    The Kawai has a "tapered" sound board, which helps to produce a rich sound with less effort. The U1 does not have a tapered sound board. The Kawai also has longer key length (more typical to a grand feel/action), and also makes it easier to play keys close to the fall board. The Kawai also has a much wider sheet music stand that can easily hold 5 sheets. Kawai K 300 has more bottom end and a warmer sound than Yamaha U1. Kawai also comes with a 10 year warranty on parts & labour that is transferrable to a 2nd owner. Yamaha U1 also has the similar warranty with the exception that you cannot transfer warranty to a 2nd owner.

    Thanks for a honest and informative video.
    As a recent buyer of a upright piano - we recently researched both these instruments at great lengths.
    While both are comparable instruments - the Yamaha was definitely more expensively priced. On a retail basis - it was over $700 more. I think it is mainly because they are a better known brand.
    Kawai is not as well known brand as Yamaha is - but in piano circles they have impeccable reputation, a passionate following and, I believe, serious piano manufacturing chops.
    We eventually choose Kawai - K-500 piano - over the K-300 -because the dealer gave us a good deal for it. However, the choice between Yamaha and Kawai was not even close, IMHO.
    I am glad to report that we are happy with our choice. We have no regrets and have not suffered any buyer's remorse for over the 2 months that we have owned the instrument. :-)

    • @ShyamKumar-zb2mw
      @ShyamKumar-zb2mw 4 года назад +1

      @@pablo-zn1mg - Yamaha - in the way we experienced it - tended to loud and bright.
      In comparison Kawai sounded more softer, richer and mellower.
      The Kawai's sound quality was more close to Stienway's - in the way we heard it - and which is why we felt that the choice was not even close for us.
      The above aspect has been echoed multiple times, by multiple people and in multiple forums. This was experienced by us as well.
      FYI - we tried both the instruments. They were close close to each other - in the same showroom space. Hope this explains.

      Good comparison. It also depends on what type of music you are performing (the Yamahas, certainly like many say, at least in my opinion, are better suited for modern / jazz / some classical pieces of music, and the Kawais on the other hand are better suited, due to their more mellow tone, like most European brands, for all classical music in general.)

      @GiovanniBausC 3 года назад +4

      Maybe not. Wooden parts may be more expensive to manufacture than injection-molded ones. The lower price of the Kawai seems to result from a mixture of innovations allowing a more streamlined production. Maybe Yamaha also charges some premium for their reputation which was established over decades, be it justified or not. I suppose the Kawai action might require less maintenance over the years.

    Hey old friend Tim, Don Nichols in Little Rock. A few facts that may help folks see the value of Yamaha ….
    2 piece top (more convenience and cost) Kawai slow close mechanism is only one side, and not near as durable as the double brass slow close on Yamaha (more expensive and longer lasting) ABS action parts are way cheaper than worldwide sourced organic hardwoods seasoned for years of service, the yamaha harp is full perimeter made at the Yamaha foundry. Kawai plate is hour glass and it is unclear who makes it, the one piece fall board is more costly to make and works just fine with music. Question… why are K300 for all the world made in Indonesia EXCEPT the ones coming to USA which are assembled in Japan. Question…. Kawai backposts are LVL while Yamaha is solid spruce. They say this is better…. Then why are Shigeru post solid spruce. Overall, perhaps the K300 should be compared to a B3, not a U1 (K500 better comparison) In my opinion U1 (even B3) is a far better value than a K300.
