This song took me back, growing up on the Rez, my late parents back yard was the North Western Ontario forest, the east river that took you all the way to the Hudson Bay, hearing stories of amazing hunting trips and living life on the land, listening to my late grandmother humming an old song meant to calm tired babies. It’s amazing where a song can take you, thank you very much.
Another great artist out of Virginia is Tyler Childers. If you’re not familiar, check out “Nose to the Grindstone” “Hard Times” “All Your’n”. There are plenty of great songs, but those are some of his best imo. Live versions are the best versions too. Cheers!
Banjolicious. Also: This song is so catchy and easy to sing along with that I often have it as an ear worm all day long. Taylor Meier's sandpaper and dry leaves "old soul" vocals add extra depth. It's a standout tune among many wonderful ones on my favorite Caamp album.
Loved this song when I first discovered it and now going through some struggles with addiction it has taken on a deeper meaning to me and it honestly is what I listen to daily and it keeps me going!!! Thank you for this live version
I can't remember where I heard this song before but I knew I really liked it. I was just camping this weekend and it came on and glad I finally looked into it. So glad this song reappeared for me. It hits me incredibly heavy for some reason, in a good way I think. Probably his voice, the lyrics and the rhythm of it all - Amazing.
So many feelings. Riding in the back seat of my parent's station wagon driving the Appalachian highways from our home in Western Pennsylvania to our Aunt's home in West Virginia. I was a skinny kid with a chip on my shoulder. I would look at the passing scenery; a mix of beautiful woods and mountains; blighted by strip mines, open pits, and logging operations just raping the land in the most brutal fashion. I've since moved to the big city, got a liberal arts degree, and settled into adult life. And I have to ask myself, "Am I a life force?" Can I hold this grudge against the power companies, the mining companies, and the logging companies if I don't do anything about it myself?
Wow! See this is why the arts matter, a song evokes this reflection!!! What have I heard lately (in Western Canada, BC) that activism can take many forms, wheee change is in the hands of the next generation coming from a place of love and passion. Find your people, gather and dig in to arts for social change! I saw this politician the other day in Whistler and he told us of the work he had been doing… I will find the clip and add it here lately
This is one of those songs where you either close your eyes or stare blankly into the distance and get taken into the song.
That grit on his voice is incredible.
Couple of smokes and a beer, and step up to the mic! He’s a genius
@@AlternateJunkie Saw them live last month and that's exactly how he rolled on stage.
@@wrightallen3054 I used to be in an Irish rock band and I sang…legit a pint of Guinness and a few stogies and my voice was good to go 😂😂

The banjo and his voice made this band great.
Idk if I’ve ever said this but the banjo was a necessity for this song. Loved it
The banjo and mandolin are really sweet together. Very subtle.

His voice has never cracked, change my mind.
Who doesn't like it?
His voice feels like my favorite sweater.
For whatever reason this song cultivates some deep feels for me, the lyrics and sound together feel so therapeutic. Every time I listen to it.
I’m a Aussie and my wife and I visited West Virginia a month back and this came on the radio. Favourite song atm 🙏🙏

It's capo 1 but sounds like open with no capo
Possible. I read something about tuning down a half step and capoing on 1 as something to do with lengthening string life or somesuch.

He's like a hipster James Hetfield. It's like someone in the middle of a Metallica video dialed it down just enough.
