I miss these old videos. I purchased a bunch of the SP knives you tested and glad I did because Ontario (just like this soon-to-be third world country) closed it's doors for good. Glad I picked up the SP6, SP17, SP43, SP46, SP49, SP51, RD6, RD7, RD9 and RD Tanto. Really wish I would have added the SP10 and SP19.
Yes, Ontario sold out to Blue Ridge knives, which is a distributor. They gutted the company, and I do believe they might be switching production to chinesium factories. It's sad what's going on, but sign of the times I guess. If I had the ability, I would def make more videos for everyone. Get them while you can ! :) Mayor Fuglycool
@MayorFuglycools Yes, I was glued to your videos around ten years ago. You are the reason I spent all that money on fixed blades. I am a big believer in budget fixed blades as tools because I do not see the point in spending 1/4 of a paycheck on a knife when good 'ole 1095, 5160, 440C, 154CM and 420HC work incredibly well - tougher than the super duper steels. One knife I wish you would have beaten on was the (stupidly) discontinued Buck 650 Nighthawk. That thing is indestructible as the few destruction videos available proved. Very few reviews on that 1/4" beast. Glad I grabbed two of 'em when I did. Larrin's toughness chart (of Magnacut fame) shows that 420HC is some of the toughest steels out there and Buck has it down to a science.
@@Ruger44Redhawk I appreciate you watching my videos, and possibly, I may bring back the Tests. My filming location is pretty much back to it's normal self, as there was a fire that destroyed a good chunk of it from an electrical pole contacting a tree limb. I will have to see if I have the resources to continue The knife destruction tests. :) Mayor Fuglycool
I have the smaller skinner knife from Ontario the model sp 46 and with a 6" 5160 steel blade. Found it on Ebay a week ago. What is unusual about this knife, is that is has a beautiful stained wood handle. It's light compact and has quickly become a favorite of mine. Paid $33.30 for it a GREAT FIND.
Wooow, I have enjoyed your new video, Mayor!!! I had faith in this knife (confirming Ontario reputation in other products) but I admit that it surprised me because it widely beated all proofs (sincerely, I´ve had some doubts referred to its big blade at 5:49 to 6:10 while you hit the block, at 8:27 to 8:40 testing the tip resistance, and with the last proof supporting your body weigth). But without doubts, the Gen II SP48 is a great option for anyone who desired to purchase an ultimate and super strong knife with a garanteed lifetime. Definitely, the Ontario Gen II SP48 survived the "Mayor´s Test"; but more important Mayor, is that thanks to Your great effort and extreme test, OKC demonstrates the hi-quality in its products and I hope that this great USA enterprise continues satisfying its customers in the future, in the same way as it do today. One more thing: Congratulations for your personal cares using goggles and gloves. Thanks for sharing this Excellent Video, Mayor!!!
solo-bayonetas Thanks ! I greatly appreciate the feedback, and you are right about the tests being very dangerous. I will be getting around to more Ontarios in the future. I really hope OKC watches my videos, to see how tough these tools actually are ! Mayor Fuglycool
Mayor Fuglycool I hope too, Mayor!!! Nowadays and in my personal opinion, your channel is the only one which shows a Real Live Test without TV studio camera tricks used by several USA/Europe knives companies in their commercials. And of course, I would like that OKC can include in its web site a link to your test videos, helping by this way to all undecided people to purchase the "right knife" for their requirements. Thanks again Mayor for this wonderful video and for answer my comment!!!
Mayor Fuglycool Great idea, Mayor! In the next days I will try to get a contact with OKC and ask them the possibility to link your awesome videos with the company Web apps (sites, RUclips channel, facebook/twitter accounts, etc). That would be great for you and for all youtubers who need to know the OKC products features. When I have some news from Ontario I will quickly comment you, Mayor. See you soon!!!
Good show. These are knives that could save your life. When we go deep into the woods there is always a knife of this quality with us. While I don't have the SP 48, I have been thinking of adding one to my edged tool collection specifically to process larger pieces of wood.
joesphx19 Thank you for taking the time to check out this review. I really do appreciate every one of my followers, and I hope that you gained some good info on this blade. :) Mayor Fuglycool
MattV2099: Guns & Food Thanks ! Standing on knives in trees is a definite "jetpack operation" mission. . . But I tackle it with my bare feet. . . :) Mayor Fuglycool
very awesome review sir. that knife will have to find its way into my collection. I can't believe how tough it is. Ontario makes some very good stuff. excellent video.
+Mayor Fuglycool There are many so called "knife test" videos on RUclips. Think those folks should watch your channel to learn how to really test a knife.
I would say do a Ka-Bar 1211/1245/1271 but those would most likely fail the test on the spine test. But I bet the 1245 would pass with flying colors on penetration.
JeepJeep234 I do have a KaBar that was just donated to the cause. . . It is the 1212 model :3)) Thank you for watching the videos, and I will try to get around to the Kabar soon :3)) Mayor Fuglycool
Lance De Marzo To be honest, the SOG Seal Team might take a while to get around to, but the SP5 is within my reach. I have a few other SOG's up and coming, and I will definitely get around to the Seal Team soon enough. Mayor Fuglycool
