Life-Like is such a strange beast. On one hand, they did make a lot of cheap and nasty toy-grade trains as you mentioned, but they also made Proto 2000, one of the best HO scale lines for the money.
A really nice selection of locos Dave, you got some great bargains there. Your fave loco looks superb and I'd imagine that's the best canditate for DCC. I really like your steamer, I've got a real soft spot for those. All the best. Brian
In its day, at 2,400 hp, the most powerful single unit diesel loco in the world. Fairbanks Morse formerly put this loco's prime mover into US navy submarines!
AHM=Old Tech. You were absolutely right about the pickups on alternate sides, very standard in the past. Where the steam loco is concerned, Chessie actually did run one painted like that for a steam special. Late 70's? It was larger than a mikado, though. Reading 2-10-4? Not sure, but close enough. Also of note- I think the Model Power F unit is an F2 (read early F3). Nice haul.
Great finds!. I was looking through all my trains today and found an AHM Santa Fe RS-2 ,that i got when i was ten yrs old (1982) . It still runs just as great as when it was new.
I have to say you made off like a bandit. A little cleaning and you will have some good runners. I agree the BC Rail dash nine is the gem of the lot. Take care. Sean.
Greetings From Colorful Colorado, I am so jealous of your finds. Wish I could have been there with you. I think a 3 window locomotive is an E-8. The 2 window units are the F series. John
Nice haul Dave. The Southern Pacific is an Athearn H24-66 Trainmaster. The PMI Santa Fe is an FP45. Almost looks like it has Athearn tooling inside. The CN 6511 is a Model Power F2A. Hope that helps you. ENJOY!
Thanks Ean. Any idea what the Union Pacific is? It's the quietest runner I have ever owned. It has a large motor, two flywheels, and a small motherboard on top. Very heavy too.
The 2-8-2 locomotive is equipped with a smoke unit. It shouldn't be run unless there's fluid in it. Otherwise the heater element will burn and melt the plastic shell. I'd also reccomend putting the decoder in the BC Rail Dash 9, especially if yout put all the detail parts on it.
FYI; when looking at the bottom of the fuel tank and you see that 4 hole [pattern it is athearn (2 holes for switchers) That is the easy way to spot Keep in mind the inside have changed over the years. You see different types of flywheels , some without. And extra weights. And sometimes slightly different wheel sets
@@ScottRails if has the open blue box motor be sure to get a DCC board that can power it. They take a little more power than some cheap DCC boards can't handle

All are favorites in my book, i have that same chessie tender behind a Lionel HO 4-6-2, sadly its missing parts and is a very unsual looking and oddball 0-6-0, but yeah Lionel made ho back then in the 40s and early 2000s and they do again now though its not as cool The BC Rail is An Athearn Dash 9, BC Rail Dash 9S were known as C44-9WL, and hade a Canadian style Wide Cab, which a majority of the bc rail dash 9 fleet CN Still owns to this day, tho very few still wear bc rail paint. Great Video As Always Dave!, as a fan of CSX and Chessie, that sd40 is just awsome, better to buy new old stock than trying to buy all brand new stuff that costs an arm and a leg, I’ll gladly buy an athearn bluebox over a newer model anyday if it means better running from the start!, and keep up the good work and amazing content!
Thank you so much. I also love the Athearn blue box stuff. I'm not sure I will ever be able to justify spending 300+ dollars on a loco, just because it makes noises and has more detail, plus my eyesight can't tell the difference, lol.
Thanks for stopping by my table at the show. Nice to meet the famous RUclipsr Scott Rails.
Hahaha, no problem. I'm guessing you're the guy I didn't buy anything from? Sorry about that. Maybe next time.

I think putting the decoders into the FA's as a consist would be neat...
Old Athearn with metal flywheels for the SP. Will run forever! An Alco Trainmaster.
I think an old Athearn Blue Box will even outlast cockroaches.
Trainmaster was Fairbanks Morse

I can imagine a Chessie Tour train hauled by the steamer with the diesel as standby helper. Off course they would both need decoders to run together.

Hi! Great layout. About your Southern Pacific 3034, the Trainmaster was originally built by Fairbanks-Morse.
I think you're right. I looked it up on Wiki. I need to make some hand rails for it.
Greetings From Colorful Colorado,

Great haul Dave. All in really great condition too!
I was quite particular this time. Pleased with my haul.

@@ScottRails That is a Life-Like Proto 1000 F3A. This was Life-Like's path to manufacturing locos with similar tooling to Athearn.
Well they did a great job. I love it. @@eanferrell
@@eanferrell Just be aware of the proto gear issue. They copied the blue box, but the copy had cheaper gears. Some use blue box wheels sets to fix
@billfusionenterprise You needn't remind me, lol. I said similar not improve upon Athearn's tooling.
Hi Scott the BC Rail but by now it is accomplished. Cheers
My personal favourite has got to be the 2-8-2 steam loco Dave. I'd certainly fit the decoder onto that last engine that you ran,it really deserves it.

Great haul! Forgot about the show😮Ended up putting a new roof on the G Scale station&changing the oil in the girlfriends mini😋.
I never have to worry about putting oil in my wife's Mini. It's electric, lol.
Love the BC Rail one! You’re going to have to extend your layout with all those new locos!
The wall next to me is definitely on borrowed time, lol.

nice haul Dave i love locos that do not run so i can fix them👍
Some cool purchases for your layout
It was a great show James.
Love your channel 👍🏼
The BC rail may have the DCC plug inside
Unfortunately not. Looks like a basic athearn system under there.

That is quite the haul! What time did you arrive at the show?
I can't remember if I got that one at opening time, but it would have been morning.
The cheesie steamer is a promotion thing that the C&O did, although I think it was a nothern and not a mikado. It was a tourist train special
I just can't imagine a steam train in North America that wasn't black, lol

I was wondering where that Dash 9 went lol oh well i ended up with a beautiful SP instead.
Sorry Robert, I HAD to have it, lol.
We Are Looking Forward to Go to Train Show.
Where are you?
In Wis.
the grey hi hood locomotive is a athearn
Dcc the steam loco much more to see on them and steam whistles etc

I like them all but the old coal cheasie is my favorite.
although i wonder if real one was coal or oil, tourist type train
im in toronto ontario, where and when could i go to one of these train shows?
If you are on Facebook, there is a dedicated group for local train shows. facebook.com/groups/1451045735127497
Only excursions and Chessie( CSX predecessor) did not have one 😀
Knuckle Or Hornhook you Model Well And Balance Good Sweet Collection👍
Eventually I will have everything knuckle, but for now, horn hook is more reliable, especially going down hill for some reason.

Santa Fe Engines Hell Yeah!
I need more yellow santa fe locos in my life. Pretty rare tho.
Yep Them Too.
The Thing of Train Shows Always Do your Homework Before Goin to Train shows..

Did you miss the part where I said I tested them with a 9V battery?lol.
@ScottRails yes but you should always test the locomotive at the show before you buy them on the test track or a layout
