  • www.quilterlabs... Clean sounds are at the end of the video. I focused mainly on distorted, overdriven tones on this review, because it seems there are tons of demos of the clean tones...but this thing really kicks in the dirt mcgirt as well...very reminiscent of cranked Fender amp style overdrive, a'la Super Reverb scented crunch and sizzle. The amp get's AMAZING clean tones, and is louder than a pair of twin reverbs...but I wanted to showcase different combinations of eq and amp flavor style, to give you an idea of the crunchier side of the rainbow on this thing. I've really been enjoying the Quilter amps....suprisingly organic feel and tone, and is lightweight, and fits in your pocket...well, it's lightweight anyway!
    I used my www.mjtagedfini... MJT relic strat, rocked with www.nicksilverp... Nick Silver Pickups , and one tasty white coiled www.thedivineno... Divine Noise Cable of boom. YEP!

    Hate it when people say things sound like crap and their only experience with the amp is watch a youtube video on it. Played this and a couple other quilters at a local guitar shop, im a believer. And thats coming from a vox ac15 guy. These amps really are stellar and extremely versatile when you actually PLAY them or listen to them outside of youtubes shitty compressed audio.

      If you dial it in, I bet you can get pretty close to the ac15 sound. Theres so many unique sounds that you can get out of this amp is amazing.

    People need to play this amp in person, with their guitar, and with their own hands. Its a GREAT amp and anyone who says it sounds bad hasn't actually tried in person. It blows away all the other solid states and I'd reckon it sounds and feels better to play through than many of the tube amp at the price point without any of the downsides and weight. You gotta spend a couple weeks with it and learn how to use all the knobs.. it really opens up. I sold ALL my other tube amps after I got this and the only tube amp I kept was my Mesa Mark 5:35 just because its too good to get rid of. But regardless the Quilter does the job of so many of the original tube amps extremely well and is EASILY worth the $1000.

    I got one of these. I thought it was ok, great clean sounds and nifty distortion, but I'd still keep my tube amps and then I found a setting that is not in this demo. It changed my view. The owners manual ties the limiter to the boost. That is true but it really works through gain 1. Set both gain 1 and the limiter to 10 and you will see what I mean. That is where the squish is. I could now play any gig with just this amp and a guitar. Who wants to buy some of my big heavy tube amps? lol

      I’ve placed all but one of my tube amps on the auction block! Fender ‘the Twin’, Mesa boogie Mark III red stripe, and fender Deville 2/12. Kept the Mesa Lonestar combo. These little amps are plain and simple: BEASTS! At 26 lbs. my 63 year old body loves them so much I bought 2.
      Tone block 2, + block dock 12, and a MicroPro Mach 2/12. Both are 200 watts of heaven (in the right hands of course) I play jazz, fusion and R & B. Not much of a rocker, but that ‘growl’ is there when you reach down for it!

    I’m a Quilter fanboy, mainly from hearing it in a couple live performances. Where the Micropro Mach 2 shines is in dynamics. Hit the strings hard, and volume and distortion increases. Coddle the strings and the sound becomes soft and clean. Same goes for twiddling the volume knob.

    Can you go from clean to dirty and boost both from the foot switch? I play live in a band and need to have a super clean and sparkling tone one minute but then I need the crunch and also need to boost and play lead guitar but I cannot be turning around and mess with the knobs. It looks like a two channel amp but one of the channels looks like its set up for a microphone.

    • @GregoryGuay
      @GregoryGuay 2 года назад

      It’s been five years, did you figure this out yet lol? If I understand correctly, you can go from channel one, to the clean channel 2 which is more for acoustic, but you cannot use the footpedal to change the “Voice“. This is extremely unfortunate! Almost crazy! So I guess you have to adjust the gain and use the boost section to go from a little dirty to very dirty

    Love the cleans on this amp - I dare say they beat my old 68 deluxe (modded, which may explain things). What I'm missing is the magic that happens when I combine the compression of a tube amp with fuzz and/or overdrive. Perhaps I could get this with a tube preamp pedal? I also found that using either the channel or boost for leads was...challenging. So was eqing for different guitars - very challenging to stand out in the mix without overwhelming (reminded me of a mesa for this reason).

      Michael Fenton I've heard that the clean channel is a tone block minus the master volume. I have a Mach 2 8" and it seems the same. Also, the 8 would keep up with a drummer I'm guessing the HD 12 would keep up with two.

IT SOUNDS FANTASTIC, and it's capable of getting loud as fuck when needed. It easily keeps up with our drummer and he can be a basher when we play Fusion metal driven tunes.
