    I practice this exercise with my clients often who deal with anxiety and anger challenges. They've mentioned often how helpful it is and how they didn't realize how they were carrying tension in different parts of their bodies. Thank you for creating this!!💚💚💚

    When I was growing up I had insomnia, my Mother told me to do this on nights where it was extra hard for me to sleep. She didn't know it was called "progressive muscle relaxation" or anything but somehow she knew this was good for me.

    This may be called progressive muscle relaxation (trendy name), but It's one of many basic yoga relaxation techniques. Been teaching yoga, and this particular relaxation and other relaxation techniques for many years.

    • @SilentMedley
      @SilentMedley 2 года назад +1

      Progressive Muscle Relaxation is not a trendy name, nor a new practice. PMR was developed by Dr. Edmund Jacobson in 1922. He published "Progressive Relaxation" in 1938. Yoga has origins as old as Sanskrit itself, but (and I could be wrong, I am not a yoga instructor or expert) I believe that Yoga Nidra is the closest to PMR, and those origins were documented in the 1960s by Swami Satyananda Saraswati. Regardless of which origins are older, PMR took a practice and hypothesis, and gave it scientific and clinical efficacy 100 years ago (hardly "trendy"). Jacobson is responsible for PMR, and its very much not trendy name, reaching countless more souls than would have otherwise. Additionally, by starting peer reviewed, longitudinal, quantitative, and qualitative studies - as well as forming the Smith scale - PMR has allowed this type of exercise to be recommended, prescribed, and taught to those who otherwise would not have had the means or knowledge for decades, and has forced our broken capitalistic healthcare system to pay for it (but not Yoga). I would say neither PMR, nor Yoga, deserve to be slighted as "trendy" or have their value decreased.

    The only problem with this is that you say "breathe in and notice the air filling your lungs". Most people only breathe with the top of their torso, which is shallow breathing. As a mindfulness meditation volunteer-teacher, I prefer breathing into my lungs AND tnen my abdomen.
