementary student down at a computer for that long
But the teachers aren't free either because the middle school teachers say they have kids that don't know how to do basic multiplication and division which is sad because they say no one made sure they knew it and just kept letting them go forward and now they reached a point where their failing in record numbers because they don't know what they're doing

My personal experience in high school was that there was always tons and tons of assignments, increasing as I got to be a senior. Not saying that’s wrong but it was nothing like yellow shirt for me. Also my administration made SURE to crack down on anyone that so much as tried to break the rules. Yes I feel like we have more resources to succeed in school, but I feel like the constant teachers who don’t care about you just trying to give you assignments so you don’t have time to do many other things is difficult. My high school experience was personally pretty hard
As was mine, but with the progression of the internet It's significantly easier for HS students. I graduated from hs in 2019 and pursuing medicine at telecom. Extensive tools etc.

Teachers, Professors and employers are so much easier on students and employees nowadays. I'm 19 and I admit openly that I'm nowhere near as disciplined as my parents were at this age. I'm working on becoming more disciplined but because of this generation, nobody holds you accountable for your actions. You can skip school or work and face no consequences. This builds the mindset that you can skip out on things such as going to the gym because you don't have that subconscious part of your brain telling you, you must go.
Seeing people like Ryder give me hope for our generation, I’m a freshman in college and there’s so many disconnected from reality and dumb people that it’s crazy, not much people you can have a real conversation with

Back in the 70's, 80's, etc, a 4.0 GPA was enough to get into any great college. Nowadays, grades are inflated because some schools in my area allow you to take a test 3 times and have a minimum of 50% on any assignment. There are tons of people with 4.2's, 4.3's, and much better, so if you don't go to one of the easy schools, you have to work 3x as hard for the same grade.

As a teen, I got social media at a very young age, one of my friends doesn’t have TikTok or Snap or anything and whenever the topic comes up in a conversation I always tell him to never get it. It’s better to be shelter than be exposed to all the stuff on media.

Ryder is amazing. I've been contemplating deleting social media and this video just made it so clear that something like that would be the best thing to do. Also, as a high schooler, Ryder came up with the best answers and everything he said was true. Great kid who was raised amazingly. I have a friend who doesn't have social media, me and him are 16. He's more of a workhorse, he knows what he's doing, and he cares about more important things. Although I just finished my sophomore year with a 4.5 GPA (weighted) and a 4.3 GPA in my freshman year (weighted), my friend is still much smarter and knows much more than I do when it comes to important things (he also has straight A's/4.0+ GPA). I am still a very mature kid and I am much smarter than a lot of people in my classes, but it just goes to show that social media kills your motivation and sucks you into unimportant topics. If I never had social media I'd be a more well-rounded, disciplined, motivated person and I would be a lot happier with myself.
I’m going into my senior year and I can definitely confirm that it’s a mixture of teachers not wanting to deal with entitled parents and kids, not wanting to learn.
I know kids who have failed almost every single class every year of high school but are also rising seniors like me! they don’t hold you back anymore they’ll just tell you to take a five week course during the summer, pass with a 70 and move onto the next grade.
And honestly, they are doing our generation a disservice because everybody in our generation thinks that they’re smart and possess many other great qualities that they objectively DONT!
I go to school in the suburbs, half the kids here, think they grew up in the hood they smoke weed in the restrooms they try and fight teachers and their parents are in the top 5% of earners in the United States.

I didn't get social media until senior year and It was because I realized it would make it easier to connect with people in college and shit. I have to say though I agree with the being a kid as long as possible. Sure you need to start taking responsibilities as you get older and you do less and less things but even in college I still very much feel like a kid or a young adult. I feel like I have the ability to try new things and make mistakes but still grow.
I think the difficulty of the classes you take matters a lot in terms of the difficulty. This may be because of the school I went to, but there was so much academic pressure to perform to the point that suicides would happen relatively frequently. When I think about it the difficulties of today's generation stems mostly from the factors outside of school like social life and social media. While school itself seems easier on the surface, I think due to those factors mental health in today's day and age is at one of it's worst, even with all of the resources and benefits that are available.

4:51 I would say that students today have it much easier than students in the past, primarily due to conveniences like technology, but also because schools are becoming more lenient! Ex: I was behind in school because I had a learning disability, aka being lazy. I was placed in a "small group" because of my "learning disability." This meant that whenever I had to take a test or quiz, I would go into another classroom with a few other kids and the teacher would read the questions out loud, and if it was math some students were given a calculator even though we weren’t allowed to have them. Eventually, I got out of this, but I noticed that the so-called "small group" wasn't as small anymore, mostly in middle school and high school. This means a large majority of students today can’t read nor do basic math. So yes students today have it a lot easier and I blame the system for it.
As someone who just left highschool(19), Ryder is spitting faxxx. The toughest part of our gens high school is the Covid part, other then that everything has been the same for legit the past 20 years. Got to just find a close friend group of a few people and focus on the things that help you mature as a man such as sports, fitness, money, and other passions. All the typical worries like attention from girls, popularity, and judgement from other guys will become easier as you improve within these realms!

I'm a high school senior finishing my last semester homeschooling. I don't regret leaving public school (though the pandemic didn't really give me a choice during my sophomore year). Online school was definitely difficult for everyone as our eyes and minds became centered around screens and wifi connections 😂. Transitioning out of online and back into public my junior year was honestly worse than voom yoga. I was anxious about everything, whether I got covid, failed my classes, or got stabbed. Didn't help that I switched schools when I moved, so I didn't even have friends. I was given a choice between taking an exit exam or homeschooling. I remember originally thinking homeschooling would be terrible, but having experience basically homeschooling for a full school year, I knew I could manage. I joined a program called ilead and since then continued to better my education. I'm grateful I was able to experience high school as it should have been. In my freshmen year, I was able to get a job, balance all my 6 periods, and gain important social skills. It pains me to see how so many children's lives have been taken by gun violence, drugs, and hate in general; its unnecessary and I just hope that parents and public officials take more serious action in the prevention of these horrible tragedies.
I know this comment has become an essay by now, but for my fellow students, I just want to remind you guys that no matter what direction you take in life, don't forgot that you dont have to figure it out all on your own, that there is always help even when it doesn't present itself.

I go to thomas jefferson high school for sci and tech which is supposed to be a really academically rigorous high school but I feel like after covid the rigor has really gone down. Like, the teachers barely give any homework nowadays and kids are always sharing answers. In my BC class, the homework isn't even required because the teachers know that only kids who actually want to do the homework will do the homework legitimately. Additionally, there's so much cheating on tests in school nowadays. Kids be getting pictures of the test before the test after lunch the same day.

I def think that schools vary on how “hard” they are when it comes to the actual education part. As an American junior, I was shocked to hear that Ryder isn’t getting homework 😭 My school environment is extremely competitive.
Idk about other school but I’d say school is (as a senior) harder. Not in like how you’re physically treated (ie bullying, racism, etc) but in terms of rigor and pressure. My school has become wayy more competitive in these past few years - and the general sense of pressure has been rising thruout social media. Also, I disagree that classrooms are more disorderly(maybe than the 50s), but basically no one speaks over the teacher unless allowed. Bad grades are still dished out, not infrequently. Homework is still heavy(mutiple hours a night)- and required for every class to assign.

senior year was expected to be my hardest and it was by far the easiest but maybe that is because i worked hard early to have multiple off periods. but i still experienced in my senior classes teachers just not giving homework because either older students working and or because like ryder said, they know we wouldn’t do it.
I’m a senior now. The school districts in my county provides real life education for juniors and seniors. So you can choose a field, if that he business, technology, healthcare, or trades. You are able to apply and you are selected out of many students to attend this. For one half of your day you’re at school and the other half I’ve got to meet business owners and learn so much about the business and tech world. The schools don’t provide this normally. You have to apply and chose to do it yourself. You get to learn the real life skills like how to dress, how to write resumes, we even get to have an unpaid internship and then a paid one in the summer. It’s an opportunity to learn and I can tell you all of I learned doing that was way more than I’ve learned at school. I learned how credit cards works, how stocks worked, how to manage money. I am already working on my real estate license. It’s insane that this is what the normal school should provide.

As a freshman in college I can remember that my senior year of high school was VERY lenient as well as having a shit ton of resources for any sort of help
Im a highschooler and I would say it depends. I do agree that most kids my age are undiciplened and we takle many things for granted but at the same time I think there is more pressure to do well in school since going to good colledge is put above all else nowadays.
I do agree that this generation ultimately has it easier than the previous ones. For instance, severe punishments before (i.e. literal abuse or violence) was seen as a normal thing to condition someone into behaving. The removal of this old "fear" factor or punishment today makes it easier for students and their parents to speak out (complain basically) and ask for so much leniency. Also, there is the added pressure (for institutions) of being called out, whether through protests or on social media, which gives higher chances for concerns to be addressed as the students see fit. Not disregarding the fact that HS today is still hard, but comparing the overall factors that defines "difficult" between generations, older ones had it harder for sure.
As a sophomore in high school I can strongly agree that the teachers are lazy as hell these days and just don’t feel like doing anything which reflects on the students.

one time this kid a year younger came into our class party and his teacher for that period ran inside the room, smacked a slice of pizza out of his hand and brought him back by the wrist cause he told her he was going to the bathroom. I think the culture surrounding high school and people in their teen years is vastly different within America than elsewhere in the world, I.e. Asia, Europe and Oceania... Currently, I'm in my second year of the IBDP and not so surprisingly, the load of work I get seems to be a lot more than what high schoolers in the US are getting. Alongside that, we still have all the rules in regard to uniforms, usage of technology and getting work done. Being disrespectful towards teachers is almost seen as a sin, especially within Asia as a whole. Although (and I'm coming from my own perspective based on this video), the Asian school system does sound more linear, and well-established in the sense of what an education should be, these principles are the cause of some drawbacks. In the country, I currently live and study in, it is a norm to be burnt out and stressed beyond relief before your senior or junior years, to the point where most people desire to leave the country at the moment of graduation. Also, suicide as young as the ages of 13 and 14 have been seen, with the main cause of them being due to school-related stress and expectations of getting top grades.
I believe people in America are facing issues only they can relate to. Gun violence within the school system is an issue unique to the United States, even your neighbouring country, Canada, has had 11 gun violence-related deaths within a school... in history.

I attend a private school in Florida, and I can't help but think that Jubilee specifically selected students on the more “woke” side for the role. No one in my school or general area really cares about this exploring sexuality and all the other stuff; the only things that matter to them are partying and 7on7 football😭😭😭

I’m 16 a junior in high school, I agree that high school is way easier now. At this point, you can just take a picture of your assignment and have ai do it for you. Bullying isn’t severe anymore, most people are too scared to say what they think to your face, instead they say something on the internet.

As someone in high school I would have to agree that the workload has significantly decreased because of a decline in work ethic but then there’s also certain classes that are the complete opposite and they REALLY push you. Examples of these classes would be ap or ib where they know that you choose to be there.
As a 16 year old Indian, i believe that out here in Mumbai we are much more study focused. At least our national board. The IB board kids are mad like that but the rest of us are smart. Like we had our exams and the class average was 96%, with no one having an average lesss than 91%. School has definitely gotten easier. One thing tho is that although the exams are relatively easy, theres a lot of competition. Like the exam that you have to do to be able to get into the course to become a doctor is not that hard, but theres 2 million kids appearing for 0.1 million seats and only 20k of those are in good medical colleges. Also we dont have as much of this wokism nonsense so we're good. 😂
Yes, India is very study focused. In the us where all the recourses are available there’s some of the dumbest laziest people who can be like that with no consequences. In the us stealing and acting a fool is not punished so you can basically do whatever you want.

I agree with this video so much, As a man who deleted Insta, Snap and I have zero social media presence anymore I feel free, I can focus on fixing myself, I have depression and Have tried to End my life, I took a few years and reflected on myself, Now I’m decently happy and am still working on myself, But I genuinely feel better without social media

I live in the Netherlands and I’m in first year of college, but when I was in high school, the first years were still pretty strict on homework and stuff. The later years it was a lot chiller. But it also depends on the teachers. Some were really uptight others were really easy going…

With the homework and the respect to teachers it just depends on the type of classes. For example if you’re taking ap classes then there’s a higher standard and the kids generally have more respect and do homework
This is my personal high-school experience so far at my school so some may or may not relate. My high-school is a IB school and our classes are semi difficult, not too hard just a lot of homework, so people will fall behind because teachers assign two things everyday. The only class I failed (with an F) is math because the teacher wouldn't help or go over things. They also won't let me do alt-ed for math even though I've been failing it since 6th grade so I felt really stupid. Im really good at english and global usually, but I'm currently falling behind in english. I think since I'm a freshman it could be the change from middle school where they would never assign anything to assigning something everyday so its hard to catch up from not being used to it. I also struggle with depression and anxiety so it makes work harder for me because I'm always tired and don't really have that much motivation even though I know I need to get things done, which just makes me feel dumb. I also have really bad social anxiety and have panic attacks and hyperventilate while talking with other people like students and teachers, so I have a 504 plan that says I don't have to speak in class, present in class, and teachers have to check in with me which all have done so far except 1. It kinda sucks that i got my 504 plan after I failed algebra because it may have made a difference. I also took all graduate classes this year (to see how difficult everything was) except for conceptual physics because you can only take CP for that, so im happy I passed my final (a test) because if I hadn't I would've stayed back in his class as well, which I struggle with because of tne math (I literally can't even do basic math things). Ryder was right about how teachers don't care about what you say either, there is a sophomore boy who supports Hitler and does the salute and has a nazi flag background on our school iPad, but the teachers don't care. Sorry about how long this was I just wanted to say my personal experience.
I’ve noticed that older generations of high schoolers were typically educated in general studies, but weren’t technologically advanced. However, the newer generation of high schoolers are more technologically advanced, but lack common knowledge. I just think that the world is evolving towards being technologically enhanced.
As a 19 year old, I have seen that teachers such as in hs aren’t giving enough homework or even educating students, and young teenagers want to be consider as adults NO, and I agree with the yellow shirt guy because of all the crazy stuffs going on in the real world is absolutely bs, and if I can travel back in time I would absolutely live up my childhood and I also miss it because u didn’t necessarily had to worry about anything at all now is social media brainwashing about weird news, choosing sides,So word on that

I graduated hs last year, the teachers gave homework but they did not really prepare me for college at all. When I came to college I now have to do extra classes and summer course to catch up to the program I am in
