What would YOU get at Japanese Costco?
your hair reminds me alot of american women's hairstyles in the 80's and I love it
it always cracks me up how amused she is with things hahahahah. good content. thanks guys !
They have Black Thunder here in the states
Recently found your content, and I just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos. I have always found the Japanese culture very beautiful ❤️. I am about to travel there to see my favorite sumo star Hoshoryu in person in the July Basho. I've been to many countries while I was in the military. But i recently retired and I have always wanted to see sumo live. While I am in Japan do you have any suggestions for me to do while I am there? The July Basho is in Aichi prefectural gymnasium in Nagoya. So any suggestions? Thanks again 🙏
We love u Mrs.Eats!!!!!!
We don't need saunas in Texas Costco, you just sit outside May through September and you get a free sauna.
can confirm, i lived in dallas
You said it, Texas weather is no joke.
Don't need one in Florida either.
True I lived there in the early 80's it reached a dry 117° fahrenheit in Pecos, Texas
My aunt got a home sauna at costco about 10 years ago here in the US. They sometimes carry it
I wouldn't say it's better, I'd say that Cosco smartly caters to their customers. It would be nice if they integrated foods from other countries. It would be fun to try new things!
I went there in January. It’s not better as you said the products are catered to the local population.
Yeah, that would be nice. They probably already do, though. Costco has limited space, so we can't expect to see too many limited time offerings.
There's not quite as big a difference as I thought there might be. Now if you want to talk big differences, other than the kind of food offered, Japanese/Korean/etc/ 7-11's are SO much better than US 7-11l's like, it's night and day.
Depends on where you're located. They don't cater to the midwest locations. They more or less say this is what's available this month and you either will or won't buy it. They regularly take away things which sell out and add items which barely sell at all. I really only shop at Costco for their meat and frozen food departments. Sam's Club has anything else I'm looking for and I can almost always guarantee it will be available and won't be placed in a new location on the sales floor which is an asinine trick Costco loves to pull so you walk past newer items you have zero interest in buying whilst hunting for the tortilla chips that have been relocated for the 4th time in three months.
In Canada, there are regional products and imported cold cuts and seafood.
Around Christmas, you can find food from Belgium, Italy, France, Spain...
My wife is a current US Costco employee and I used to be one as well. We actually met there :) We stopped by the one in Sapporo. It was an incredible experience. Even the samples are better with things like grilled tuna and yellowtail. Absolutely amazing.
Question. Can I use my American Costco card to let me and my wife in? Or do I need to pay for a Japanese Costco card?
@markmoreno7295 You can use the same card!
but here is the thing. A typical permanent employee cashier for Costco makes in a year 3.1 million yen which $21,305 converted. In the US that is poor, but in Japan, that's a really good wage. People forget that Japan had deflation for years so prices have been really low.
I have a picture of a ghost on a tv.
@ShadowsandCityLights how do you know?
If you live in a very Asian area in the US, like Alhambra CA or Honolulu Hawaii, the Costcos there are pretty amazing.
I’d argue San Francisco as well
Not really compared to Japan Costcos. Not all Costcos in Japan have everything the same. There is variations. I current am in Hawaii and visit Costco regularly. Also, Hawaii Costcos as well as Sam's Clubs no longer have combo pizzas, only cheese or peperoni.
@@maidenthe80sla simple and genius at the same time
Not all Costcos in the same county or even near by vicinities carry the same stuff.
@@Owlerycrinkie0918that’s kinda the point he was making
Japanese Costco sushi is cheaper and higher quality than the best sushi restaurant in my province.
The tray of curry pan is just magical. My baby loved them.
And the huge trays of BLT wrap slices is an amazing deal.
So many other unqiue Japanese items too.
they are an island nation surrounded by ocean. of course sushi is cheaper there
@bigmikeobama5314 Im on an island province that was famous for having shoals so dense they stopped ships from sailing. Nobody would live here if not for the abundance of fish. There are countless other regions and nations you could apply the same reasoning to, but it doesn't coorelate to fish prices, or quality, or standards, or work ethic, or cleanliness.
I remember they tried it in one Costco in the Central Valley of California. They discontinued it since it wasn't selling enough.
hmmm interesting 🤔 👀
Costco worker here, they still have onions. they just come in small cups now and you have to ask for them at the register :3
People were becoming to crazy with the onions and also pandemic made it go away. sucks, I loved to load up on onions.
What happen to the combo pizza?😢
@@jimiijimii1111 It's no longer offered, that's because it wasn't as popular as pepperoni or cheese.
Any updates on the sauerkraut?
Compared to fresh ground? No contest.
@@againstalladsgamesmany countries including Japan import onions from america 🤷♂️
Home saunas are available in the states, though they have to be special ordered because of home space. They have to be custom to each house.
Not really true, you can buy many "off the shelf" brands and have it shipped to your house, you assemble a few pieces and poof a sauna. From Barrels for outside your house to infra-reds you can stick where ever you have space and a proper GFI outlet.
They actually don't always have to be special ordered. My aunt and uncle got theirs directly from a costco
Yeah they have them in lots of stores now. Almost always electric though. I want a traditional hot rock one. That smell of the rocks and the steam is unique.
I like Mrs Eat’s new hair style. It’s very becoming!
@@clvrswineto you it is. Not to everyone else
Never been to a Costco before but working at a Barnes and Noble and visiting others, things always seem better than what we are used to, the old "grass is always greener on the otherside".
I have to say one thing that Japanese Costco is lacking in is the food court. There is normally not enough seating in Japanese Costco. In Kawasaki, there were only like 4 tables in the place! In one Osaka Costco, there were 6 tables inside, and the rest were outside. Everyone rallied for those coveted inside seats. 😢😭
I'm grateful to you for make this videos you are a nice honest person ✨️ 😊
@12:20 Happy powder? This sounds like something the members of Fleetwood Mac would enjoy.
I LOVE Black Thunder! If you haven't tried it, it's really close to the Crunch bars that we have. They also sell a small version of Black Thunder that's basically Bunch A Crunch if anyone remembers that candy!!
Nice timing to have this video released for those who live in Okinawa, since it will be open in a couple months!
Where, in Naha? Or in Nago?
@@markmoreno7295 Nanjo-shi, a little bit (?) further South of Naha.

Wow. Big surprise that Costco stocks a Japanese Costco with items Japanese people will buy. Korean Costcos stock their warehouses with items Koreans buy. It's what Costco does...nothing better or worse, just different. My Korean friends who have come here are all, "wow" when they see my local Costco but I'm sure their own Costco is just as impressive. No matter where you live, Costco supplies items in their warehouses that will sell...they make loads of money catering to the local demographic...no more, no less.
u missed the part where everything is cheap and high quality
america skimps on both
Costco has actually begun their rollout of in-house sushi in the states. I think as of now only a few locations exist in the seattle area.
As an Australian Costco customer, I'm also crying. So good in Japan!! We went to Japan last year (no Costco, but will look next time) & it was just amazing. Normally going overseas is a great experience, but I'm glad to be home as Australia is a great place. But I had depression for 2 months after Japan as I missed it so much. My wife has agreed with my pleas & we're going back in 2025. Woohoo!
They had Black Thunder at a few Costco's in California for a little while. Unfortunately I never got around to trying them. Love these videos from Mrs. Eats and Mr. Eats!
They do have Black Thunder in American Costco from time to time. We have purchased it many times.
4:02 Kancho Master Mrs.Eats' brain never turns off when an opportunity for Kancho arises. But for real though Japan Costco has got a cool assortment of stuff.
Not costco related, but every time I'm staying in Kobe, I always go to a store that sells the small buns with butter and another type with a small hotdog and cheese!! Yum, yum!
We have onions in the US for the hotdogs but they got rid of the onion grinder and instead serve it in little plastic cups on the side. We also have frozen cold brew coffee both regular and mocha instead of iced lattes. I do miss the combo pizza, the hand dipped ice cream bars, and the take and bake pepperoni pizza. You're very lucky to have the combo pizza.
They weren't mentioned, but I saw cookies from the Honolulu Cookie Company in the background. Those cookies are so good.
Very interesting to see the regional differences. Yeah that is pretty cool I would like many of those things here. The Costco's I go to here in SF bay area do have onions in those same dispensers, Also combo pizza, What Costcos in the states don't have that? We also have the iced coffees. There are apparently differences even within the states...
you are too cute, you and your husband are truly blessed. fun video, thank you.
We do have cold coffee drinks at the food court in Costco here in the USA. I wish the Costco stores here and other stores would bring more foods and items from overseas here. I usually hit the Asian markets here to get stuff from overseas. Great video !!!
US Costcos USED to have onion dispensers in their food courts. I’ll have to check my local one - I’ve not looked for them in recent years!
The one I stop at doesn't have onions.
WE lost onions and relish due to the pandemic. Same with sauerkraut. In fact, we lost half the menu in the food court! They stopped the combo pizza because they could keep up with 2 different pizza types but not three. No more froyo but we do have soft serve ice cream and they just brought in chocolate! We used to have chocolate croissants from the bakery but no more.
Remember when Costco food courts had vanilla ice cream bars that they freshly dipped in chocolate?
They actually had Black Thunder here in the States; I bought them as souvenirs for my coworkers when on a business trip. Yes, I came from America bringing Japanese souvenirs. 🙂
That being said, there's so much that they do have that I don't remember from 13 years ago (when I used to live there)... I gotta take my family next time we visit!
Never been to Japan but German Aldi is freaking amazing
Dear Japan, we in Wisconsin are concerned your block of Co-jack as we call Colby-Jack is lasting you months. You showed a Wisconsin person's daily ration of cheese, in that "brick" as you called it. Well Colby cheese is from Colby Wisconsin, down the road a bit from me. Walmart in USA sells wagyu ground beef, which seems to me a perfect waste of wagyu beef, but I think the same of the top prime rib ground hamburgers we sell too, like man why murder a good cut of beef. No costco's around me, never been in one, looks like a slightly fancier Sams Club.
This is so inviting!! I am very jealous. I want to try everything at bakery and all that fresh sushi. Would love to go see and experience for myself.
Home saunas can be found in the states, especially for the ones that are all-season. Like my home-states: Michigan
We will visit Kyoto and Osaka this September. On top of my list is Costco trip!
Costco is our favority store so this is our pigrimage.
Do more of these Japan Costco videos, please! Love it! Do the prepared meals section (besides sushi)! And the frozen entrees dept. Probably there is lots of fish and seafood. I wish we had that Go Go Curry! We do have it in the US at H Mart's little food court area.
The Costcos in Canada used to have onions for hotdogs, but once the pandemic hit they never bothered to bring them back. They used to have sauerkraut too.
There's no onions at my costco food court but that's because they always run out early in the day.
I'd love to have that chicken bucket ngl.
There's also an iced mocha and iced latte at my costco but they're blended which I don't like.
Bulgogi bake > chicken bake. I would eat it all the time lmao
Lindor chocolates are popular here too. The sample rush during chocolate season is just awful lmfao (I work for CDS)
There are a lot of really delicious food. Especially like it because there are more seafood than in the US. Costco videos from each country are very fun to watch.😊😊
The Danish savory, we in Sweden call it wienerbröd, but I only seen vanilla or chocolate coating.
Some of the snacks do make it back to America. In my Costco here in Tacoma Wa, we have the black thunder ones now, and a few of the other ones have made it here as well
The 180 yen for the hot dog and drink is $1.25 which in the US is the original $1.50 which has been the same since 1985. That will NEVER change as long as Costco keeps the same price. The rotisserie chicken is more expensive. 798 yen is $5.55 compared to the US $4.99. That is the loss leader and in fact the rotisserie chicken losses Costco around 50 million dollars a year.
When I visit Japan with my kids, we are eating at the Costco!
We had the onion chopping machines at Costco in American until Covid hit and then they took them away and haven’t brought them back. Now they just put chopped onions in a little cup. Definitely not as much fun. And we still have Pizza, by the slice or by the pie. At least we do at Costco on the West Coast.
We only have the pepperoni and cheese pizza at Our Costcos in the US while Japan still has the Combo.(Not jealous but that was one of My favorite pizzas before COVID hit in 2020)
Thank you.
you can ask for onions at costco food courts in the us, maybe they are just shy
*Thank you for the awesome review of Costco in Japan! You like as many onions as me. Greetings from Seattle, birthplace of Costco. Subscribed...* 😄
Those alfort cookies are THE BOMB. I love those things. I refuse to buy them (and "butter sandwiches") because I can't resist if they're near me.
This is probably the best Japanese related channel on YT. It feels like I am watching a tv show.
You guys have shrimp katsu burgers and clam chowder at the food court. That sounds so good.
I didn't expect Colby Jack cheese to be the top selling item in Costco. Popcorners though are my favorite snack!
I just want to say some Costcos have the onion machine. But ever since covid they took them out. Now you can only get onions and a little cup and they're always out!!
wow of all the things to be #1... colbyjack cheese... lol thats funny from an American POV because that's almost like, the 'vanilla ice cream' or plaine-yogurt of cheese to us.... it's cool that folks over there aren't adverse to trying a real hotdog- I'd have thought that's one American food that would seem low-brow to a lot of Japanese folks
hmm we can get chocolate covered macadamia nuts, there is a hawaiian brand that everyone buys, although i don't know if it's at costco specifically. They removed the onions basically because people don't know how to behave. We don't have the combo pizza because of corporate greed.
i miss the polish dog sauerkraut, onions and spicy mustard at the food courts here and hate self check out
Quite a nice video. The Costco items seem very toothsome! Also, your new hairstyle is fetching!
BLACK THUNDER is available in Califonia, I found and bought it
We don't have a Costco here in my state of Australia :( Black Thunder is delicious. First I thought it sounded boring. I very wrong. Plus all the fun flavours 🤤
My local Costco has gotten some Japanese items. I’ve been able to find stuff like the big bags of Black Thunder, Imuraya Castellated, and frozen packs of oden. Makes me hope that additional snacks can find their way there.
The sushi selection isn’t huge, but it doesn’t look too bad there, either. No A4 Wagyu, though. 😅 Maybe one day.
I was just at Costco in the US and they gave me onions. You have to ask for it they have them in little cups next to the person handing out the food behind the counter.
They USED to have onions at Costco USA. That was discontinued around COVID time. Too bad, I liked them
I used to go to costco a lot and i will say besides the food it looks pretty similar to ours here in the US. The reason i stopped going there is because unless you shop there enough per month paying the fee for their membership isn't worth it and after a while you're just eating the same junk over and over and if you aren't extremely careful about it a good portion of your food goes bad before you can eat it so i only maybe recommend going to costco for most maybe once every other year at best.
This week will mark my 28th year working at Costco and I wish we did an employee exchange program so that I could work at one in Japan.
Really wish we had that shrimp burger and clam chowder in the food court.
I am so jealous of Japan Costco! Such great food and sushi!!👍🏼💜
Actually the Foster City Costco here (San Francisco Bay Area) added a Sushi section that looks just like that. Maybe they were watching?
Yeah, it's probably better because, as it turns out, having a largely unregulated economy focused entirely on profit isn't the best thing for consumers 🤷🏻♂️😅 who knew?
Exactly!!! Also, America exports highly quality foods for the most money and brings in low quality foods and turns around and sells them at highly quality prices, should there be a law against that, smh.
wtf are you 2 dumbfounded idiots talking about lol. no food shown in this video was so "high quality" that it couldnt be sold in america. costco and sams only sell in bulk, which means to turn a profit they can only sell the items people buy the most, and there arent enough people in the states who want to buy saunas and sushi platters to warrant carrying them. its that simple. thinking any place that sells food would ever improve with more communist governmental control is so dumb it has reached flat earther levels if stupidity.
costco only exists because it is entirely focused on profit. in fact thats why its goods are so cheap. so compete with other businesses for profit. you truly are a victim of the leftist teachers unions.
Japanese Dr. Pepper has the same ingredients, its just a little less sweeter
Honestly would love to see a 'Japanese Home Depot' and compare it. Or the equivalent if there are no Home Depots in Japan yet!
I've seen Home Depots in Mexico.
Refreshing day
we use that poop bag, ordered from amazon straight to Bangkok!! i love it
Fun channel. I'll be looking to stay at closest Costco when I visit Japan.
The side-eye from the guy at 8:05! LOL!
that clam chowder looks like something you get at the Monterey wharf- the bread bowls!!!
Oh to have a travel portal to step through from my home country to other countries, just to shop at their Costco's 🙏🙏
The chopped onions are in the fridge in America, you have to ask for them. Just did it less an an hour ago
Love those Macadamia buy them at convenience store but cheaper Costco
Just love your outfit Mrs. Eats! Costco Japan Sushi 🍣 I could eat a 48 pack by myself. And the snack section was amazing.
US Costco used to have onions just like that. I don't know if they took it out of all of them or just some. It's been a few years since I've been in one.
Yes, it is!!
The fact that they still have crank operated condiment dispensers so Japanese kids today can get the same experience that us muricans had when we were kids back in the 90s and early 00s...ahh the childhood memories.
I can say with absolute certainty without ever having been to a Costco in Japan that it's infinitely superior to the Costco in the U.S. Not because of what they have in them but because of what they don't. I'll let everyone figure out exactly what that is.
I just love that my Costco membership card works world wide!
The food looks good!
South Korea has shrimp burgers at their McDonald's.
Yummy! 😊
You have the combination pizza in Japan? I’m so jealous, they discontinued it here in the US & it was my favorite pizza
They always used to have onions in American Costco, but they disappeared after COVID and never came back. But just learned from another post that you can request a small cup of them at the register!
I'm immensely disappointed they don't offer sauerkraut or brown mustard anymore
After watching this video, we in American are getting to short end of the Costco stick. That sushi looked top knotch.
They sell most of this in Vancouver
I love visiting the Costco in Kyoto and always comparing it to my Costco in
.
Mind melting from the sushi
I'm loving this channel more and more. Mrs. Eats is so much fun! American women don't have half the personality that she has.
It might depend what Costco you go to but the one by me still has onions and a place to get coffee beans!
Yes
Thanks for watching!! I hope you can visit one soon!!
We do have Onions! They used to have it where you can do it yourself, but now, you have to ask for it up front.
They have Black Thunder Chocolate at American Costco in California, but only a few. Most of that makes me so jelly though.
Ah! A new Mrs. Costco video! Time to like and comment.
We used to have onion machines 20 yrs ago
