Since no-one yet has mentioned it : The couch is where they started, uploading their videos from the apartment to RUclips to grow their fanbase.... then their careers took off (couch going out into the world)... the starscape is for Dr Brian May holding a PhD in astrophysics.... the 'Trio' falling onto the couch at the end is a nod to the Queen album art for Sheer Heart Attack.... the 'panning' from left to right at the beginning was on the original track. The couch comes back to the lounge at the end ...for me that signifies them still being who they started as - with more success, but still humble and best of friends. There is a behind the scenes video for this - some of the interviews I've seen basically show Mitch being afraid he was going to die from the freezing cold (they literally filmed all through the night) or falling off the couch...which Kevin actually did ! They had to build a step on the back of the couch because Kirstie is only 5'4" and couldn't launch herself onto it 'gracefully ' hahaha....

Personally I think this should have been another Grammy win for them. This arrangement is hella sick. You should definitely react to their other Grammy wins Daft Punk Medley, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Jolene with Dolly Parton. Also if you want to get a peek into their history then you should react to their Sing Off journey (each episode from beginning to end). It gives you a sense how the got together and their closeness.

Avi has a different timbre to his voice. Matt's is smooth like a good brandy. In concert they don't always use the megaphone and it's still good. May I recommend an original-Run To You.
Mitch doesn't use the megaphone live, just his voice and the mic. It's incredible live! Imagine is also really amazing, Aha Singapore live is top notch, especially for Avi and Mitch fans.

Maybe it just helps us relive the original disbelief and State of Shock and Awe that we went as we discovered them ourselves. You got another subscriber. I'll go down this rabbit hole with you LOL. This is Pentatonix don't be afraid to go into their old stuff 4 years 5 years ago it's still amazing and you'll find some really good Treasures in there. Check out one or two of Avi latest ones of his solo career. He's doing amazing things on his own
By all means, do Imagine next and then one of their modern ones, such as Aha from Singapore or Daftpunk. For Dimash, you'll want to do Autumn Strong , which is just loaded with emotion and for which he has won awards.
What is so crazy is that the original trio wanted to go on the "Sing Off" competition but the rules required a minimum of five people. They had heard of or quickly found Avi for their bass and then had to search for a beat-boxer. They found Kevin's RUclips click of him playing his cello. So, if they didn't go on the show that required five, the group would have probably never formed. Now that you have started down the rabbit hole you need to check out their progression on the "Sing Off". But, first you HAVE TO watch Imagine but you have to be prepared!!!!
Here's how I look at it: Avi is so goddamn good and so loved that he wouldn't just get replaced by anybody. Sure, their popularity has died down some after his departure, but honestly I think their sound quality has gotten better. Their cover of Mad World is worth a listen. Or 10

You mentioned in your reaction on this about how well Kevin and Avi work together.... well, I know it's already been suggested to you, but an even better example of Avi/Kevin holding it down together is Daft Punk.... I mean...the bass and beatboxing doing an EDM beat.... it's insane. Best display of their talents, IMO. And the video is great, particularly because there's close ups of each of their faces at almost all times, so you can really watch what each person is doing. It's really eye opening in terms of how complex their arrangements are because you'll see Avi singing the melody, but then also slipping in more sound effects in the middle of it, while adding bass line and he blends in and out of each role seamlessly. You'd hardly notice if you weren't watching him do it.
Either that, or "Black & White" with Todrick. It's not full PTX, it's Superfruit (Pentatonix subunit, Scott & Mitch) plus Kirstie. So 3/5ths PTX + Todrick.

They are really incredible. So glad you are reacting to them! I've watched them since The Sing Off, but I'm now really getting into some of their original music hardcore. We all love Matt, and are eternally grateful for him coming along to fill some huge shoes in the group. He brought an energy, and a love of music that matched everyone already involved in the group, and we can never thank him enough for coming into our lives the way he has. That being said, I think that the vast majority of us love and miss Avi. I think, Megan, that it's about that time. It's time for you to take the ride. You should start at the beginning, I think. Sing Off performances. There are 12 of them, in the competition, one that's a special performance with a celebrity judge, and one that's a "victory lap", so to speak. And, in them, you can see how they became the artists they currently are. You can watch them grow, becoming a tighter group, watch a small part of their arranging process, and see some of their ( over dramaticisced for the show, I'm sure ) struggles to come together as a group. That journey is amazing, IMO. Of course, I MAY be a bit biased. I was there when it started, so...Lol. Also, since you've stepped into the world of accapella music, and you love PTX, you may want to consider branching out. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Pentaholic for life, I don't think there's anything that the 6 members of PTX ( Avi still counts because I love him ) can do that I wouldn't listen to. But, there ARE other talented groups out there. The two you will hear the most about, from me and from many others I'm sure, are Voice Play, and Home Free. And, that's because both of them are...both of those groups are... Well, both of those groups are. Welcome to the Pentaholic family, Megan. You're in for one Hel of a ride. You'll find music styles, music suggestions, and groups that you never would have heard of, in a million years, now that you've found this tight knit, slightly insane, and amazingly supportive, kind, and generous family. This is one of their best songs from the Avi era. If you like acapella, another group to check out is Home Free. They are right up there with Pentatonix! You won't be disappointed.

Miss Megan I am with you. Avi is my fav. I love this group and each are so incredible but do miss his voice and presence. seeing them in concert and Avi are on my bucket list. thanks for the on track and heartfelt reaction. Happy Holidays.
Avi is a true basso profundo, so it is his natural deep voice combined with his classical vocal training that made him so strong within the group. Matt has a different characteristic to his voice, naturally not as deep. Granted, Matt had HUGE shoes to fill...but I give him a LOT of credit for managing to bring a somewhat new dynamic to the group. Because Avi is still good friends with the rest (and even helped pick Matt to replace him), I'm hoping at some point there may be a reunion featuring all six members. If you want to check out Matt at his best, watch their version of Mr. Grinch. They used to tour constantly, so hopefully they'll get back to it when things start getting back to normal in the world.
I LOVE YOU!! I’ve watched, no exaggeration, hundreds of reactions to them and I love yours. I’m a new subscriber and don’t plan on that changing. I’m an original Pentaholic. I watched them on “The Sing Off” and fell in love after their 1st performance and never looked back. I always feel like a proud Mother. They’re mine, I saw them first. 😂😂 I cried when Avi left but at 61 I’m used to things changing, even if you don’t want them to. Kevin is from another planet, soooo talented. Listen to their cover of "Shallow".. Kevin plays the cello and beat boxes, AT THE SAME TIME!...Everyone loves basses, so you'll want to add Home Free, and Voice Play to your acapella groups. All 3 basses are incredible.

They've made a number of Christmas songs that you might like to hear. Mary Did You Know, The Carol of the Bells, and Little Drummer Boy to name three of my faves. They also did a remix of an Imagine Dragon song, Radioactive, with the violinist, Lindsey Stirling that is incredible. Kevin also plays the cello and sometimes sings. They're an incredible group.

Avi is a Basso Profundo, a natural deep bass, he trained himself to talk higher so people could understand him better as they had trouble understanding him at his natural timbre.
FYI: A couple of years ago there was a You Tube video of Pentatonix making the above video. They did it one night on a public street. There are houses in the background. It's Los Angeles I think. It was cold that night and that's why in one shot Mitch's condensation breath can just be seen. The video shoot took all night.
This was my first PTX video. The ONLY reason I clicked on this almost 3 years ago was because Queen is my favorite band when I grew up. Scott,Mitch, and Kristy grew up together in Texas.....enjoy your journey. Try their new cover of Amazing Grace. Just so good!
Can we show some love and respect for the couch, it literally carries the band even more so than Kevin and Avi. The couch literally sets the stage for this song.
anyone who followed PTX from the accapella show they got their start on knows that mitch did the guitar trick for one of their performances there, so they always knew it was in his bag of tricks, and one of the earliest critics (of which there were few) was scott needing to learn how to step back from the lead, which he took to heart, avi and kevin were refered to as "meat and potatoes", and once were told that they were making sound engineers everywhere fear for their jobs with the effertless way the pair lay down backdrops.
Avi and Kevin joined the trio of Scott ,Mitchell & Kirsti, right before the "Sing-Off". On the this contest, Kevin& Avi were renamed 'meat & potatoes. Matt is a great singer, but like you, I'm an Avi fan. You can listen to PTX, and really enjoy that. But for me, I need to watch as well, making it an EXPERIENCE!!! Truly enjoy your reactions!!!
Yes, I'm a little late to this video. One of my favorite moments with any new Pentaholic is their reaction to Mitch "Guitar" Grassi. I think it's only rivaled by the first time they really hear Mitch sing, such as in Hallelujah, Avi's bass, and the combination of Avi and Kevin in Daft Punk. Everyone reacts in a similar way, but never quite the same. It's always some amount of shock, which is almost immediately replaced by pure joy. Well, you've checked off three from the list. On to Daft Punk :)
You need to watch the “making of” video...it will make you appreciate it even more. Not as a reaction but just for yourself. You could see how they were freezing their ass off!
I think the biggest thing for me was the way they stayed true to the original (which I love) - the way they shot the video in places was so very like the original video and I appreciate they did not 'change it up' like they do sometimes, as they didn't need to. Not to say that when they do 'change it up' in some covers (think Can't hold Us, Problem etc where they slightly change the lyrics to suit them better is a bad thing, it's not, and it usually makes it better! this song was perfect to start with and their cover is just as amazing as the original. Maybe look at their cover of Gold to see just what Mitch can do that the original singer couldn't!
You MUST listen to their daft punk medley! This will again knock you off your chair and it will fester Avi and Kevin especially. They won a Grammy for the video, by the way. (And they shot the Video in Avi‘s closet...!)

I will add my vote for your reaction to their Daft Punk Medley Official Video. They won the 2015 Grammy for Best Arrangement Instrumental or A Cappella for this. Then I would suggest that you follow it up immediately with a video I just found. It's titled "Pentatonix Daft Punk Mix Private Performance" posted by Nick Riddell. It appears to be a private performance for just one or two people in what could be a small room or someone's living room. The five of them simply stand in a line with casual street clothes without mics or anything else and do the Daft Punk Medley. It looks like a simple video camera with a single mic mounted to the camera was used and that's it, absolutely no "enhancements". It's remarkable how close it sounds to the Official Video. I think you will be amazed if you do the back to back reactions.

I think you have yet to discover their fun and silly side. For fans who have enjoyed them since 2011, we have had the chance to watch them grow. You getting all this in a concentrated dose. They were just 19 to 24 years old at the beginning, 19! So yeah, they were young and full of dreams but also fearless and tentative. Matt is now the youngest, his voice has lots of room to grow and get to its full potential but he is a wonderful fit talent, energy and personality wise. I suggest the covers Can’t hold us, Radioactive, Come along, You’re a mean one Mr. Grinch, Thrift shop and No. their originals are also great like Love Again, Can’t sleep love and Happy now. But, it’s ALL good. I’ll be watching and enjoying your comments. 🤗

This was back in 2011 and literally the five of them came together a day before there audition for the show. This is one of my favorite PTX videos. Seeing them, and especially Kevin, rocking out and having soooo much fun and energy with this make it even more awesome.
A few suggestions for PTX reactions. Come Along is greatly underappreciated. It is a cover, but not a song most people are familiar with, so you aren't automatically comparing to something in your head. And it is pure fun. Their two collaborations with Lindsey Sterling are incredible, and hearing PTX with instruments is a change. And Kevin on cello! And don't ignore their original songs. Finally, Daft Punk is essential.

I saw this video pop-up in my feed then disappear before I could watch it. Glad you got it back up. I was looking forward to your reaction. Especially in these times, it's nice to share a few minutes enjoying life together. Please do more ;) In this song I love that Avi gets to make full use of his opera training. I'm also a diehard Queen fan and, dare I say, in that section, I prefer the strong bass Avi adds. I agree with your affinity for Avi. I love Matt's work along with several other bass singers like Tim Faust and Geoff Castellucci but, what can I say. The richness in Avi's sound is just unmatched. It's not fair to Matt to compare. I bet he feels like the 2nd guy to step on the moon sometimes. He's still in the top of the class and on the same level as the rest of the group.

You mentioned in your reaction on this about how well Kevin and Avi work together.... well, I know it's already been suggested to you, but an even better example of Avi/Kevin holding it down together is Daft Punk.... I mean...the bass and beatboxing doing an EDM beat.... it's insane. Best display of their talents, IMO. And the video is great, particularly because there's close ups of each of their faces at almost all times, so you can really watch what each person is doing. It's really eye opening in terms of how complex their arrangements are because you'll see Avi singing the melody, but then also slipping in more sound effects in the middle of it, while adding bass line and he blends in and out of each role seamlessly. You'd hardly notice if you weren't watching him do it.

We all love Matt, and are eternally grateful for him coming along to fill some huge shoes in the group. He brought an energy, and a love of music that matched everyone already involved in the group, and we can never thank him enough for coming into our lives the way he has. That being said, I think that the vast majority of us love and miss Avi.
I think, Megan, that it's about that time. It's time for you to take the ride. You should start at the beginning, I think. Sing Off performances. There are 12 of them, in the competition, one that's a special performance with a celebrity judge, and one that's a "victory lap", so to speak. And, in them, you can see how they became the artists they currently are. You can watch them grow, becoming a tighter group, watch a small part of their arranging process, and see some of their ( over dramaticisced for the show, I'm sure ) struggles to come together as a group. That journey is amazing, IMO. Of course, I MAY be a bit biased. I was there when it started, so...Lol.
Also, since you've stepped into the world of accapella music, and you love PTX, you may want to consider branching out. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Pentaholic for life, I don't think there's anything that the 6 members of PTX ( Avi still counts because I love him ) can do that I wouldn't listen to. But, there ARE other talented groups out there. The two you will hear the most about, from me and from many others I'm sure, are Voice Play, and Home Free. And, that's because both of them are...both of those groups are... Well, both of those groups are.

Avi is a true basso profundo, so it is his natural deep voice combined with his classical vocal training that made him so strong within the group. Matt has a different characteristic to his voice, naturally not as deep. Granted, Matt had HUGE shoes to fill...but I give him a LOT of credit for managing to bring a somewhat new dynamic to the group. Because Avi is still good friends with the rest (and even helped pick Matt to replace him), I'm hoping at some point there may be a reunion featuring all six members. If you want to check out Matt at his best, watch their version of Mr. Grinch. They used to tour constantly, so hopefully they'll get back to it when things start getting back to normal in the world.
Mitch, DEFINITELY, has a Freddy Mercury, showman quality about him. He is awesome!
I LOVE YOU!! I’ve watched, no exaggeration, hundreds of reactions to them and I love yours. I’m a new subscriber and don’t plan on that changing. I’m an original Pentaholic. I watched them on “The Sing Off” and fell in love after their 1st performance and never looked back. I always feel like a proud Mother. They’re mine, I saw them first. 😂😂 I cried when Avi left but at 61 I’m used to things changing, even if you don’t want them to. Matt is amazing and will never be Avi, but he’s Matt and I love him for what he brings. So…on that note…gotta go watch more of your videos. 👋🏼🤗💋

They've made a number of Christmas songs that you might like to hear. Mary Did You Know, The Carol of the Bells, and Little Drummer Boy to name three of my faves. They also did a remix of an Imagine Dragon song, Radioactive, with the violinist, Lindsey Stirling that is incredible. Kevin also plays the cello and sometimes sings. They're an incredible group.

Hi Miss Megan. Absolutely brilliant arrangement and rendition. They really do seem to love what they do and they know how to out a smile on your face. Your commentary itself is compelling and I’m glad you did this one. I can’t wait to see them live. 2020 was supposed to be the year but COVID-19 put paid to that. 2021 maybe?
Avi is a Basso Profundo, a natural deep bass, he trained himself to talk higher so people could understand him better as they had trouble understanding him at his natural timbre.
FYI: A couple of years ago there was a You Tube video of Pentatonix making the above video. They did it one night on a public street. There are houses in the background. It's Los Angeles I think. It was cold that night and that's why in one shot Mitch's condensation breath can just be seen. The video shoot took all night.
This was my first PTX video. The ONLY reason I clicked on this almost 3 years ago was because Queen is my favorite band when I grew up. Scott,Mitch, and Kristy grew up together in Texas.....enjoy your journey. Try their new cover of Amazing Grace. Just so good!

Can we show some love and respect for the couch, it literally carries the band even more so than Kevin and Avi. The couch literally sets the stage for this song.
anyone who followed PTX from the accapella show they got their start on knows that mitch did the guitar trick for one of their performances there, so they always knew it was in his bag of tricks, and one of the earliest critics (of which there were few) was scott needing to learn how to step back from the lead, which he took to heart, avi and kevin were refered to as "meat and potatoes", and once were told that they were making sound engineers everywhere fear for their jobs with the effertless way the pair lay down backdrops.

Yes, I'm a little late to this video. One of my favorite moments with any new Pentaholic is their reaction to Mitch "Guitar" Grassi. I think it's only rivaled by the first time they really hear Mitch sing, such as in Hallelujah, Avi's bass, and the combination of Avi and Kevin in Daft Punk. Everyone reacts in a similar way, but never quite the same. It's always some amount of shock, which is almost immediately replaced by pure joy. Well, you've checked off three from the list. On to Daft Punk :)

I think the biggest thing for me was the way they stayed true to the original (which I love) - the way they shot the video in places was so very like the original video and I appreciate they did not 'change it up' like they do sometimes, as they didn't need to. Not to say that when they do 'change it up' in some covers (think Can't hold Us, Problem etc where they slightly change the lyrics to suit them better is a bad thing, it's not, and it usually makes it better! this song was perfect to start with and their cover is just as amazing as the original. Maybe look at their cover of Gold to see just what Mitch can do that the original singer couldn't!
You MUST listen to their daft punk medley! This will again knock you off your chair and it will fester Avi and Kevin especially. They won a Grammy for the video, by the way. (And they shot the Video in Avi‘s closet...!)
Daft punk medley would be a great next reaction in terms of arrangement. They won a Grammy for their arrangement! It was recorded in Scott's closet and cost $400 to produce. I think you'll be floored once again.

I will add my vote for your reaction to their Daft Punk Medley Official Video. They won the 2015 Grammy for Best Arrangement Instrumental or A Cappella for this. Then I would suggest that you follow it up immediately with a video I just found. It's titled "Pentatonix Daft Punk Mix Private Performance" posted by Nick Riddell. It appears to be a private performance for just one or two people in what could be a small room or someone's living room. The five of them simply stand in a line with casual street clothes without mics or anything else and do the Daft Punk Medley. It looks like a simple video camera with a single mic mounted to the camera was used and that's it, absolutely no "enhancements". It's remarkable how close it sounds to the Official Video. I think you will be amazed if you do the back to back reactions.

The guitar solo is unique to say the least. and when I found out Mitch only used the megaphone for prop purposes it blew me away. In concert he doesn't use it and sounds the same!!!! Incredible! I think you have yet to discover their fun and silly side. For fans who have enjoyed them since 2011, we have had the chance to watch them grow. You getting all this in a concentrated dose. They were just 19 to 24 years old at the beginning, 19! So yeah, they were young and full of dreams but also fearless and tentative. Matt is now the youngest, his voice has lots of room to grow and get to its full potential but he is a wonderful fit talent, energy and personality wise. I suggest the covers Can’t hold us, Radioactive, Come along, You’re a mean one Mr. Grinch, Thrift shop and No. their originals are also great like Love Again, Can’t sleep love and Happy now. But, it’s ALL good. I’ll be watching and enjoying your comments. 🤗

This was back in 2011 and literally the five of them came together a day before there audition for the show. This is one of my favorite PTX videos. Seeing them, and especially Kevin, rocking out and having soooo much fun and energy with this make it even more awesome.
A few suggestions for PTX reactions. Come Along is greatly underappreciated. It is a cover, but not a song most people are familiar with, so you aren't automatically comparing to something in your head. And it is pure fun. Their two collaborations with Lindsey Sterling are incredible, and hearing PTX with instruments is a change. And Kevin on cello! And don't ignore their original songs. Finally, Daft Punk is essential.

Especially in these times, it's nice to share a few minutes enjoying life together. Please do more ;) In this song I love that Avi gets to make full use of his opera training. I'm also a diehard Queen fan and, dare I say, in that section, I prefer the strong bass Avi adds. I agree with your affinity for Avi. I love Matt's work along with several other bass singers like Tim Faust and Geoff Castellucci but, what can I say. The richness in Avi's sound is just unmatched. It's not fair to Matt to compare. I bet he feels like the 2nd guy to step on the moon sometimes. He's still in the top of the class and on the same level as the rest of the group.
