    *ForScore App (Organize music) $15 - apps.apple.com/us/app/forscor...
    Optional:
*iPad music stand (comes with sweet shoulder bag) - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01...

    Apps:

0:12 - Type of iPad to get
0:45 - Reason #1: Weight of iPad compared to bag of binders of music
1:22 - Reason #2: Easy access to all of your music
1:53 - Reason #3: Easy to organize setlists for different gigs
2:20 - Reason #3.5: Easily compose all your own music (apple pen - forscore)
2:43 - Reason #4: Seamless page turns with foot page turner
3:05 - Reason #5: Great for outdoor gigs - wind won't blow your music off the stand
3:29 - Reason #6: Light from iPad can illuminate your harp strings instead of stand light when it starts to get dark outside for cocktail hour or dinner reception
3:55 - Reason #7: Neat apps you can get (ForScore, Staffwars, iStrobosoft)
4:18 - Reason #8: Easily e-mail music to other musicians
4:36 - Reason #9: Easily organize setlists for weddings - store their contract, song list, details, songs on their setlist
5:00 - Reason #10: Store information (contracts, song list, etc.) forever - don't have to keep binders with old info
5:20 - Reason #11: Easily arrange and markup music without it being permanent
The iPad is expensive but is life changing for a professional gigging musician and worth every penny!

Me too! Super helpful, Adrienne. You answered all the questions I had, and more! I'm a pianist with a TON of music... so weary of taping and memorizing page turning moments. And filing and pulling and all that. I just need to decide if I should go with the 2nd or 3rd generation now. And would your stylus work on those as well? Also, to white out notes, you just color over them? Another pianist uses the Donner pedal, which is cheaper than yours. Any more bits of advice about the pedal? She said it took her a good two months of practice before she felt comfortable using in public performances, mostly because of getting used to the pedal.

Thanks for the review. I've been considering this for some time, and you make a great case. I'm still on the fence because I do have trust issues. (And I'm a paper lover, not naturally drawn to digital tools.) Have you really never had a crisis, like-- battery died, page turner didn't turn a page, etc.? Thanks again!

    • @dreplaysharp
      @dreplaysharp  4 года назад +3

I used to be that way too but *knock on wood* haven't had an issue with it shutting off. I keep a binder of music in my car in case something were to happen and keep a portable battery charger in my bag just in case I need it but I just charge the iPad fully the night before a gig. I've been using it for about 4 years now. Love it.

Have a good question for you. Years ago I recorded many tracks on my Tascam DP-03. I know that I can export the WAVs into my computer as stems to edit, but I'm curious if I buy a 2019 iPad Air, running iOS 13+, will I be able to directly see the TASCAM mounted as a USB external drive that I can import and export files back and forth without dealing with a PC or Mac? I would love to continue to work on them straight into the awesome iPad apps ie, Cubasis, Beatmaker 3, GB, Arturia Pro, Blocs Wave, ect....... Seems possible, but I'm not sure how the iPad handles such partitions, since there is no standard protocol available or is there?

Hi Adrienne: In the interest of saving money, even on a refurbished unit, I was considering, as a clarinet player, purchasing an IPad Air or Standard for reading music--possibly placing it in landscape mode and using a foot pedal.
Especially with the ForScore app's crop feature, I'm figuring that the musical notes image won't be smaller than the printed page, even if only half a page is displayed this way, and using a footpedal....something not easy for some harp players to use, I know.
Is this a really bad idea in your opinion. Should I splurge for the 12.9" Pro instead?

Why spend all that money on an overpriced iPad when other tablets at a much friendlier price are available. No doubt the iPad is a fab piece of kit but has loads and loads of features that you will never use but still are paying for. A second hand Android Pad will do what is required at a fraction of the cost. My music teacher paid £75 for his pad on a well known auction site and it does all that is required.
