Another outstanding video! You make it all look so easy! The Adirondacks are on my bucket list. While I've only done one overnighter, I pack every outing like its an overnighter. I keep refining my kit and saying to myself how does everyone else only have one bag. In my post covid body I can only huck 20# a few miles.
Thank you. I really appreciate the compliment. I can fit quite a load int that 100L dry backpack. My canoe weighs only about 23-24 lbs so that is a big help. On this trip I packed dehydrated food which weighs nothing... and I carried no water... I filtered or boiled it all. Carrying liquids is a weight killer. My hammock sleep setup only weighs 5 lbs. Figuring out what gear to bring can be a challenge... but it is also a lot of fun to dial it in over time. Hopefully you get to the Adirondacks... you'll love 'em.
19 ponds as an overnight trip was a bit ambitious... mostly because the filming slowed me down. But I loved this trip. The wind on the last pond, Hoel Pond, was out of hand. If I would've waited 10 minutes it would have blew past. Thanks for watching... much appreciated.
I’ve crossed Hoel Pond 3 times and twice it was whitecaps all the way!! Enjoyed the two videos. I would agree to skip Mud and take the carry, we didn’t and wished we would have. Stay safe!!
Thank you. I have a love hate relationship with Hoel (mostly love). It is such a beautiful pond... but dang when that wind picks up it can get pretty interesting. Mud pond was pretty much surrounded by mud. Go figure. But once on the water it was beautiful. The Tamaracks were really lit up. Enjoy the upcoming paddling season.

Hey Scott. Thanks. I think you're referring to the small tan pad that I put on the shoulder strap for the Bill Bag? I love how that worked out. The idea just popped in my head and it made handsfree carrying possible at times. It really locks the boat down on my shoulder.

I know they have trail crews that work on the trails over in the Peaks it would be nice if they spent a couple of summers on the carry trails in the St Regis area - Loved your video great job.
Hey Martin..... yeah... the carries around Mud pond are really brutal... and that carry Between Bessie Pond to Long Pond has one half mile stretch that really kicked my @ss with all the deep mud pits. But overall I loved the carries and wouldn't hesitate to do them again. I'm an Adirondack 46er and have seen my share of trail erosion in the high peaks... these trails were pretty nice and soft comparatively. Thanks for watching and the nice compliment.
Thanks Joe. That wind was rough. That wind when I first started paddling on Long Pond came out of nowhere and was blowing me all over the place. It was really swirling. Thankfully it passed as quick as it came.
Thanks Andrew. I'm glad you enjoyed the trip. The canoe is sub 25 lbs and my pack another 25-30... I'm 6'3" 235 lbs so not too bad to carry for me... and no yoke needed. That 1.6 mile was a bear in spots... several muddy flooded out sections I wish I filmed in more detail.
I do love the Nine Carries. You have captured the essence of those carries exceptionally well. Great job. Question 1: Did you get a shuttle back to your car from Hoel pond to Upper St. Regis? I have done it a couple ways. Portage the rail road to Little Clear pond. I’ve also taken route 30. I couldn’t tell you which one is better they are both really long. 😂 Question 2: Would you mind sharing you camera setup with us?
Thanks a lot DMD. I rode a bicycle from Hoel Pond back to the put in right after I finished. Needless to say I was pretty whooped. But it made the burger and beer taste all that much better afterwards. Lol.

Hi and thank you for the super nice compliment. I actually have no formal videography training... just RUclips University as they say. I own a business in Syracuse, NY which is in the creative industry... so I think that helps from the creative perspective. I have become good friends with Joe Moore (the owner/builder) ever since I picked up my boat.
@@CanoeCampClimb Joe seems like a nice guy. I was going to get a PBW Rapid Fire but unfortunately he is a year out so I wouldn't get it until after next season is already over. I ended up going with my second choice the Swift cruiser 14.8. Hopefully it serves me as well as the Rapid Fire. Maybe in the future I can grab a rapid fire when one of my sons gets a hand me down. :)
@@AbundantAdventures Yeah... the wait times can be tough. Most of my friends have made the switch this year.. some just received their boats and some will be coming late next year. The Swift Cruiser is a nice boat... my wife has the shorter one and uses it from time to time. You can see it in some of the videos. David Yost designed the Cruiser and Rapidfire so the general shape is vey similar.
@@CanoeCampClimb that was my thinking in getting the cruiser. The shape and everything seem so very similar so they were my top 2 choices. Although I'll admit, I wanted the rapid fire as my first choice mainly because I prefer to buy as local as possible especially when it's quality. I do plenty of pre-planning before the trip... and I always carry my paddle map. And I've been blessed with a really good sense of direction. Now that I sound cocky and so sure of myself I will likely get lost on my next trip. Lol.
Yes we’re you’re kind of people. I’ve been considering trying to get up to Lydia pond and fish but might be outside of my current abilities. Thank you for filming that horrible muddy portage as I’m strength training this winter and clearly I would need it !

I started from little clear pond to st Regis pond. I’m anxious to explore more of this wilderness when the ice melts!
