Cool thing is which he didn’t mention was a rogue samurai who wasn’t exactly noble born like Saki was stalking the Mongolians lasted 5n a half weeks of just him fighting. ide like to that’s the inspiration of jins character
The Mongols first occupy a small island. Japanese samurai analyzed this and took countermeasures. In Japan, individual competitions were the norm. But it cannot be used in war. In other words, samurai used group fighting. The Japanese army's constant attacks day and night, the range of their bows. The rotting carcasses of cattle and horses were then thrown into ships, a tactic used to bring about plague. Furthermore, samurai had high fighting power and high morale. The Mongol army was unable to enter and was defeated at the seashore. And they were defeated. As they were escaping, they were hit by a strong wind and scattered. That second time was even worse. Because the samurai took precautions.
Yeah, I can only imagine how much of an impression it would be, for someone learning about how accomplished the Mongols were only to then be turned on their heels by Japanese Winds and passionate defense of their homeland.
Japan skipped many ages entirely from stone age -> skip bronze -> iron age. They also skipped from bow age -> skipped crossbow age -> gun age. (remember that China had crossbow factories since B.C. era and Greeks invented crossbows without trigger even before this) Korea helped Japan skip bronze age, and Portuguese helped Japan skip crossbow age In a proper fight, Japanese would have been completely slaughtered. Japan at this point in time were using horrible weapons both in quality and effectiveness, and had horrible tactics, and had very disorganized military. Japan only became capable of invading foreign forces after imports of Western gun technology. Japanese were fighting very inexperienced, defeated slaves from China and Korea, some of which deliberately tried to disobey their Mongol overlord, and Mongols fought in a very wet climate that they are not familiar with (look at land that Mongolian controlled, vast majority is not in tropical climate) In proper fight, wherein Japanese fights in Mongol controlled lands, Japanese would be utterly annihilated.
No they were not, there was no storm in the first invasion, in the second one yes but only after battle already occurred, the storm was used as an excuse to deny rewards.
@@serronserron1320 there wasn't no account on the Japanese side mentions any storm, there is one on the yuan side that was written later even then it says the army withdrawal after suffering too much casualties meeting is storm on the way home but even that contradicts itself later it said the storm was a lie. Again one did happened in the second invasion but only after months of battles, the Japanese side pretty much winning all of them, it's even debate on how much damage the storm actually cause.
To think Ghost of Tsushima is kind of historically accurate when it came to Mongols defeating the Samurai. The only part that is wrong is Jin stopping the Mongols. Nature defeated the Mongol threat twice as the Storms wiped them out.
I wouldn't call a diplomatic letter from a people with a long history of diplomatic betrayal, along with a threat of war if not accepted, as an attempt at peace.
The Mongols, who at one time conquered all of China, carried out an invasion of Japanese rule, but failed. Why did the Mongols fail to invade Japan? First, with the navigational technology of the time, it was not easy, expensive, and dangerous for a large army to cross the rough and stormy seas of the Pacific Ocean from the continent. Second, Japan is a volcanic island nation formed by undersea volcanoes and has almost no plains. In particular, there are few plains in Kyushu and the western part of Honshu, which is close to the Chinese mainland and the Korean Peninsula, and the topography of the country is such that mountains are right in front of the coastline. This is probably because horses, the most mobile weapon of the horsemen who conquered the Mongols and the Great Plains of China, could not demonstrate their greatest weapon, mobility and fighting ability, in the mountainous areas of the Japanese archipelago, where there are few plains, because the natural environment is too different from that of the continent. For this reason, the Mongols withdrew from this invasion of the Japanese islands, judging that there was little return for the enormous investment and risk involved in conquering them. With this withdrawal, Japan was historically spared direct invasion and domination by the continental powers. The natural environment and topography of Japan, formed by undersea volcanic activity in the Pacific Ocean, is quite different from the geography of Eurasia, despite its proximity in terms of distance. About 80% of the country is mountainous, with little flat land except for some coastal suburbs. The entire country has a temperate climate, and because it faces the Pacific Ocean, it is warm, humid, and rainy. In other words, the country is naturally rich in vegetation, as the ground is filled with clear water filtered by the mountains. Green vegetation thrives throughout the country, and the mountains are covered with trees. There are almost no rocky, barren mountains or arid desert areas. People live in the narrow plains within this mountainous and narrow country, and in the mountainous areas between several mountains. It is a natural environment 180 degrees different from the arid, vast plains of the Mongolian Great Plains. The Mongolian soldiers who landed in Japan for the first time must have been astonished by the natural environment, which was so different from that of the mainland. It must have looked like a foreign land covered with green mountains, torrential rains, and thick fog, which could not help but look like the abode of ghosts. The Japanese warriors must have used their amazement at the environment to their advantage in their pursuit. For a long time, since the Jomon Pottery Culture period some 14,000 years ago, the Japanese people have adapted to and settled in a foreign land, which seems unusual from the perspective of life on the continent. This unique geopolitical and natural environment of Japan has not changed even today. The fact that Japanese culture and behavior is so different from that of continental Asia, even though it is part of the same Asian continent, is due in large part to the different geopolitical and natural environment of this continent. Japan is not simply a paradise of abundant greenery, water, and food, but also a hellish land of volcanic activity, earthquakes, windstorms, floods, heavy snowfall, and epidemics of bacterial growth. This is because it is a culture born from wisdom and adaptive behavior to survive safely there. The reason why the Mongols, who had overwhelming military power and conquered from China to Europe, were defeated by this island nation was because they thought their winning streak in the natural environment of the continent, which was connected to the land, would work in Japan as well. They also thought that the natural environment of Japan, an island nation, would not be so different from that of many countries on the continent, and they underestimated the situation, neglecting careful information analysis and strategic planning.
Could you do a video about the three musketeers? I have hundred other suggestions of topics that still is missing on the channel such as Atlantis, Nostradamus, Cthulhu, Kraken, Ziz, Behemoth and many more.
Actually the battle of 1274 in kyshu was a Japanese victory the Wikipedia says also is true. so this channel does not now what he talking about just saying clear information. Thanks you have a nice day everyone.
The last battle of bun'ei last battle was the battle of torikai-gata a Japanese victory and the mongols and the koran went back to thir ships. So that battle of bun'ei was eventually a Japanese victory of 1274.
Might wanna use a different picture for the photo of the second Mongol landing. The soldiers on walls have firearms, those weren’t in Japan in time of Mongol invasion.
The storm that took down the fleet was like a ghost, thats why they probably named the game Ghost of tsushima to make things relevant with actual reality as in the game it was like only jin taking on the whole mongol army
Actually, influence of storm in this war has been stated in a bit hyperbolic manner. To be short, storm was nothing but "an additional factor" on the whole. Knowing that the war situation was not going in Yuan army's favor, Yuan-Goryeo generals decided a tactical withdrawal at a war council. According to "The Collected Works of Jingang (金剛集)," they decided to retreat temporally because some 300 military forces of WA had newly arrived in the midnight. During their withdrawal, their ships were overtaken by a windstorm. And then, a lot of them collided against a cliff, wrecked and sank off the coast. Thus, Yuan army was merely caught in a sudden windstorm at sea on the way to their homeland.
Don't downplay the imoact of the storms that wiped out the Mongol army. Another important aspect is that the Mongol's main weapon the composite bows became unusable in humid hot climate. That's why the Mongol empire couldn't conquer southern nations in S.E Asia and India as well.

Good thing Jin Sakai existed to drive back the Mongols.
I clicked on the video just to see Jin Sakai's mention
And the Chinese. And people wonder why Japan invaded China in the 1930s ..
He didn't and doesn't exist though...
I guess Kuyshu is the setting for Ghost of Tsushima 2

I mean... His clan was wiped from History and exiled by the shogunate.
