Hey Janos. I'm also interested in photography. We have a couple of Lica’s but I must admit since my daughter dropped out of Uni where she was enrolled in Arts/photogeaphy they have been gathering dust. Hey I hope Pele isnt angered by the fireworks haha. Women can be quite jealous!

Kaplah, Eddy, bring out those Leicas! :) Indeed, the amount of illegal fireworks here is just staggering. The fireworks shown here were done by a friend of one of my coworkers, who last year spent 20K$ on the aerials. Probably similar amount this year as well. The kid does not have a health insurance, blew his money instead on fireworks.... wonder what happens when he has to go to a hospital... sadly, such attitude is very prevalent, instant gratification at the expense of planning for future and responsible behavior.
I did not pan around the camera, but such fireworks were coming up in every direction I could see, and from every distance out to to dozens of miles. Pele gave her blessings, as no house burned down... which is just astounding, provided some of these massive explosions happened so close that I could feel the ashes raining down on me after the explosion.
Done the filming with industrial ear protection, and that way it was quite comfy. but all the neighbors out there without ear protection just eroded a decade or more from their hearing... measured 100dB sustained with 108dB peaks (with calibrated microphone) when the kids were doing their little poppers at a distance (where they were the 3-10 year old kids were exposed to 106dB or more sustained and 115dB peaks from 8pm to midnight). These massive ones were even louder and went on for hours.... I'm not kidding, we had a bigger show here in the Mililani suburbs than the official one at Waikiki!
I'm just sad for the kids who already damaged their hearing beyond repair at such an early age...
