Sorry to hear this, a lot of people were really hoping for a Max 2 this year. This may help sell some more X3’s for Insta360. Great information Mic, and thanks for sharing.
Thanks Ron. Fwiw I really like the x3 me mode. Very convenient.
The max 2 was my most anticipated camera. What a shame. X3 by insta will be replacing my max one. Unless they at least release some new better batteries.
The single lens mode on the max was amazing and had really hoped they pushed that mode further with MP4’s coming right off the sd card.
Hi World of Ozz. I agree it would have been nice to see a new max 2. As for single lens mode, if you like that, I think you will love the me mode in x3. I now use it most of the time!
@@360vroomers I have the x2 and x3 and in my side by sides the single lens mode works but you have extra steps. No direct mp4 on the sd card to bring right into the computer.
If insta would allow mp4 with their highest stabilization to not need to run through their app that would be a win for them. Especially now that max 2 is delayed.
@@SeanOzz when I use me mode I import all videos into insta360 studio, I can select all and export all. It is really fast and easy.
@@360vroomers all 360 content has extra steps reframing. It’s just part of the game and isn’t fast compared to a flat mp4 going straight into final cut. Is what it is though.
Me mode cuts out reframing but not the import export steps and doesn’t quite give the right framing for some things. Like snowboarding.
In terms of image quality Max is better than x3, the glass and the sensor is superior 👍👍in features the max3 is better, but as I had a bad experience with the 360 one R (it was not waterproof asbthey claim) I no longer trust in that brand, it seems that they launch they products without testing enough to ensure a good product
GoPro says there's no Max 2 in 2022. In this video I show the proof. I also show a new technique - how to get a 3rd person view without keyframing by simulating the Insta360 Me Mode for GoPro MAX (plus a comparison with X3).
Probably not even close max 2 was to any current competitor 360 models , plus Gopro software need rebranding. Was hoping big time that Gopro with new 360 closed gap between insta 360 but nothing :( Good bye gopro and hello Insta 360
Hi TetraGranula. It is kind of sad because GoPro has amazing hardware. If they use their sensor and processor for Max 2 I think it would be quite a good camera. But it seems they don't prioritize 360.
Damn, what is the best 360 camera I can buy in 2022?
IMHO: for video quality, 1-inch 360. For convenience, X3.
for me GoPro needs to melt 360 One RS 1" with the X3
So far, GoPro hasn't used sensors larger than 1/1.9. If they do use a 1-inch sensor, I think it is more likely that they'll do it first with an action cam like Hero, which is their core product. To do it on a 360 camera is risky for them.
Love the new video style! One wheel for the win! Here's hoping for another GoPro 360 camera in 2022 🤞
Thanks bro! Gives me a good excuse to get a tax deduction hahaha yes hopefully we see a max 2 eventually…
@@360vroomers Perhaps we'll see it in January; ....Please GoPro?
@@FlyerThanDrones possibly because of CES but tbh I don’t recall them releasing cameras in January…
Mic great vid
Thank you my friend! I hope the me mode is helpful for you :D
Still hoping for an affordable, reliable 8K 360 camera. I'm shooting 360 video that will stay 360, to be viewed on VR headsets.
Mic here's a video idea: If you HAD to shoot full 360 in 8K now, what are your recommended solutions now? And what do you think is coming? Thanks!
Hi Steve and Liz. The closest thing to an 8k 360 camera right now is the 1-inch 360, which has more detail than the Qoocam 8k. The 1-inch 360 has the best video quality under $2000, imho. ruclips.net/video/5C2HjoQpaH8/видео.html
4 cameras - they said a Professional Camera - for a Professional costing a lot more MONEY - show me IT -
Hi Michael. In the q4 earnings call they didn’t say they would do that in 2022. “And in other areas, we think that we can go even further and do even more than a HERO camera can in certain areas of performance where we just -- we have had ongoing demand and requests from our users for products like that.”
That's fine, the GoPro Max software is horrible. Insta360 software is so much better. Just ordered the insta360 X3
Congrats buddy! I’ve got something cool to show you in my next video - stay tuned!
I have the max and it’s cool but I just scooped up the x3 and I’m blown away! Trying to offload the max now.
I’m glad you are liking the X3! Congrats!
id be buying the insta 360 x3 if it was as waterproof as the gopro max but sadly it isn't so i'm stuck with the max i've broke 2 insta x2 from kiteboarding in the ocean so i'm very hard on my cameras but the gopro max has survived. the footage was that much better on the insta 360 too.
Hi kev2wheeling242. Sorry about your X2's and thanks for letting me know your Max survived. Another advantage of Max for situations like that is the better product replacement plan (one gopro subscription covers all GoPro cameras).
🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Love the topic and *discussion in comments* etc.
Timin with all the hype surroundin Insta360 can't be a co-incidence though
Thanks buddy! I'm hoping GoPro is preparing for next year. I hope they don't let the 360 market pass them by.
booooooooo. insta X2/x3 aren't there yet, audio is terrible, we need a max 2 with instant on and great audio !
Hi Kyle. X3 audio uses 48khz sampling. Sounds ok if you use a wireless mic imho.
Ha Ha! Come on Mic, GoPro are definately not waiting to be able to have a "big enough difference" to launch Max 2, as they are the king of repackage last years model, although insta360 is trying to claim that crown. 🤣But by not having a new max2 to compete with insta360 they are just handing the consumer 360 space to insta360 on a silver plate.
A Question. Do you know if my Comica BoomX D wireless mikes would work with the X3, Thanks
Hey there Ian! I completely agree that GoPro often makes minor changes to its Hero line. But that’s only possible because of its immense popularity and large market. Each change has a cost associated with it and they won’t incur that extra cost unless there will be a commensurate increase in sales. For Hero, even a minor update will result in big enough sales to justify the change. It can’t use the same strategy for Max because it sells far lower volumes. Re microphone it will work if it has a TRS 3.5mm jack.
the insta 360 colors just look so bad next to the GoPro
I personally prefer the GoPro colors as well but they can be tweaked to look like each other.
GoPro always manages to disappoint its customers. I had hoped so much for a Max II. Insta360 uses customers as cash cows. The lack of cable transmission and the lack of landscape support for iPads alone drove me to GoPro. However, the handling of GoPro+ is completely stupid. Why can't you renew your subscription if you buy two or more cameras? So GoPro forced me to sell cameras after GoPro+ expiration date. Just on principle. Who does the marketing there? Fire now!
I’m confused. I have a single GoPro subscription for $50/yr and it covers all my GoPros (I have more than 10).
@@360vroomers Same with me. However, if you buy a new camera, the GoPro subscription that comes with it and you have to pay for it won't renew your existing subscription. This is not customer friendly.
Thanks Mic. Well that settles it for me. X3 it is.
Thanks Brett! I like the x3. It’s the camera I’ve been using the most for convenience of me mode and other features.
That's a bummer. I was hoping to get one soon. It looks like I might be getting the Insta360 X3 instead. Do you prefer the Insta360 or the Max?
Hi TomyTek. Without a doubt i prefer the X3. Max has very good image quality but X3 is much easier to use. For example with max I have to do a lot of keyframing. On x3 I just use me mode and I’m done. No keyframing at all.
@@360vroomers thank you for your opinion. Have you ever tried connecting external power to it? I will be using it for kayak fishing and would have it connected to external power, so it can record all day. I'll also have to figure out how to make all the connection waterproof.
We could have had 5.7K 60fps 10 bit! This sucks. I was hopeful we'd get a Max 2 this year with 10 bit like on the Hero 11.
If GoPro uses the Hero 11 on a 360 camera, it would probably take the crown for best video. But I don’t know if GoPro has the willingness to do that.
@@360vroomers Even if they used two GP2 processors and Hero 11 sensor with each shooting at a modest 5.3K they could have 8K30, 6K60, at 10 bit, more detail for those who like to reframe and zoom in for MSRP of $800 and slightly less margin but it would sell. The Hero 11 Mini isn't much smaller than the Hero 11, it's very niche. Anyways, thanks for letting us know. Maybe next year ... GoPro could have the best 360 camera ... 1 inch sensor is not necessary!
@@BackusCreativeImaging yes it is definitely doable. It’s only a question of whether they care to do it or not.
Good thing I bought an X3, GoPro falling behind in the 360 world
Congrats on the X3! I hope GoPro catches up in 2023!
Congrats on the X3! I hope GoPro catches up in 2023!
Question can I connect a huge battery pack and record 6 to 8 hours straight with no interruptions or system blackouts/shutdowns?
No max can’t do that. It will overheat at some point. The longest endurance 360 cameras are the one R with vertical battery. I know it can record for several hours although I don’t know the limit. But every 30 mins there will be a 15 second gap.
@@360vroomers ok so only the 360 cams with the R in the model type or class?
Well this sucks. I guess I'll be getting away from 360. Because I'm not buying another insta360 camera ever.
Hi Karma. Sorry to hear that. What happened to your insta360?
@@360vroomers I don't like that the service takes so long. And very expensive. First experience was 180$ repair bill for a scratched lens. Plus it cost 120$ for shipping it to them them from Canada.
They quoted 120 for the lens replacement then hit me with a waterproof test fee when the got it back together. And I still ended up getting a different camera returned, they had it for almost two months before they shipped it back.
I also think they could have done much better with the x3.
But they're are pushing the 1" 360. And it's nothing special especially for 1200$ Canadian
@@karmaschannel6944 thanks I will pass along the feedback.
Great video thanks! And… awesome audio quality while driving!!! Good job man
Thanks! I used a rode wireless go ii which has a built in recorder. So even if the max doesn’t have audio input, I can get good audio. Just need to sync in post. 😅
Very nice footage. Thanks for the the GoPro overview....the X3 is very tempting too

What were you using to record the audio while you were riding?
Hi Jeff. I used Rode Wireless Go II
Thanks for the update. Oh well looks like I’m buying the Insta360X3.
Thanks buddy! Check out my review of the X3 which has a technique never seen before ruclips.net/video/V5EWMTzL6Y0/видео.html
are you sure about that ? They said they gonna release 4 camera this year so I hope they release the MAX 2 in 1 month
Hi Body. Yes as I mentioned in the video, GoPro already said it at least four times. No new max 2 in 2022.
After my horrible experience with my insta360 one r, I can safely say I will never ever buy an insta360 product ever again. Corrupted files, all the time, bugy glitchy screen, camera will turn off unexpectedly, battery meter is buggy and inaccurate. Latest firmware great sd card (tried with several). I just can't trust this company and their horrible qa and buggy cameras. Never again, I don't care that on paper insta is better than gopro max, I rather have an inferior product that is reliable than a "superior" product that is not
As a Fusion user I was looking forward to see what “Max2” would bring to the table. Obviously, Max didn’t impress me and neither their competition.
Hi Alternate Reality. I think Fusion's image quality is still pretty good. The main advantages of the newer cameras are with their workflow and convenience (e.g., touchscreen) etc. The X3 also has a new Me Mode that makes keyframing unnecessary
The max is definitely in need of a hardware upgrade as well as a software update for post production. The thing I like about Insta360 is their editing software for 360 footage. It has feature that make editing so much quicker like being able to select and track a subject. I don’t like however is that the cameras aren’t all that waterproof unless you get a bulky case. I do a lot of water sports so having a camera that is already waterproof like the Max. So I’m on the fence on whether to jump ship and trade in for a Insta360 or hold out hoping a new max will come out soon with better specs and improved post production features to edit with
Yes I agree. Insta360's strength is their software, while GoPro is more experienced at things like waterproofing. If there is a new max, i expect we'll see it october 2023.
Not really surprised TBH. But I have my x2/x3 & 1inch 360 so I’m all set for winter. Just waiting on my hero11 & action 3 arriving 🎉😂
Thanks and congrats Stewart! I like the Hero 11. Waiting for action 3 too haha!
Maybe there was one in the pipeline but with the specs of the insta 360 cameras, they had nothing to compete with.....
I hope they have something in the works. In terms of hardware, GoPro is quite capable and I think they can meet the specs of insta360.
@@360vroomers gopro is also more expensive......just bought the x3 ( with your link) and I am very happy with it.......use it mainly for timelapse......8k now......
@@Emmanuel_Tuts-Schiemsky Thanks Emmanuel! And I'll have more new techniques in my next video. I hope to finish by tomorrow or Monday. Stay tuned!
Gopro is sleeping at the wheel again lol. 360 cam is the future and I will not buy another action cam again now the iphone 14 action mode is pretty good. For wat I need 360 cam is the only way to go.
Hear, hear! I agree completely!
Your mic recording is very clear. what do you use for your mic?
Thanks I used a Rode Wireless Go 2. Max doesn’t have a mic input but Rode Wireless Go 2 can work as a recorder. Then I sync the audio and video during editing.
@@360vroomers nice thanks
@@dogsnadiaso no problem! Glad to help!
What 360 u using
Hi J. Tapia. For this video, I shot with GoPro Max except the final scene where I showed the Insta360 X3. I reviewed X3 here ruclips.net/video/V5EWMTzL6Y0/видео.html
I think GoPro is in a technology disadvantage versus insta360 and DJI, because the access to technology and all the politics in the middle, besides GoPro wants to remain loyal to the action cameras niche, but SONY has proved them wrong, and they need to open their minds to new users that do not practice sports, GoPro is a wonderful tool in a multi-camera configuration and if they improved their cameras, that would give them new customers oriented to content creation, they don´t have it easy, they have to innovate in order to thrive in the market and amaze the consumers.
Yes for an action sports company they seem to be quite conservative. I think it’s because they were barely surviving a few years ago so they are still very risk averse.
What about Ricoh Theta Z2?
They are working on it but have no ETA. I don’t know when they are releasing it. Not at ces afaik.
I think a cool idea would be to have a camera that could record 360 (5.7k+) and single lens (4k+) at the same time. When the R series first came out, I thought that's what it was. I love shooting in 360, but it's never quite as good as fitting that resolution into 150 degrees or whatever the FOV is. So until they can make quality better, it would be nice to have the option of a super crisp flat video to cut into your 360 video.
Hi Eric. The X3 has a 4K single lens mode but it's upscaled. To be able to have a single circular fisheye lens that records stabilized 4K video in 16:9, I believe the sensor has to be 6K. What I do is that when I need detail, I use my phone's video :D
@@360vroomers
Hi Mic. I'm just talking about having a single lens camera and a 360 camera at the same time. The R is modular but either you're shooting 360 or you're switching out the module for the flat lens. I would like to shoot both at the same time and somehow have them linked to each other. Let's say you want something super crisp and detailed at the end of your clip but you want to focus in other areas in the beginning of the clip. You could do all your reframing from the 360 footage, and set the final key frame to be the flat footage, and somehow it would seamlessly come together. But it's probably a better idea to figure out how to just get more resolution out of the 360 camera, then we wouldn't have to worry about combining 2 cameras into one 😉.
@@EricBrown-gz4qu a long time ago I asked insta360 to let the nano switch to the iPhone camera in real time. But they didn’t understand how it would be useful.
Wait a minute... how did that happen? At the 1:14 min, you weren't talking, but the voice over was still there and there was no cut away?
I coordinated the audio of two video clips so it made it sound seamless. 😁
Nice video Mic) Thank you for ideas and thoughts) nice riding)
Spasibo Andreev! 😀
Wow big news, thank you. Now insta for sure needs to offer a trade in for existing x2 as well as gopro max. Then gopro is out....
Thanks Wiljan. Since RS 1-inch 360 and x3 are so new I think it’s not likely that they will have trade in for those. But maybe around ces they will have a trade in program that lets you get a discount toward the cost of a new camera.
it be released in 2023?
Hopefully but we don’t know. GoPro usually releases products in September or October so probably we won’t hear anything until august 2023 or something.
maybe they doing a joke about that
Hi Body. A joke like that would cost them money in lost sales from people buying other cameras. So I don’t think they would joke about it.
@@360vroomers you are right the things it's Go pro it's like Apple and Insta 360 lie Samsung I have Everything on Go pro but the quality of the X3 it's just amazing so the thing it's to buy the go pro max or the insta 360 ?

It’s not the news we want but it’s better to know… ☺️
@@360vroomers 100% agree, I was waiting for a new gopro max so didn't buy anything else. Now I can get something. Thanks!
I think it's because of hype around the Insta360 release wave. Perhaps, 2023 will be more quiet/calm so Max will compete in more comfortable marketing environment?
Hi flaj. That's possible, although GoPro is such a big company that I think they are not so afraid of Insta360.
I feel like you might be onto something. Even though Gopro is the bigger company, and they probably aren't afraid of little Insta360, they are obviously behind Insta360 in the 360 game. Maybe they planned to push out a new 360 camera, but Insta360 keeps putting something out that is superior, so Gopro pulls back until they can put out something to compete.
@@EricBrown-gz4qu No that they are afraid. I would say "optimalisation" ;).

Thanks Kendizle. You might also be interested in the x3 which has some features that make keyframing unnecessary ruclips.net/video/GhpEnFKD26I/видео.html
@@360vroomers yeah I was nearly sold on the X3, but the size & shape doesnt suit me. Mostly bike riding videos on road gravel & MTB
Hi Kendizle. When you say the shape doesn't match MTB, were you planning to put it on your helmet? I know lots of cyclists who use 360 and there are many ways to mount it. On the helmet, it doesn't have to stand straight up. It's 360 so you can have it lying horizontally to be more aerodynamic. The video will still be level. Other cyclists wear a kind of belt and attach a selfie stick to it (search "insta360 back bar"). But the more common way is to mount it on the handlebar, which lets you switch between a POV shot from above the wheel to a shot of you pedaling.
@@360vroomers mostly road and gravel cycling these days. Not keen on helmet mounts. Prefer chest and handlebar mounting. I think I'm more sold on the company & past Hero purchases.
@@360vroomers I also feel I'm so accustomed to the small square design and protective case of the GoPro. I can only dream about what a new improved Max would look like in terms of spec
You can also have camera with lenses facing left and right instead of up and down, then there's no need to disable horizon lock.
Yes true although there is a chance your face could be in the stitch line so you need to be mindful of that.
@@360vroomers I ride snowboard, and move a lot, so usually I'm not on the stitch line. Diagonally also works, basically, anything, besides flat (lenses up and down).

Thanks Gaurav!
I did suspect all along that the mention of "four" GoPro lines would just mean that they would keep selling the original Max. The thing I wish they would improve is the GoPro player and how it converts crisp and colourful native 360 footage into muddy-looking and soft MP4 files, even at Cineform/High 5.6k
Thanks for the feedback Rikky! Is that with Player 2.0? I think Player 2.0 improved the rendering a bit.
@@360vroomers Yeah this is with Player 2 - I find if I compare converted MP4's with the original footage in the GoPro player, the original footage looks much nicer. It's the same with reframed and full 360 footage.
Turn the lenses to the side. Not up and down to avoid the spin.
Thanks that's a cool tip! I still think it would be better if the user didn't have to worry about which way the lenses were facing, so that it can truly be a "shoot first point later" camera.
Good video
I hope you're right, I love 360 video and gopro.
