Benjamin Orr was a pure natural. He didn't have to pretend, and it showed. Though the entire band was truly one of the very best, Ben's stage presence was magical, and was the most handsome and down to earth man. Rest in peace Benjamin and Ric. 🌹🎸🌹❤️.
I am a metal head... metal music courses through my veins like water flows in a river... But Id listen to Ben Orr and the Cars anytime, anywhere, for any reason... I know Ric sang most of the songs but i really wish Ben had sung more... Anyone else agree ? Dont get me wrong i like Ric Ocasek but ..... seriously.. Ben friggin Orr !!
@@notgivinup Actually, Ben passed in 2000 so it has been 23 years this month, October 3, 2023. It really hurts that he had to leave way too soon. RIP Benjamin Orr. Loved forever and never forgotten. You are one of the very best human beings to ever walk this earth. 🙏✝️💟❤️🌹🌹💔🇺🇲
Elliot was wired, grovin' and Ric in his own little world didn't want to come out and play. This was so much fun to watch. Ben is so confident and comfortable with himself, he and Elliot are dancing and moving all over the stage. Love it!!!
Think Ric’s “2 cool 4 school” introversion attitude, and EE’s “I’m just a normal dude playing in a huge rock and roll band” extroversion didn’t clash too well… take it from someone who’s been in that position in a band before, it makes for really great music and bad chemistry.
I want to personally thank whoever the person is that made Ben's black leather pants... no one EVER looked finer in leather than Ben...oh yeah, his voice was kind of FANTASTIC too...
I was lucky enough to meet Benny 11 letters, as he was known as then, back in 1965, He was still with the Grasshoppers, in Cleveland, Ohio. I went to a few of the concerts they played at the UAW halls. RIP Ben & Ric
Well, lucky lucky you, Cars my ultimate favorite band, love them and well especially Ben, I’m fascinated with the bands he was in pre-Cars even before Ric. He is just Awesome, I bet that’s a great memory for you.
Oh, my….watching Ben’s fingers work that bass in the solo just got me going! It is rare to see the entire solo live on video. They are usually focusing the camera in the wrong place.
1975? At A Red Sox Game..Rain Delay..Then they cancel at about 11! We leave and wander into The Rat in Kenmore Sq...As we walk in, what band comes out and plays for what I remember to be at least an hour, yep, The Cars....I will never forget that night as long as I live....
cant say enough about the smoothness of his vocals... I think every club bass player should watch how (spelling not my strength here) disiplined his playing style is with regard to the rest of the band, he is never to loud, never over plays the instrument, uses a pick and mutes the notes so's they dont overlap and muddy up the dynamic headroom on stage. Perfection on bass and vocals...
I’ve said it many a times....just love this band! I’m 60 years old....and I listen to their songs all the time.....such great music! Thank you for the memories!❤️
EE has got his groove, Benjamin Orr’s voice is smooth as molasses. Literally melting at 1:03. Forty-one years ago, and still amazes. Am thankful we have RUclips to view The Cars. Thank you.
Love them all!! But did anyone catch why at 2:24 Elliot goes by Ric to rock out and Ric wasn't with it and Elliot is like WTH?? Elliot was rocking out though! ❤
Ric the businessman. He knew who played the best on certain instruments. Most were multi-instramentalists. As with vocals, he knew who's voice would marry with what lyric. He even juxtaposed his or Ben's vocal abilities with certain productions too. Ric was the consummate pro muso.....and he liked to stretch & test himself & his bandmates. Every.single.one.of.them.were.consummate.professionals!
I love this song because it showcases Ben’s range. He sings in 3 different octaves in this tune. Amazing. You’re so missed Benjamin. 😢 I can’t wait to meet you on the other side since it didn’t happen in this one.
Greg Hawkes and all of his way ahead of their time keyboards. You hear him but never see him in this video. Always a major part of The Cars sound. The Cars were such a great band because all of the members did their parts so well.
The Cars whole first album was great, but side two, itself, was mind-blowing! I love to listen to it, laying back , with my headphones on,in the dark. Moving in Stereo, and All Mixed Up send me to another dimension. So long, Ben.
This is the best version of this song I've ever heard. Don't know why I haven't discovered this before now. Ben's voice is perfect. The band is so tight. Ugh! I wish we could all go back in time. This must be from the Panorama Tour? I see the Panorama flag in the background.
@Christy - At the beginning of the video it says ‘Moving In Stereo’ 1978, which is when the debut album of The Cars was released. The best live version of this song imo is from the “Rock Goes To College - The Cars” concert video. It’s here on RUclips. There’s a separate video of ‘Moving In Stereo’/‘All Mixed Up’ from the same concert, also here on YT. I highly recommend it. Stellar vocals and bass playing by Benjamin, plus much better audio and video quality. Benjamin looks impossibly good. @Christy - It’s only right for me to single out Greg Hawkes’s perfect sax solo at the end of ‘All Mixed Up.’
the cars were probably the most ultra modern rock band of their time..ground breaking synth sounds incorporating flying hard rock guitare riffs, with some great straight forward drumming.and great song writing..not mention the good looking dude Ben Orr singing lead vocals to complete the band's aesthetics !.the cars were THE 80's american rock band !! i say this and im canadian !!..loved them since i was a kid ! great fucking band ! they've even influenced new bands heavily, such as the killers!
Elliot Easton is the bomb...... I am so happy that I was around for all of this, and got to see the CARS live a number of times. They were so ahead of their time. But if you really want an awesome experience, listen w/ headphones. You'll hear a lot more than through speakers....
Seen them in 1979 at the Hollywood Sportatorium in Hollywood Florida when they opened up for Jay Giles. They stole the show, blew Giles away. One of the most under rated bands ever and awesome live. Benjamen Orr is truly missed.
Of course you have to listen to the album version (doesn't have to be vinyl, but doesn't hurt). It is so cool listening to it with headphones and listening as his voice comes out of one channel and then the other, literally moving in stereo. I think that their first was the best.
first time i heard this song was late 70's when i was an ensign aboard ship over in Barcelona Spain..great band and its so tough to see the decline in todays music.. these guys were true musicians..thanks for posting this video..
You got that right Brenda Roy! He is right up there with Elvis as far as the looks and voice in my opinion, Saw E twice but love Benjamin just as much!...ok maybe more
I have an album by Milkwood "How's the Weather" that has Ben Orzechowkski and Ric Otcasek of the Cars in it a well a Greg "Hawks" Hawkes. They play folk music. It's great stuff. Very collectible. I think i'll put that out right now.
Ben's voice is so unique, deep, kind of puts me into a trance (or maybe it's just the memory of listening to this back then, while "altered" ! Such good memories of Ben's songs....so awesome. I want to go where this rock is, too!
Damn, I was only 18 then. Back then besides vinyl albums it was 8 track tapes and cassette tapes we listened to on our Pioneer Super Tuner players in our car out cruising.
Such an awesome band ! I remember the first time I heard them back in n the 70s & I was who the heck is this ? Wish I would have made it to one of their concerts.
Cassette player turned up as far as my speakers can muster, the sound of my V-8 rumblin' down the main drag, in search of beer, babes, and houses(or farms, for that matter) to party at or just ghostbust through. I agree, it won't ever be like that again. Good music
Yeah me too! I love his voice!
I whole heartedly agree!!
Jim Lahey I completely agree. On all fronts. Ben Orr was the total package. They each brought their uniqueness to their songs, but Ben Orr.....

Three of The Cars' songs AND Benjamin Orr's red pants treating him right!

Excellent comment, you are spot on David
+david wolfe Great observation! Yes, Benjamin was always such a pro when he was performing. He was the true leader of the band!
Love the haunting synthesizer playing. Coupled with Orr's singing, one of their best tunes. Pretty damn good live too.

The CARS is at it's BEST WHEN BENJAMIN IS THE LEAD VOCALIST.
100%

Just perfection. What else can I say.😍

I love him blonde hair, brown hair, or jet black Ben was just hot
Its so funny that when most people here the Cars they picture Rick Okasik(sp) singing but the best Cars songs don't even have him on lead.

They are all cool in the way they rock ! Without all of them Cars would not exist , Just saying
Great tune.....still good today!
Wow just wow!
Oh I think I’ve already commented on this song already ❤ 🎵🎤🎸🥁
Sweet version
Ben's voice sounds better than the instruments. How is that possible?😁
Because the human voice is the best instrument, an exceptional instrument In Benjamins case.
Because he was that good…
