  • Wawa was six years old when he was accused of being a witch and marked for death by his cannibal tribe in the Indonesian province of Papua. 14 years later, he travelled back to the village with Matt Doran to reunite with his family and spread a message of tolerance.     As soon as I saw him as a child, my heart broke and the tears came. He had so much raw fear on his face. No child should ever have to feel this type of fear. So glad that Wawa is doing well and loved by so many. Such a beautiful soul.

    The man who took that little boy in and raised him into such a wholesome young man, he definitely has a great spot picked out for him in heaven. Both are inspirational. And let’s not forget the uncle!!! He stockpiled arrows to try and keep him safe! Just an unreal story all around!

    I cried and cried. I also noticed that when Wawa left, he gave his sling bag and bright mud boots to his brother. He probably gave all of his stuff away anyway. Wawa left on old flip flops. I'm still in tears as I'm writing this. God bless his adoptive family. Hats off to Channel 7 for paying Wawa's school, among others. What a happy ending. Thank you Channel 7, great journalism/coverage....

    I shed a real tear when they showed him eating dinner with his foster family and when his brother said “there is nothing different between him and me, he is my brother” 🥺😭😭 man that’s so sweet. 🙏🏾 there are some really good people in this world ❤

    I cried when he met his sister, brother and uncles. Such an emotional reunion. A fine young man he turned out to be. Even his uncle was willing to sacrifice his life to save Wawa. I only wish the little children in his village can get a chance to be educated like Wawa did.

    Now this is some journalism, investigative, result driven and realistic in every way and i take my hat off to Channel 7 and 60 Minutes. Definitely brought tears to my eyes.     Kornelus is amazing to bring Wawa into his own home. Also let's give a lot of credit to his uncle - he was doing whatever he could to save Wawa, whether he had outside help or not.

    It was already hard seeing the footage of him when he was young but now it truly shakes me to my core. He has the most beautiful, bright smile. The world almost lost this gift of a human.
    I don’t know Wawa, his foster family, or the reporter team but I feel extremely grateful for all their efforts. I hope they all know how loved and appreciated they are. Especially the reporters who must’ve gotten lots of flak for getting involved instead of staying impartial and just putting out the news.
    It’s an honor to see the worlds little marked boy all grown up and happy. We never stopped rooting for y’all. We never will.

    I was just a kid when I saw a documentary on 60 minutes about Wawa,we were of same age then and now. Seeing this documentary about Wawa after 14 years brought me to tears. Cornelius you're a beautiful soul thanks for saving Wawa from the cannibalistic tribe back then and brought him to your home to raised him as your own.

    The internal strength Wawa must have to have gone through such a hard life is unknowable to most of us…and even though it was good he found a new family, even that would be hard. Imagine having to leave everything and everyone you’ve ever known and going to such a foreign place. He’s truly amazing and I hope he has the most amazing life ever and he is able to help his people and bridge the gap between his old life and new life.

      I am too.
      I wonder what the evolutionary reasons are for such superstitious behavior within a tribe. I don't mean to be crass, but meat is nutrient dense. Perhaps this an adaptation to gain more nutrition, despite being so maladaptive for those who are being consumed.

    Apparently the main guy of the first documentary asked 60 minutes for help getting WaWa out. They REFUSED!!!!!🤬🤬🤬 So he went to a rival network and asked for help there. They said yes. I’m not sure what happened after that since the article I was reading said they were deported before they could reach WaWa. But obviously it all ended up working out which is the most important thing! I was so happy to see he made it out! God bless everyone who helped him, especially his foster father and family.

    I am absolutely touched by Wawa story, Wawa is a natural born leader, this young man and his family are in my prayers, I hope Wawa can return to his people, he could make a big difference for them all. I ask for anyone reading my comment to please keep Wawa younger brother Davy in their prayers, he is in almost the same situation Wawa was in and look how Wawa turned out. I was so blessed watching this documentary watching through tears also while smiling seeing the young man Wawa turned out to be. The gentleman that helped Wawa had to see good in Wawa, I would like to say thank you sir for helping Wawa, we all need people in our lives that see good in others .God bless you all.

    Thank God Wawa is safe.I saw the original documentary and cried at the sight of the poor frightened little boy.I dreamt of running out there and scooping him up and saving him.Thank God somebody else had that vision too and could save him.

    This is my 3rd time to watched this brilliant Documentary since i've watched 6 months ago it always brings tears on my eyes every time i am watching this one.Hope to have a follow up documentary if Wawa return in his village after finish his schooling i am so eager to know about his current status💟

    This story was really moving. I want to follow every step of this young mans journey to reclaim his place with his tribe while helping them, protecting their ancient traditions (not the cannibalism and killing) and there lands.

      I AM REALLY HAPPY TOO AND YES HE HAS MORE FAMILY THAN MOST. VERY GOOD BLESSINGS FROM OUR LORD. GOD BLESS YOU. I EVEN PRAYED FOR HIM THIS MANY YEARS LATER TO LIVE AFTER SEEING THE FIRST FILM WHERE HE WAS 6 YEARS OLD, AND WAS GOING TO DIE. AND THEN CAME UPON THIS FILM AND SAW HE WAS SPARED. THANK JESUS. I KNOW HE WAS MEANT TO BRING A MESSAGE TO HIS TRIBE AND FAMILY OF NEW BEGINNINGS.

    God bless Wawa, his foster family, and those children and the uncle left behind. What an amazing, story. I was so glad to see that he had been rescued, the fear on his face as a little boy, who just lost his parents, to be facing something like that... man that's rough... thank God he was saved..     I suggest that if Wawa went back (on his own) to be among his "family" ... the moment he tried to change the culture, he would once again be labeled as an evil sorcerer and murdered. What is perceived as being "normal" in any culture, is not at all easy to change. For change to come ... history proved over and over again ... that many people (within the groups) must first die.

    I am so touched to see this beautiful young man so embraced with life, happiness and an amazing family life. I remember that young boy, seeing them leave him there broke my heart.

    I saw the 60 minutes story first and then this popped up right after. I could not stop watching these. It's not staged, made up crap that you see nowadays. This is history, raw history. This is how things used to be before the world evolved into what we know now. I knew there were still tribes but I thought they did not bring in outsiders. This was an amazing documentary and my heart was so touched by Wawa's story. I hope his brother gets to come live with him. ❤

    I wish Wawa finished his schooling and be the leader to change their primitive belief. He was loved by his family salute to his father. I also liked the way how they presented this documentary. Channel 7 thanks for supporting Wawa for giving him the second chance of life. 🙏

    Absolutely amazing story! Thank you, to the adopted parents of Wawa, especially to CHANNEL 7! That tv station should be commended admirably for a complete selfless act! I don't know a thing about channel 7 but I'm going to find out because they are now the best station in the world!
