- In this video, I show you how to connect a monitor to a computer with a VGA cable. This is one of the basic connections that has to be made when setting up a desktop computer. It all comes down to 2 simple wires: an electrical power cord, and a VGA cord. Make sure to turn the pins on the VGA cable to prevent it from falling out of place.

@@Arrahss yeah what it was was that my power supply wasn’t powerful enough so I had to get a new one and i haven’t had any trouble

Just in case this isn't sorted out (and in non technical language.) Your old computer used to have a place where the monitor directly screwed into the back of the PC. Newer PC's don't require that. You need an adapter. Screw in the monitor's old plug into the adapter. There will be a place to simply plug in the other other end into the back of the PC. That's it.

My computer dosnet have a place to plug in the VGA... Dose that mean I have to order a different cable that would fit? This is very annoying. The PC should come with all the needed pieces to use the actuall thing.

For those who still have this problem and keeps on trying different things. I suggest to plug the cable to the videocard. Maybe get a adaptor if needed. This is worth a try because most of the time you cant connect a monitor to the motherboard if you already have a videocard. It needs to be connected to the videocard. I hope this helps. This method works for me, just spreading what i have learned.

Green is serial and used to be used for many devices but it's obselete nowadays. Pink is Parallel and used to be used with printers. Both are superseded by USB though

Will VGA wire work for 144hz monitor?
No you will need a vga to hdmi adapter
Only at 60-75Hz. For full 144Hz please use DP or for older models DVI. Never use an adapter like HDMI to VGA. It will stop 144Hz from working. The connection must be without adapters/converters.

I have 2 different computers, one running windows VISTA, other Running windows 10. I attached them both via VGA to their monitors without any luck. Back in the day when VGA was more common, if it was the only port plugged in, the cpu would detect and activate when plugged in. Anyone have an idea on how to start a cpu and activate the vga port ON STARTUP???

COM port. In past it was used to connect external devices like mouse (before PS/2 appeared) or modem (thing that allowed Internet or fax use via landline).
A lot of schools have these computers. My elementary school (Heard-Mixon) has (or had) these.

Squirt Steez you need to get a vga cable , hdmi cable, and a dvi cable( the dvi cable is the cable that will put the video display on your monitor). Also to buy these cables, go to Best Buy :) went there today to buy all the cables I needed

I've plugged VGA cable from motherboard to monitor, but its not working at all. My monitor is off with orange light in the corner. I suppose it has to be an old kind of computer with integrated graphic to make it run.
If your computer has a graphics card and integrated graphics, its possible that the integrated graphics is disabled. Some systems will do this if you have a dedicated graphics card installed. Some may let you re enable it and others won't.

I am confused by the male/female description of VGA connectors. As far as I can find out the female is the one with 15 holes, and the male is the one with 15 pins - sounds reasonable until you come to join male to female connectors. The female connector slides INTO the male connector - shown very clearly when plugging the cable into the computer!!
