- Purpose: EpiPen delivers adrenaline for anaphylaxis treatment.
- Types: Two types available - EpiPen and EpiPen Junior.
🔐 Safe Storage and Instructions
- Storage: Keep in case to prevent damage.
- Instructions: Follow the clear instructions on each pen for correct usage.
🔹 Identifying the EpiPen Parts
- Safety Cap: Blue cap indicates the top; removing it activates the EpiPen.
- Re-Capping Caution: Replace cap carefully to avoid accidental injection.
💉 Correct Usage of EpiPen
- Positioning: Lie down with elevated legs or sit if breathing is difficult.
- Application: Remove the safety cap and inject into the thigh, even through clothing.
- Duration: Hold in place for 3 seconds, then remove.
🆘 Post-Injection Protocol
- Wait for Help: Stay put until emergency services arrive.
- Unconscious Patients: Use the recovery position if necessary.
- Needle Safety: Automatic cover appears post-use to prevent injuries.
♻️ Handover and Disposal
- Give to EMS: Hand the used EpiPen to emergency services for proper disposal.
- Multiple Doses: If a second dose is required, repeat the process and hand both to EMS.
