It is well known that during the battle of Stalingrad a breakout was not allowed. However, despite this a battalion of auxilliary police was permitted to break out. That being the 7th Lithuanian Auxilliary Police Battalion led by Jonas Semaška. They successfully managed to break out, albeit with heavy casualties, out of the 700 soldiers in the unit only 400 survived. 23 of its soldiers, including Semaška, were awarded the iron cross for the breakout.

Here is a historical ww2 fact most people don't know about: No. 303 Squadron during Battle of Britain and as a whole was the most effective Polish RAF squadron during the Second World War. Some sources state that its pilots were invited to the London Victory Parade of 1946, The Daily Telegraph says that it was the only representative of the Polish Armed Forces in the West. The invitation was refused because no other Polish units were invited. However, according to other sources No. 303 Squadron was not invited and so could not have refused the invitation. After the end of the war, squadron morale decreased due to the treatment of Poland by the Allies (Western betrayal of Poland), and the squadron was eventually disbanded in December 1946. After the war, they were honoured by the erection of the Polish War Memorial in West London, listing the names of all Polish pilots who served in the RAF. The famous german middle class tank “Panther” was not the best all round tank of the German army in WW2. In fact it had from the beginning of its production (1943) till the end of war several problems regarding its engine, transmission etc. Just to name one example. When Operation Citadel was about to begin in summer 1943 und the first Panthers were transported to the frontlines, just when they were leaving the trains several Panthers burned down because of massive engine problems. This and many other problems continued to occur till the end of war according to many Wehrmacht Front reports. The actual workhorse of the Wehrmacht was the Panzer IV. As we all know, the battle of Stalingrad is one of the most bloody conflicts of not only the war, but all of human history. In fact, it was so bloody that it took the Germans more manpower to take a single house (Pavels House) than it took for the battle of Paris in 1944. Adding onto the horrific factor of Stalingrad, while the battle was going on, deep inside Stalingrad there was a factory that was pumping out T34s, during combat. But most story has a cherry on top, this one being that despite being enemies, both sides let their counterpart go for water in the night. Here's a lesser known historical fact, The 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS, popularly known as the Handschar division is the only known Waffen SS division to have had an open mutiny in its ranks. On the night of 16/17 September 1943, while the 13th SS Division was training in Villefranche de Rouergue in France, a group of pro-Partisan soldiers led by Muslim and Catholic junior officers staged a mutiny within the Pioneer battalion. They captured most of the German personnel and executed five German officers, including battalion commander Oskar Kirchbaum. Apparently, the mutineers believed that many of the enlisted men would join them and they could reach the Western Allies. The revolt was put down with the assistance of the unit imam and unit physician they told the enlisted men of 1st and 2nd Company that they were being deceived, released the German NCOs and rallied the company to hunt down the ringleaders. When Villefranche de Rouergue was liberated in 1944, the local population decided to pay tribute to the mutineers by naming one of its streets Avenue des Croates and commemorating "the revolt of the Croats" every 17 September.
