Home to the richest tin mines in the world, Kinta Valley was once a prosperous region dubbed as the “Pioneer of Malaysia’s Modern Development”. Key to its prosperity was a railway branch that was almost entirely forgotten after the collapse of the tin industry in the 1980s.
Tracing the lost tracks of the FMSR Ipoh - Tronoh branch line, we pass through abandoned sites, dilapidated towns, and tin mining lakes, following locals from all walks of life through its 6 stations to connect the dots of a neglected past, and figure out what the future holds.
The project is still ongoing, if you have any related information or old photos, do please reach out to us!

Deeply touched by the gigantic efforts in producing the short film to rekindle the actual story along the railway track reminising the rich history of Ipoh township.
The trip organised by the college to enable students on an educational journey to know the truth is most profound and of paramount importance. We depend much of a bearing on their successes to carryout such works of immense significance.
Kudos to everyone who made it possible. As an antiquarian like you Lop; it is not about gains but ensuring history continues to live in others by recollecting facts from bygone era.
Thanks Lop for keeping the memories ALIVE in Lahat township_ the journey summarises how we too can live in an environment with different races and cultures thus maintaining our own identity.

BZ (Bravo Zulu, a naval term that means ‘Well done’!. Very much appreciated your efforts in compiling this nostalgic records that whoever are watching it would enjoy recollecting fond memories of good old days. My grandfather and many of his siblings and friends from Guangdong, Fujian or other south China provinces came to Malaya in the early 19th century to “wern sik” (looked for means of survival). I believe many of us watching this very interestingly compiled video would have stories to tell of add on. I salute you and all those of you who have contributed to production of this video for sharing them for our viewing. 🫡🫡🫡🙏🙏🙏

It took a lot of time and effort, but we’re happy that it is being received well.
We’re hoping to bring it to more schools, so the next generation of Ipoh residents can see their hometown in a new light 🤗

After the documentary we found a report from a Scottish magazine, stating it was the busiest passenger line in all of Malaya in 1939 🚂🛤️

FYI, this section of the railway line from Ipoh to Tronoh was dismantled by the Japanese in 1942-45 for the Burma-Thailand Railway Project.

    - - NGLEMBU 8 AM 28 NOV 32 - - S - -
A 90 over year old letter with partial Menglembu postal chop visible sent from SongKou village in China, & addressed to (c/o) Menglembu Railway station, Ipoh, Perak. The Ipoh - Tronoh Railway seems also to serve as an important postal route to the mining hinterland in the Kinta valley. There are letters with a 3:45PM IPOH postal stamp & an 8 AM MENGLEMBU postal stamp the next day. The old Ipoh post office and the Menglembu post office which is still in use, are located not far from the railway stations.

" Mr. Ram started schooling in the Ipoh A.C.S. from 1921. He used to come by train from Pusing which was on the former famous Tronoh Branch Railway Line dismantled by the Japanese and taken to Thailand during the Japanese Occupation ..." excerpt from " Mr Teerath Ram "Model Principal" and" Master Builder", The Voyager, 1974 Ipoh ACS school magazine.
