Wow, the two rows of strings REALLY makes a difference. Gorgeous, resonant sound. Never heard a harp quite like this. And a perfect piece to play to really bring out the ethereal qualities.

The sound is amazingly large, maybe because of the size of the sound boards. Very lovely rendition of Debussy.

Marvelous!! What an exemplary work of cross-cultural music!
Sylvain, it was a great privilege for me to watch you play this beautiful piece with Konghou on the spot in WHC. I was amazed how fast you grasped the features of Konghou, and picked Clair de Lune to be played with it. What a great talent you are!

Strange-looking instrument (for a Western eye) but lovely rich sound - and of course beautifully played :-)

Un son particulièrement riche. J'aime beaucoup. Serait-ce là le futur de la harpe?

Je viens de voir que cette harpe a des cordes des deux côtés. Impressionnant ! Quelqu'un peut-il me donner un tuto sur cet instrument mystérieux ?

Could be a tremolo machine like kora! Are two sets of harp tuned differently?

The playing is superb. I don't understand the value of two sets of strings. Twice as much time tuning, for one thing. This instrument sounds rather harsh. Are too many strings metal rather than gut or nylon?

Konghou has some special techniques that need 2 sets of strings.

Modern konghou was designed based on Western harp and guzheng, the doubled set strings was to incorporate some complex pluck string techniques that were common in guzheng and pipa so that the instrument could be use in a Chinese orchestra. Although it could be use at playing Western classical pieces but the sound definitely unmistakenly Chinese.

I think some konghou use silk strings. I don't know what this one has. Double harps (with two sets of strings) are gaining in popularity among lever harpists because you can play the same area of the harp, even the same note, without your hands getting in each other's way. This allows for different arrangements, and can work well for those who want to play complex things on small compact harps. Obviously this particular konghou isn't small, but still, double strung harps are very much a thing.

it's kind of an old video but i'd be grateful if someone could tell me what material the strings are made from

Hey, the strings of the Konghou are made of metal like the strings of the ghuzeng ;)
