Injuries are rising because more people are using them. Because cars are too expensive. And the infrastructure is only designed for cars, leaving people with no choice but to endanger themselves to get to work. Requiring a permit does NOTHING to solve the infrastructure safety problem. All it does is make poor people have to go through more steps in order to have a proper vehicle. Which is classism. The entire reason a lot of people use these things is to avoid that shit. Requiring a permit acts as if the scooter riders are harming each other by crashing into each other, or crashing into a wall or something, but in reality most of those injuries come from car collisions at crosswalks, and to be more specific, right turns on red.
The bikes have a thing called unlock. They can go faster then 20mph. We used to go to school for motorcycle classes. But now if you get this you can do anywhere from 30-60mph depending on the bike. @@ausername7470 so then you are for restricting the age that a person can get a license. So what age 18 or 21? What a dumb report. You can’t tell us how high the injuries rose without also telling us how many more e-bikes were sold. And how do injury rates compare to conventional bikes? Meaningless.
They’re going to require insurance for them soon and registration because now they can make money . The state gets there cut any insurance company gets there cut.
up 40% means 1 to 1.4 don't be fooled this is a power grab. They use percentages for a reason. To convince you of something. If they gave you an actual amount it would be seriously low and would not make a story.
Looking at how many more injuries or accidents in isolation from how many more were sold is foolish. If you sell twice as many bikes, it is logical to anticipate twice as many accidents.
I want see some actual studies to prove the numbers on these death/injury increase claims (and their origin). But even beyond that, what do people expect? There are _always_ going to be increases in deaths/injuries in new things like this until the market finishes it's growth, hits some form of stability, and everyone gets used to them being around. Besides, even if we enact a bunch of laws, what gaurantee do we have on a drop in deaths/injuries? Look at driving and the number of laws we have around that. Yet there are approximately 43k vehicle crash related deaths per year alone. Realistically speaking, we need more time and data to determine where the majority of the fault lies and what changes need to be made to prevent as many deaths/injuries as possible... and not to simply punish riders.
I wonder how the increase in ebike injuries correlates to the increase in car collisions against pedestrians and cyclists over the last few years. But of course, let's not regulate the thing _actually_ killing people, otherwise we might run the risk of making life better for the general population.
They need to be age restricted. Not a permit. These kids can't even obey red lights and stop signs. I see it every day. One kid lost his life right in front of me because he blew through a red light.
What a way to show data lol, doubled from 2017 to 2022? You know how many more people got a bike? Especially during covid, we got cities installing bike lanes for the first time ever. Can we subtract car related accidents in those 5 years? But noooo... all we hear is spoooky! Doubled!!!
If there's one thing we learned from COVID, it's how they'll give arbitrary blanket statements without the proper context to push a fear agenda. I mean, for all we know, going from 2 to 4 is still factually "double", but if you omit that context, then a headline of "DOUBLE" sounds like a bigger number than it really is. Which causes panic and knee-jerk, emotional reactions. They just never tell you the actual numbers.
You know what these e bike laws are ridiculous. (I have a valid driver's license and proof of insurance on a vehicle that doesn't run) I'm riding mine like a car on the road, commuting to where I need to go and not risking flats by riding on the shoulder because cities neglect fixing the actual problem, better roads free of debris, potholes, cracks, and/or put bike lanes in. Although not every rider is going to obey laws. It's all about common sense. (I now understand why many don't) Counties need to start steering towards more worthy crimes, like theft, arson, robberies, murders, carjacking list goes on. If you're going to be that restrictive on a vehicle that doesn't require anything but protection on your body, then make it mandatory the rider has to be over 18 with an M1 or M2 license. Petty government still in diapers fr
Stupid happens. Let stupid hurt for a while and people will grow up enough not to hurt themselves as much or remove themselves from the genepool. Win win.
From 1913 to 2022 car crash fatality grew by 900+% just saying (and as a biker/ebiker the cars cus us more danger than we do to our self's do we act dumb sometimes yes but do cars also not pay attention to any from of bike yeah god bless to you all)

@@ausername7470 so then you are for restricting the age that a person can get a license. So what age 18 or 21? Then how about the license holder must also have insurance not just the vehicle, this way the drivers policy covers no matter what they drive. As for those EV bikes a majority of the riders are licensed at 3K and up I strongly doubt kids are owning them. It comes down to they want them under the same requirements as a motorcycle and there are full blown EV Bikes. Now these things are not motorcycles if they try this they then should have the very same rules and requirements for regular bikes adults that ride them blow Red Lights, Stop Signs and brake what ever traffic laws they want. So they should need plates, insurance and be registered. Head, tail light, brake lights and directional.
@@thomasohanlon1060 no license needed. Treat it like alcohol. They have to be 18 to purchase
@@thomasohanlon1060 no most bikes are not licensed. Even the 3k and up ones. Hell mine is a 4k dollar ebike that goes 45mph no license plate.
@@ausername7470 well NY is pushing registration, license and insurance. They don’t care about the price it’s the registration fee/plates, the correct class license/MC Endorsement and insurance it’s strictly a money grab and a control aspect.
Who tf cares
of course injuries will rise, every year more and more people are getting ebikes, sales are rocketing and that will mean a corresponding increase in ebike related injuries
Regulations hold back the progress of mankind. Reject them
I loveeee my Ultra❤⚡️⚡️⚡️
Parents buying their kids ebikes when most of them don't know how to ride a regular bike. I bought a used surron that a guy bought for his 13 year old son and he ran it off in pondthe first day he rode it. The electronic on the bike was ruined but im going to mod it out
And we are not even talking of Li batteries exploding .... yet!
What is wrong with the humble (manual) bicycle? Good exercise for their legs. Lungs benefit. Blood circulation improves
wear gear, and dont be an idiot. i wear a full track suit and ece rated helmet on my talaria, and it makes me cringe to see kids wearing flip flops and a skateboard helmet. these are basically dirt bikes! treat them like one!
I think this is more about pedestrian victims and the complainers. I get so much hate when people see me cruising. People suck.
It doesn't matter anyway I just went to court paid $400 and I'm still allowed to drive my bike they said I do not have to register it my bike is a class 3 and it goes 90 miles an hour
More laws and fee's and fines in this free cuntry. Even with toy's!?!?!? I love yall kiddo 💗
They need.
To get motorized vehicles off the sidewalks and bike paths.
When you sell twice as many bikes expect injuries to double. Basic math that..
If you get hit on one of these…. You play stupid games… you are going to win stupid prizes. These things move silently at high speeds and are invisible to people in cars who are looking for other cars. Just a voice of reason for those who will listen.
The dumbassery is at an all time high…. It’s not just electric bikes,am I right?
Don’t worry about my own safety, I don’t need permission to ride.
My friend mods ebikes. His bike can hit 80mph
What we truly need is lessregulations and government. Truly the most dangerous and deadly should have oversight!
I'm fine with eBikes and think they are good transit...however if they are going to function like motorcycles at serious speeds then they ARE MOTORCYCLES.
Just class them as motorcycles or class 10hp and less gas motorcycles the same as eBikes.
The Chinese are making more and more niche devices that defy existing US road laws....30mph+ skateboard, high adrenaline eBikes, unlicenceable cart-cars.
It only doubled because more people are using them
What a dumb report.
I really hate this government. Let people ride however they want as long as it isn't hurting anyone but the rider. Let Darwinism take it's course.
Looking at how many more injuries or accidents in isolation from how many more were sold is foolish. If you sell twice as many bikes, it is logical to anticipate twice as many accidents.
Imagine if people who were queefs of a human stayed inside their homes without internet where they belong?
Dear lord stop these evil tax witches
@@En4cer2K9 yeeees! you can make any number sound scary like that.
No. of ebikes in 2017 vs 2022? Probably 10 times more
This bring independence to so many people. Their answer? Depend on a ride from Mommy!
We have become a Nanny police state.
Permits means more taxes. All about the money
They definitely need to be age restricted, I see kids blow through red lights and stop signs every day.
Oh more regulation just what everyone needs pffffffffffffffff
Stupid happens. Let stupid hurt for a while and people will grow up enough not to hurt themselves as much or remove themselves from the genepool. Win win.
Imagine some company litters scooters everywhere and drunk tourists ride them but we as ebikers who buy our own shi and care about it get regulated.
It’s increasing because more people are using it therefore of course it’ll increase
From 1913 to 2022 car crash fatality grew by 900+% just saying (and as a biker/ebiker the cars cus us more danger than we do to our self's do we act dumb sometimes yes but do cars also not pay attention to any from of bike yeah god bless to you all)
So there's people riding e bikes that cant handle them, so why you get a e bike in the first place knowing such??????
Of course injuries went up? More people are riding them. Show me the number of riders in 2017 vs injuries then do it for 2022
Oh you wear heelys? You need a class .5 permit
Survival of the fittest is allowed
They doubled because they are twice as popular😂
Duh not many people had e bikes in 2017
Oh no. Now do cars.
They cause major accidents
We don’t need to regulate the fucking bikes lmao we need to mandate safe infrastructure for people to use them. How many of these injuries are from collisions with vehicles?
