In defence of the big music stand: paper copy of set list to check keeping to time; if I am doing chat between numbers, somewhere to keep notes; useful in rehearsal if there is a new paper chart to sight-read.
👍
It's a video I've wanted for years!!! I've been struggling with how to switch to using my iPad because of the screen size. I too have aging eyes and like the backlighting. Besides the cost of ForScore is about the same as a music folder. No more toting stand lights!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
These are awesome iPad tips, Jamie. The bonus tip you give for the iPad cheat sheet is pure gold. It's the little things we sometimes overlook that can make the biggest difference. As always GREAT JOB, THANK YOU.
My pleasure!
THIS IS GOLD!!! Thank you so much for this information!
You're so welcome!
OMG!!! my life has just been fixed 😂. Thanks Jamie
Awesome!
This is exactly what I was going to ask for this month’s question. Thanks Jamie!!
Glad it was helpful!
oh my days thank you so much you have no idea how useful this is!
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful! Thanks!
You're welcome!
It is very interesting, Mr Anderson! Great advice. Thanks!
My pleasure!
Thank you so much!
You're welcome
Great video!!!👏👏
Thank you!!
Been working out Jaime💪😂. Sax practice for the brain, and kettlebells for the body🏋️
🤣 Thank Mel for the KBs!
Como sempre ótimas dicas, esse é meu canal número um para estudar saxofone.
Muitíssimo obrigado mr Anderson.
Thanks! 🙏🏻
I have used an ipad with Deepdish Gigbook for a few years now. No light etc and no wind clips. Biggest problem is direct sunlight. I had my ipad heat up and shut down for about ten millions. LOL. luckily It was my one of my originals. Great Jamie.
Thanks for sharing!
Superb! Thankyou so much (in anticipation as I haven't got an iPad yet!)
🙏
Brilliant tips, thank you. One more is to use iPad screen to reflect your sound if you "tune by ear"❤
Yeah it’s a good sound reflector.
Good info for the future day when I have an i-Pad.
Cool!
Managed to do it, can only get four staves on a page, can’t find how to make them smaller
Ok. Google it or RUclips it I guess?
I do have forScore. Great software.
Cool 😎
Dear Jamie
how do you organise your sheet music on the ipad in Forscore if you want to see the processes on the one hand and the sheet music on the other? On 2 pages and then switch? or on 2 pages and then landscape-style?
Many thanks for a tip
Ueli
Sorry, not sure what you mean?
Hi Jamie, great tips as always!! You’ll have to forgive me for this question but where do change the settings themselves on my iPad to amend the document setup margins as per your cheat sheet? Is it in forScore itself or can I find them somewhere else on my iPad. I’ve been searching the settings but cannot find where to change them. Thanks , B
Page settings are for setting up the music in the first place, not for the iPad itself
I love to reset the page settings but .... I can not find it on my IPad. Where do I go? Please help!
Page settings are for when you make a chart, not for the iPad.
Brilliant
Thanks!
@@GetYourSaxTogether I think the idea of rethinking/imagining what music typesetting is aiming to do is spot on. My only comment is do you have a template for an Android dimension tablet (I don't even know if they are standardised). I know a few people who use them!
Hope you're well old chap 🙂
Most of my music is on PDF format do I have to manually copy each one into the new format or can it be reformatted somehow?
The page set up is for new charts really.
Love your Videos. Is there a forscore for my pc pad. Thanks. Ray
Not sure about that!
ForScore is IOS only - A trumpet player that I play with has Mobile Sheets Pro for Android - it is pretty nice, but I love ForScore-used it for about 8 years.
Really helpful Jamie. Thanks. I use an iPad to view my band’s PDF lead sheets all the time. But a couple of years ago Apple introduced a thumbnail menu button on the left hand side of Preview which I can’t remove. Sooooo annoying! Do you, or anyone, know how to remove this? Many thanks.
I've been using Books app on my iPad to view PDF lead sheets. It works with the page turner, and you can organise documents into collections. (And there's no reason why a document can't be in more than one collection - so you could make a temporary collection for all the sheets you need for a specific event.)
thanks Ian. I'll give that a try.@@ian_g_wilson
Why don’t you get ForScore instead?
@@GetYourSaxTogether I actually have just got ForScore, which I didn't know about until I watched this video. (But just pointing out that Books works better than Preview for this.)
You have convinced me that I should make the jump from paper to tablet. However, how can one transfer the old paper stuff to tablet? Does it require buying the old stuff again in electronic format? Please help this dinosaur?🙂
ForScore (the PDF reader application) has a built-in scanning app that does an excellent job of converting paper to PDF. It enables you to crop tightly and automatically straightens & brightens the page(s). Ideally, have good light, and the sheet music against a dark background with the iPad set in a holder/clamp and line them up parallel
Just scan it I guess. You can use your phone.
@@GetYourSaxTogether Muchos gracias signor 😁 Thanks for your time.
Useful for some, less for others.
For example, a lot of our band music is hardcopy, some even hand-written. Some of it is so bad, that I actually put it into a music notation program. (and yes, then margins make not that much sense, even when printing it out.) I've seen music for marching booklets printed out on A4.
A typesetter is not going through all the parts (for all instruments) and format these for A4, iPad, generic tablet , etc, to have custom line- and pagebreaks, multiple bar rests, repeat sections, etc. That's just too much of a hassle and so error prone.
Most of us get just handed out the hardcopy or a PDF (if we're lucky.) Good luck with that. Great tips if you have a digital copy and able to control the layout.
This is all true. 😮💨
Where in Forscore is custom page size screen?
You don’t make charts in ForScore, you just read the PDFs in there.
Anybody sorted out how to set up for musescore??
I don’t use it but the page sizes etc should hold.
I’ve tried several times but the PDF files from this episode don’t get sent I don’t have the problem with any of your other, RUclips downloads
It's a zip file - PDF and template. email info@getyoursaxtogether.com and the team will sort you out
Will you show us what it looks like please?
I did a bonus vid inside the Inner Circle for that. 👍🏻
I know, I know. i think it is because many people who write music on their computers are not sight readers and have not the experience or the education in sight reading.
Possibly. Sure.
Turn off the lock screen?
Oh yeah, that as well!
Can an Android tablet work for this?
That I don’t know. Surely there’s something?
I use a Microsoft Surface Pro (bigger and cheaper) with MobileSheets.
@@christopherbarnett9825 Thanks, used ones really cheap on Ebay.
Surely a typo, Tablet rather than Ipad?
Well, I don’t know anyone that uses a tablet other than an iPad, but yeah, there must be an app for android or whatever.
Not working
What isn't working? Send an email to info@getyoursaxtogether.com and we'll get you sorted
Why did you delete my comment about Sibelius?
? Nothing deleted
I have no iPad.
Ok. 👍🏻
