I used this paper once in a while for watercolor for the past 4 years . The colors look amazing and it’s super easy and fast to do the artwork. Because the paper it’s super resistant and you don’t have to worry about overworking it . Also after it’s done it looks good just by himself . Not need of expensive frame if you don’t want it . That’s amazing to see how it is done 🙏🏽
This is a good example of using waste to make something new. It takes scraps before they get into the oceans or landfills, eliminating complicated collection and purification steps that make some processes unviable. And high quality paper is made from cotton anyways so it really is a win-win.

Western countries used to do it as well when they used only cotton and wool for most clothing. However, the raise of man-made oil-based clothing materials change everything. These clothese are too expensive to recycle, so most of it is dumped or re-sold to poor countries before finally getting dump there.
to be honest, whatever technology comes in future, writing and drawing on a piece of paper is always more satisfying then doing all that in iPad, as an engineering student, i have to draw multiple diagrams, even tho it's half the effort in ipad, still that feeling i get after completing drawing with pencil on A3 sheet is so satisfying.
For me, it's half-half. Drawing on paper has a different feel to drawing on a tablet, but they both feel good. And the feeling differs from medium to medium and tool to tool. For paper, are you using high grade professional paper or cheap copy paper? Are you using a good quality pencil or something out of a dollar store? Same with digital. Are you using a drawing tablet or just a regular iPad? Are you using a stylus, your fingers, or a mouse? All sorts of factors come into play.

Indian rivers are totally toxic from small businesses dumping chemicals and waste in the rivers. Paper making requires a lot of chlorine and other chemicals to make the pump white. Indian rivers are the dirtiest in the world, businesses and normal people use them as rubbish dumps

Another fact, there are production units making handmade paper like this all over India, so there is no single town keeping the tradition portrayed in the video alive. Sorry, but as a researcher on handmade paper, this type of sensationalistic video title really frustrates me.
@Wayne Flanigan So, this paper factory is located in a small village that has a number of other paper factories around making different types of paper. The output of this village combined might be above average, but India has a lot of these areas where paper is made.

Wow, My Malayalam teacher gifted me handmade paper after an essay writing competition when I was studying in 8th standard. I still have it with me. It has got a good fragrance and it is very different, harder and little rough compared to machine made paper.

Back when I was 13, we had to choose a science project based on some kind of manufacturing process and present your findings to the class. I chose paper making. Learning about the pulp, aligning the strands with a home made tool (nails in a piece of plywood) and the different additives to strengthen or clean the pulp. I learnt a lot and people enjoyed feeling the paper samples I had made. It's no easy task.

I have been watching since childhood, when I was in the third grade, I used to go to my grandmother's place for summer vacations, then I know how terrible this river smelled and there is no solution to this thing.
So much toxic chemicals are released into Amanishah Nala by this paper industry and dye industry. That water is used by farmers to grow vegetables and is causing cancers and infertility in people.
I have handmade paper notebook that i keep for sketching and painting and believe me it is so much better than regular paper...the paper itself gives an identity to the pages and the paintings look so much better

It is really disheartening that the facts presented here are not properly researched. Before the use of the Hollender beater, the beating of the fiber could take many days, not "3 times longer" as stated in the video. The paper "sieve" is called a paper mould. Also the simplification of the historical introduction of the craft is just laughable. First of all, papermakers established themselves in other regions of India, and are still active there. There is no evidence that they only settled in Sanganer. Kagzi is Urdu and means papermaker, which I would say is pretty important information. The papermaking tradition shown here is important, but very far removed from the actual papermaking tradition of historical India, in terms of tools, raw material, technique, and so on. As correctly stated in the video, the industry flourished again after the British despotic rule, but with a whole new way of making paper similar to the one in the video. The real dying papermaking craft in India is the traditional way of making paper by using traditional tools and techniques. For your information, just 350 meters down the road from the Kalpana factory is the factory of Mohammad Hussain Kagzi: They have kept the tradition alive to this day and are perhaps one of only 6-10 families who still work in a historical way. This I call horrible research, sorry. Anyway, the hand-paper-making industry in India is well and alive with production centers all over India, but traditional papermaking is almost gone and should be the focus of this video (in my opinion), especially when alluding to the long history of papermaking in India in the title of this video. Two words come to my mind: sensationalism and exoticism. This inaccurate approach to a very important craft in India feels just hastily put together to create a story from another part of the world.

Ikrrr. I’ve lived in almost all corners of the country and have seen this happen everywhere. Not as common as it was earlier but it still isn’t rare.

In Ukraine we have a place for tourists(Radomysl castle) where anyone can take part in making such paper. The place is known since 1612.

I thought all of the papers came from trees and recycled paper waste. It's good to know that there are some other sources of it like garments and such. Kudos to Indian workers who work hard and proudly compete to other manufacturers.
Historically, a lot of paper came from reusing fabric in this way. It hasn't always been made from trees.

Back when I was 13, we had to choose a science project based on some kind of manufacturing process and present your findings to the class. I chose paper making. Learning about the pulp, aligning the strands with a home made tool (nails in a piece of plywood) and the different additives to strengthen or clean the pulp. I learnt a lot and people enjoyed feeling the paper samples I had made. It's no easy task.

The water there has become very dirty. I have been watching since childhood, when I was in the third grade, I used to go to my grandmother's place for summer vacations, then I know how terrible this river smelled and there is no solution to this thing.
So much toxic chemicals are released into Amanishah Nala by this paper industry and dye industry. That water is used by farmers to grow vegetables and is causing cancers and infertility in people.

I have handmade paper notebook that i keep for sketching and painting and believe me it is so much better than regular paper...the paper itself gives an identity to the pages and the paintings look so much better

It is really disheartening that the facts presented here are not properly researched. Before the use of the Hollender beater, the beating of the fiber could take many days, not "3 times longer" as stated in the video. The paper "sieve" is called a paper mould. Also the simplification of the historical introduction of the craft is just laughable. First of all, papermakers established themselves in other regions of India, and are still active there. There is no evidence that they only settled in Sanganer. Kagzi is Urdu and means papermaker, which I would say is pretty important information. The papermaking tradition shown here is important, but very far removed from the actual papermaking tradition of historical India, in terms of tools, raw material, technique, and so on. As correctly stated in the video, the industry flourished again after the British despotic rule, but with a whole new way of making paper similar to the one in the video. The real dying papermaking craft in India is the traditional way of making paper by using traditional tools and techniques. For your information, just 350 meters down the road from the Kalpana factory is the factory of Mohammad Hussain Kagzi: They have kept the tradition alive to this day and are perhaps one of only 6-10 families who still work in a historical way. This I call horrible research, sorry. Anyway, the hand-paper-making industry in India is well and alive with production centers all over India, but traditional papermaking is almost gone and should be the focus of this video (in my opinion), especially when alluding to the long history of papermaking in India in the title of this video. Two words come to my mind: sensationalism and exoticism. This inaccurate approach to a very important craft in India feels just hastily put together to create a story from another part of the world.
