I bought a SP47 sight unseen over the net and at first I was a little disappointed but then changed the grind to a pseudo-scandi and now I'm overwhelmed with it, so much so I have semi-retired my BK7....not that its better just because I love using it more and I'm afraid of losing the BK7, it cost me a fortune...I live in Australia, I found wrapping the handle in a couple of layers of camo-tape made it very comfortable, I modified it by removing the top of the finger guard and filing a nice 90deg edge on the back spine for ferro striking, all I have left to do is make a good leather sheath and all is good in the world, thanks for the video top notch
    ......also I have subbed

How does the SP46 compare to the BK16 for general bushcraft tasks?

The Ontario SP46 is certainly more capable of chopping and hacking. It works very well for other bush craft tasks. Although I like the BK16, the SP46 in my opinion, will work better as an all-around bush craft knife for any task except possibly skinning of small animals, where the BK16 would be better for that.

I guess I like the idea of having a knife to compliment my Ka Bar which does not have a hilt. That's why I'm thinking about the Mora or a BK 16.

Both the BK16 and the Mora are great knives, I own both. The wife loves the Mora so much, she bought a pink one to use in the kitchen when she is cooking. Honestly, I have a Mora CLipper Army on every single one of my backpacks. Can't beat for the money. BK16 is great, but Mora beats it in price. I find it comfortable and easy to use and made well enough for the purpose I use it for. You can't go wrong with either, but you will find that the BK16 is harder to sharpen and will take longer to get a good sharp edge on it, where the Mora is very easy to care for.

That's my point, I do baton with my choppers, although my SP- 47, I consider it more to the Becker BK-2, and I do baton with my BK-2, I don't consider it a chopper, but now my SP-49, SP-51, and the SP-53, I do consider them choppers, alot of my friend's like the Flat Grind's and the lighter weight of the Full Grind, and when we go out, my Saber Grind knives, bite just as deep as the their Flat Grind knives, if you look at how the wood split's with the Saber Grind, that's what I'm talking about, it split's better, more like an ax, to each his own, I'm a Saber Grind guy, for what I do with mine, I prefer it, but regardless I do enjoy your video's, and your kind response to my post.

We agree, each grind has a specific purpose and you should choose a knife based on the function you want it to perform. Beckers and Ontarios are great knives. Thanks for watching and commenting!

My friend, RealBigMonkey, suggested the SP-53, when I asked him his favorite knife, I asked why not the Sp-52 since it was a little lighter, he told me that a Flat Grind slices like a machete, and a Saber Grind chops more like a ax, since then most of my chopper's are Saber Grind, and I reap the benefit's, in fact ALL my O.K.C.'s, are Saber Grind model's, which are the SP-47, SP-49, SP-51, and one of my favorite, SP-53, the shoulder is higher on a Flat Grind, it's in the spine, so there's more drag along the wood, some guy's even use oil to help it along, where the shoulder is lower on a Saber Grind, so it splits sooner.

Check out our video on the SP46 & SP47, we compare the sabre grind to a flat grind in that video. ruclips.net/video/1n5kFqTj4aM/видео.html
