      Instead of talking about these ungrateful minimum wage workers who want to be paid $20 per hour, let share some bright and emotional good news:
      There are now more billionaires than ever: 2,781 in all, 141 more than last year and 26 more than the record set in 2021. They’re richer than ever, worth $14.2 trillion in aggregate, up by $2 trillion from 2023 and $1.1 trillion above the previous record, also set in 2021. Two-thirds of the list’s members are worth more than a year ago; only one fourth are poorer.

    • @AbsentMinded619
      @AbsentMinded619 2 месяца назад

      They’re always scheming for new revenue sources. That’s the wildest thing about California; our leaders have this weird predatory relationship with the voters. It’s all about fooling and outsmarting them. Look at all the ways we tax the poor: massive state lotteries, the plastic bag “ban” (shoppers now pay for the bags at 3-10 times the bag cost,) cigarette and gas taxes, the most goes on. For the middle class who try to save and invest a little it’s even worse.

    • @johnnym8717
      @johnnym8717 2 месяца назад

      Yeah it's like a snake eating it's take. No one can afford the price increases we caused so we have to raise the wage to match the consumer prices. Then the retailers have to raise the price to afford the new wages and so forth and so on.

    -Every competing entry-level job (security guards, hotels, etc.) will also be impacted as they must now compete with the fast food jobs, so jobs will be lost across the board.
    -Fast food chains can now be much more discriminatory in hiring, leaving the whole class of teens, immigrants, and other entry-level workers with no prospects.
    -Since employers will use every angle they can to survive this (higher prices, fewer locations, automation, etc.) it won’t seem THAT catastrophic, but the general quality of life will decrease in many ways. The politicians will keep on blaming greedy corporations for all of the problems, and as long as people keep buying it, nothing will change.

    Doug is right about fire management. I have lived in Shasta Lake, formerly Project City, Toyon/Summit City, Central Valley, and Pine Gtoove, for 77 years. The forest fires , now called wild fires, in my youth were not as severe as those of today. I believe the logging of those woods that occurred in an abundance during my youth was responsible for less severe forest fires. The environmentalists were responsible for shutting down logging. About four years ago, my family and I had to evacuate from our home twice. This never happened in my youth. We now have terms such as fire torados to describe forrest fires. My house insurance went up steeply. Inflation and paying out of fire insurance claims are responsible for this. The Democratic Party and the RINOS in Congress have no common sense. This country is doomed. Thirty-four trillion dollars and climbing. America's leadership has spent trillion of dollars fighting worthless wars for nothing and getting our service men and women killed or crippled.

All those Russian McDonalds & other fast food restaurants' franchisees just renamed their restaurants and reopened, and Russian chains of successful businesses were born. Maybe all these people who own franchises in large fast food companies should end their partnerships with thier corporations, then re-name their restaurant and run it as a small business. As I understand it, small businesses who do not have a chain of locations are not affected by the $20 wage hike.

    Businesses are not philanthropic enterprises. They are in the business of making a profit. With this new minimum wage law CA essentially shot the golden goose. The closures of Fosters etc is just the first installment on what may turn out to be a plethora of additional closures. I think the most pernicious part of this law was the creation of a commission that will, willy-nilly, increase the minimum ad infinitum on a moments whim. Who, in their right mind, would subject themselves to this when they can go elsewhere and not be subject to the lunacy of Sacramento legislators.

    Couple points to look at also. That Americans budget more for their fast food than to their grocery lists is why owners of these kinds of mini restaurants are profiting. Yes, this food is hot, fast,convenient, and getting more expensive ( it stopped being cheap a long time ago, who are we kidding). Though the customer pays for it many ways over. With money, they can ill afford. A credit card with a balance at the end of the month. With their own health, including family they are regularly bringing this food to. What was once an occasional family treat for dinner has become a food staple. If this new $20 hr. law causes more people to eat healthier at home, make their own coffee in the morning, a breakfast sandwich or burrito, pack a cooler with whatever is in the fridge, head out the door for their day, can ONLY be a good thing. Think of the money saved at the end of the month, at the end of the week, even! Yes, it's unfortunate for these business owners, exempt employees and workers getting let go. Then, think again of the hard shift in a hot, dangerous kitchen where everybody's on top of each other trying to get this food out. Governor Newsome must have heard these stories thousands of times to realize that anyone working in these conditions is worth this new law. Let the average person experience what's it like in this kind of environment for one day, and that person would totally understand what this is really all about.

Some 18 year old kid with zero work experience starting at $20 is insane. How much do they have to pay an experienced employee or a shift manager? $30/hr and $40/hr? Food will get so expensive that people won't eat out and restaurants will close. Already starting to see that happen with rapid minimum wage increases since 2013. It's a doom loop.

    According to Open Door, an assistant manager at McDonalds receives a starting wage of $19 per hour. So the question is: IF the person cleaning the bathrooms & floors, & emptying the trash cans now gets $20 per hour, the how much should the assistant manager who is responsible to open & close the store, plus be responsible for all other employees earn? We need free markets to be free, and pay fairly based on the value of the industry and job performance. Let entry level jobs provide exactly what they are intended, to provide a 1st job for young people, or a extra job for those who need it. Young people will learn how to work, and can seek a better and more high paying position as they become trained and educated. Otherwise, just watch how fast business owners decide to pull the plug and move out of the socialist republic of California to continue their businesses in the United States, which many are now planning on doing!...

    A minimum wage is necessary since business has a history of pay abuse before workers and government forced certain standards on them. These same companies still treat workers in countries without these laws as workers were treated in factories in the 1800's.
