I am currently building a 12x8 shed and am useing good plywood at side painted and shiplap at front with old house door and window pvc if it last 6 years am happy
Like ChuckNorrisUltra below, I too am planning a chicken coop/smoking shed for my wife and need a door for her 10x10 shed area. The chicken coop with be attached, but separated by a wall. Now I know how to build a simple shed door. Thx for sharing. Also included in the build will be a storage closet area for feed and supplies. That's going to need doors also and this is perfect. So, thanks again!
You might want to attach some screws 3/4 of the way through from the backside. I used that stuff to renew my garage door and after several winters with snow against the bottom of the door, the wood has warped and started to curl from being wet.
Great video. Do you have a video on how to hang the doors? I am confident that I can build two doors for my shed, but my old brain is struggling with understanding how to install.
I did a similar door but brought the 2 side trims all the way down and used a 1x6 for the bottom piece. kind of like a kick plate look. Also put a bevel on that piece so water doesn't sit. I didn't set the latch side back any But I should have !
I'm currently trying to do this. My 2 LP panels almost fit perfectly in the middle; so they'll overlap like they are designed to do. The trouble I'm having is, bc I couldn't get a perfectly straight cut, and the doors are different sizes, I can't figure out the length of my structural 2x4s. I'm probably over-thinking it, bc I can tighten up the seams with trim.
I laminated two layers of 4x1 to make a door. The joints overlap so it was very strong and light but it was for a chicken coup door with mesh instead of siding. Nice work as usual.
Thanks for the video. I feel confident I can do this on my own now. Do you have a companion video that shows adding the hinges and finishing to include hanging?
I might have done a 6 inch skirt for the molding on the bottom of the door. And I would have deck screwed it all on and countersunk/patched the screw tops as well because I love to over build!
Very nice, fairly simple. You used is LP siding in the lower 48 where I reside we have T-111 siding very similar in look. Does the LP brand required staining or painting like T-111 ? And thanks for sharing Mr. Shannon
So clever to attach front-facing things (trim) from the backside with screws. I probably would have done it the much less elegant way: countersinking a screw in the front and then filling it in with wood putty. And that would have been after making the mistake of shooting the brads through the trim and plywood. lol
Did you paint the door before applying trim? I've gotten lazy and just painted the damn thing completely. Not sure how well the pl premium is gonna stick now.
I have a shed with a 5x7 door and i want to insulate it. Thi k i could do this with the lp siding and maybe butt two pieces together ? Edit or maybe I could have it split in the middle
Is that lp smart side? Why not do a vid on that? Genius idea tho what do you frame your opening to? Then what do you frame the door to? Why not show us putting hinges on and and hanging it?
Thank you for this Shannon . I am wondering if it would be possible to make this 48” wide which is the size of my door frame . I thought it may be too heavy and would have to do two doors ? What would be your advice please ? I have only used exterior plywood on my shed which unfortunately is letting in water at base , will have to seal with something .
Making my shed door is the last part of my build. Liked your approach to the horizontal caulk for possible drainage.
Dude is an amazing carpenter and Canadian.
Nice job. Now, I need to roll my sleeves up and make one myself (working on a box blind). Thanks!
I love all your videos. You have saved me multiple times on my DIY projects. Keep em coming.
Thanks for sharing. I'm getting ready to build a door for my coop.
Very good. I am just finishing a storage building using this same material. Great idea to save money on my door. Thanks...
I need to replace my shed door. This was perfect timing! Thank you
Thanks Shannon, this really helps when your door gets blown off and splinters into pieces.
good idea that will save me a few pennies! the cheapest ext door is over 275. with out the trim. Thanks!
Major help Shanon!
I’m going with your method after spending $250 on 2 slabs made of particle that only lasted one year. So sad. Thank you
Why did it only last one year? Did it rot, or did the door sag?
Doors look great!

Perfect video for my shed door , thanks ❤❤
Love it! thanks Dudeman!

Very helpful, thank you
Great job 👍
Wow great video Thanks
Nice work 👏

With the adhesive I added it should be fine.
Nice shed,
Great idea need to do this for my chicken coop.👍🏾🇺🇸
That turned out well. Good method and nice job.
Amazing nice one thanks 🇮🇪😎👏
Another awesome video. Great work

This is all I have :ruclips.net/user/shortscnU4gbDnylA
To hang the door put its side next to the side where the hinges go. Prop up the door to the correct hight and screw in the hinges.
Looks brilliant is this plastic stuff dear dos it come in 8x4 bits
The siding is 4x8
Wish I could find 2x4s that are straight like those. My door would look like a taco with the garbage lumber we have around here.

Beautiful
Looks good.
Nice and affordable I like it 👍

Not too detailed but I have this:ruclips.net/user/shortscnU4gbDnylA
@@HouseImprovements Thank you! I'll take a look at it
I also just subscribed to your channel. Thank you for your videos 🙏🏽

Could I use this same design for two 5ft wide doors to close in a carport? Maybe just a diagonal piece to brace it?
They will likely warp over time being so wide.
Looks good. Is that panel meant to be painted or is the paint on it sufficient for weather?
You can get it pre painted in a few colours but this is just their primed finish and it is meant to be painted.

Screwed and Glued 👍
Did you use treated lumber for the 2x4 braces and trim pieces?
No I did not. This is all standard lumber
What adhesive do you recommend?I use PL for interior work, can I use that for exterior as well?
Very nice, fairly simple.

It comes pre-primed and requires exterior grade paint. I have used it on my shed and it still looks good 3 years later. Cheers!
Yes and yes

Ya I was already planning on caulking my door trim but that's a much better idea
How long did that take to build? I’ve got to build one next week.
about an hour maybe? Once you have everything on hand.
Did you paint the door before applying trim? I've gotten lazy and just painted the damn thing completely. Not sure how well the pl premium is gonna stick now.
This door is primed and the owner will paint it later. If it was me I would have painted the door before adding the trim.
Nice, thank you! Do you think some flashing or drip edge over the top would help, or does it just collect ice up there?
You could add that under the siding on the wall if you like
Can you not use wood joiners on the trim?
Wood joiners? biscuits? Not sure what you are referring too?

Yes you could.
my shed door acts like it is warped out at top toward the opening. any ideas?
Where do you get that LP siding? ...and did you put it over OSB or plywood?
Lowes carries the LP Smartside in my area
hard to find in certain parts of canada hahaha. damn frozen pile of ***. I bought 2 before they ran out for the whole year xD.
@@rekostarr7149 you use lp? Why
@@Brandon-no3vc Why not?
@@LogHewer maybe for a shed right?
Nice job. But nowadays the door has to be heavy duty steel and the frame heavy duty steel.
that's over kill but I know what your saying, theft is up everywhere!
you need a diagonal board from the hinge side or the door will sag
If this was a framed shed door yes, this is a sheet of basically plywood with a faux frame for looks.
Is that lp smart side? Why not do a vid on that? Genius idea tho what do you frame your opening to? Then what do you frame the door to? Why not show us putting hinges on and and hanging it?
Smart side is the product. I would frame the opening about 3/8" larger and use wood stops inside to stop the door and close the gap.
@@HouseImprovements do you have a pic of the stops?
👍👍👍
Bit to heavy in weight for the average garden shed, looks good though.
Thank you for this Shannon . I am wondering if it would be possible to make this 48” wide which is the size of my door frame . I thought it may be too heavy and would have to do two doors ? You could do it 48" door in most cases.
How about for the amateur, I would have liked to see the install on the shed. But the title was for the build. I still learned something.
Your boards look bowed..
The paneling always is , adding the frame gives it better strength and straightness.
