I hope business insider is paying these people enough money for the view and subscribers they getting from them. Every state of India is full of these local cottage industries which only locals know about. At this rate, Business Insider can make a lots of videos just going from one of these to another.
Hello from West Bengal. Extremely happy to see a video on your channel from my State.
So much hard work.. no doubt handmade shuttles came so expensive. Once there was one state level competition at our school. I was happy because we were selected to assist and we got all the discarded shuttles.. it was treasure for us back then
The true artisans working sustainability with environment and protecting the quality, nature and life of people
I bet the ducks that are abused and exploited for this disagree with you.
Nope, synthetic is better for the enviorment as it lasts longer, polluted less, causes less species decline, makes less overpopulation (yes birdie manufacturing process does make overpopulation) AND synthetic is better for the enviorment due to materials used.
@@sergiocanalles2316 I agree.
nothing is more satisfying than the sound of a good smash from a feather shuttlecock. im no professional but this is one of the reason that makes playing badminton fun.
As a badminton player this is interesting
I hadn't ever played with feather shuttles until a few months ago, and since I just started taking the sport seriously, I can say there's nothing better than opening a new tube of feathered birdies. I hope that one day there will be a durable version of a feathered shuttlecock that companies like this can make easily
I'd love to buy shuttlecocks from this company! 😻
I'll look for the brand in the shops wherever possible. The shuttlecocks look so beautiful and strong. 😻😻
All the badminton players I know, including professionals, prefer feathers. Cheap synthetic ones just don't cut it, but I understand the price thing. Wish I could get the feather ones for the price they said

My childhood was lovely playing with them .
I loved these shuttles .
The plastic one are terrible. They warp out of shape and then fly all over the place.
Once you've tried a feather one, it's very hard to go back to plastic.
Yes, feather one's cost more and wear faster but even with split feathers, they still fly better then warpy plastic ones.
Here feather costs less than the plastic. Feather one costs 1/3rd of the plastic
@@premsai2050 I don't know where "here" is but everywhere else it's the other way around.

@@PushyPawn listen up, the natural ones are cheap from child labor and mass suffering is caused to make the buessness work. You should only buy synthetic ones.
Honestly, I prefer feather than synthetic. I feel like it flies better and more controlable than the flimsy plastic ones even if I'm a casual player.
Synthetic is better you know
The same thing made in Japan would cost like 20 dollars a shuttle or maybe more. One thing japanese are expert in, is marketing their products. "Oh look this is such a tiring process.. all of it made by skilled workers who are the finest in business.. all handmade into perfection.. 200 dollars a tube sir.."

This is astonishing, and the comments are as well. As a child, I loved playing badminton, but I just accepted the unusual thing called a shuttlecock as part of the game. (I'm sure ours were plastic.) Older now, and wondering whoever thought of this!? Who made the first oddball thing called a shuttlecock? And seeing that the making of excellent shuttlecocks is still surviving is mind blowing. Not everything is automated, and these people most likely don't get paid anywhere near what their intensive labor is worth. Thanks for a great video on an interesting topic!
Handmade and made with sheer amount of skill brings out the best out of each Material used to make a product makes it so much better for me
I remember playing with feather shuttlecocks in my childhood. Now, you can't find them easily. Most shops have synthetic or plastic shuttlecocks.
Good, synthetic birdies are way better than the fether ones that slowly destroy the planet we have
@@insectbite1714 actually the feathers would go to waste if not for these people so shut up and stop spamming every comment
This is amazing :)
I always wondered how the natural feather ones were made
As a Bengali from Kolkata, India, we know this place very well😌.....To me a plastic shuttle can never substitute these feather ones🥰, there's hell difference in the quality, it's obv why they cost more.... A game of badminton🏸 just doesn't give the feel without the feather shuttle...☺
Thanks for bringing this video, even Indian media has not bothered to make a video on this.
i have 2 boxes of these dodo shuttles.. im glad i have them.
never knew it would be so special.
Stop buying natural products of those because it is bad for the enviorment and for people's lives and working conditions. Synthetic wins in birdie making
@@insectbite1714 then how will these guys earn? it will be end of a traditional art.

plastic is way more unbiodegradable than feathers..
plus the ducks which are used for feather making are eaten as a savoury meat food anyway.

Anyways.
Just google once "are duck feathers bio degradable".
Im sure you will get your answer.
And what trash are you talking about endangered animals?
First of all ducks are birds.
Second of all these species are grown and at the same time used for our purposes. Something like how fisheries work. There is a balance between the grown and used.
So ill acknowledge the fact that you like synthetic ones.
But whatever points you made here are invalid.
Feather shuttle's biodegrade and its a fact.
The glue used anyways would also be used in Synthetic ones so no use of talking about it.
The thread and epoxy resin itself is derived from tree sap.
Whereas your synthetic shuttle is basically a plastic bag.
It's a very sweet memory from my childhood as we used to play with this birdies in winter. ❤️❤️
Such great craftsmanship! I would live to own one of these shuttlecocks as an adornment for my home. One day I will get a bundle.

Synthetic ones are better. India is not doing anything good by making natural birdies
We need that Government of India and Government of West Bengal should financially support these Workers and Let these small business nourish and grow.
