  • Irini Krylova benching 264 lbs raw in a 1998 Moscow competition with perhaps the shortest ROM I've ever seen. Interestingly, even in equipped IPF competition, Krylova rarely used a bench shirt--presumably because she would not have gotten much out of it since her ROM was so small!

    That's 2 inches at best.

The 227 by April is a full meet record .. This was a single lift.. the current single lift record is 297 by Lucy Ejike 09/20/04

She pressed before the press command?

    Wow! Impressive technique!

BingTao .Ting Yeah, it's pretty crazy. That said, I don't think I could bench as much if I put my hands out at the collars with a super wide grip like that. It's just too hard to stabilize. So she has some amazing control of the weight, despite the ROM being almost nonexistent.

i am not sure, but i think there is rule about rom. it has to be at least 10 cm or somthing like that? correct me if i am wrong. i think this is new rule of IPF, since 2010.?
However, great techique and work on flexibility

TheBulaja There are members of IPF who have tried to pass such a rule onto the books, but so far this has always failed. The rulebook doesn't not contain anything on minimum ROM for a press.

TheBulaja For an example, just look at Shao Chu's recent 182.5 kg bench from the past year. It might actually be a smaller ROM than the press in this video.

etwade oooh fuck me... but this is starting to be more about flexibility and not about strength sport, a little bit annoying to me
however tnx for an answer :)

I think it is pretty awesome. Anyone who gets upset over it is because she is most likely benching more than them....it is the same thing for people who get upset with sumo. Different techniques and different strengths.

This isn't about technique. This is manipulation of leverage to the greatest degree possible to drastically reduce ROM. It's almost as impressive as the guys that "Squat 315 for reps", when in actuality, they're bending their knees ever so slightly into a 1/4 squat at most. Yep. They squat more than I do, just like she benches more than I do. Totally butthurt about it. 😐

FChuckT 315 for reps isn't impressive or hard at all...

FChuckT I see what you are saying but it is all relative.

Mark aachen To your average lifter, properly squatting 315 for reps, IE 5+, is definitely no easy feat but alas... This is the internet. I should have said 500! 😂

Xavilai for sure man. I'm not dogging her. Rules are rules and she dominated them. She completed the lift within the allotted distance.
